Before we started our filming, we had to thinkabout which other movies fit the same genrewe are trying to portray and I picked threemovies I wanted to analyse which were; Phonebooth, American Gangster and Lucky numberSlevin and also I ended up analysing Firewalland Face Off aswell.

The reason why I chose Phone booth was

because of the tension produced was what wewanted to use and we wanted to challenge andmake the tension in our film a lot moremenacing. We tried to do this by making themusic more repetitive. At first we were a bitreluctant to do it but in the end it sort of fit intothe genre.

The ideas we got from American gangster wereabout the grittiness and the lighting of the filmat different occasions.

Most of our ideas came from Firewall and oneof the big factors was the credits. We took thegreen writing idea from it but in the actualmovie there is a non-diegetic sound of thecredits being typed but in ours we made thecredits slowly cross each other.

In Face Off we liked the opening when thesniper was slowly stalking John Travoltawithout him knowing just like what we did in our

    film opening.back

To fit the conventions of a thriller we

had to think about what actually makes

    a thriller.

At first our film looked a bit too light for

a thriller so we darkened some of thefilming to make it more gritty to look at.

Near the end of the film we wanted to

make an effect were a picture comes

up of a sniper scope comes up just

before hes shot but you could tell that

it was computerized which we thought

maybe we should just leave it and find

a way to notify the audience that a

    killing is about to happen.

In our film we show a young

    black male being shot and

    this to me represents the

    black community as being

    quite targeted and

    endangered.

    Exploring possible outcomes, I

    think that maybe the young

man is not the victim and

    could have been the villain

and the film could have beenworking backwards to why

he got shot, this could be

    representing a good ending

for someone else or a victory

    etc.

If our film were to be distributed,it would most likely bedistributed by MetrodomeFilms, because we would notexpect it to be noticed by big

distributors like UniversalVivendi and Twentiethcentury Fox and so on. If wehad more and betterequipment to use in our filmsI think that our film wouldhave more varied selection

to distributors. For example, Shifty is also

distributed by Metrodomeand I think that if they werenot found by Metrodome.

As a team we did not really have aspecific target audience to aim atbecause we felt that it directed to alot of people because there was notmuch you could point out and saythat this is directed at this group of

people, and this at this group ofpeople etc.

I think that normal teenagers wouldenjoy this because it has that feel ofindependence which kids like tohave and in the movie it shows theactor as being quite relaxed and then

the surprise of being shot is whatappeals to them the most becauseas a teen I know that we like to bethrilled and to be knocked on theedge of our seats and thats what weattempted to do with our film.

I think that it was more to the peoplefrom 12-30 because you have to thinkabout all the different things that mightattract or make the audience not watch it.

I think that the elderly viewers would notwatch it because of the music and how itwould most likely hurt their ears notbecause its bad but because of thevolume and the pitch and mostimportantly the repetition of it. People

younger can withstand it more becausetheir ears can adjust better.

A lot of the technology we used with our

video is quite high tech and one of the ones

I used to make the music was Logic. I

thought that it was really good how you can

merge sound and action without having too

much fuss. However it did take us a while

to get the music on to the editing machine

because I had to convert it to mp3 and it

ended up deleting a part of the music but

still turned out ok. Next page

    I learnt that this

    technology has been

    progressing and more

    people buy different jvc

    products now likeearphones etc.

With the researched I've had lhave learnt that with these

cameras, you wont have to do too

much editing because it helps youbut the editing would have to be

better quality. I also learnt the

    difference with the zoom because

some of the school ones can be

static and with the newer cameras

they are more loose and relaxedwhich produces better quality.

I have learnt a lot about the editing machines in the past 4 to 5months.

Ive learnt how to do slow motions and when the right time is to dothem. One of the hard things about machinery like this is that ifyou mess up once then you have to go through a long process toget it back.

When I was editing one part of the film, It didnt go with what I hadplanned and as a result I ended up having to move all of thefootage and render it again until it got back to the way it was.

The first bits of editing can seem all right until you get further into

your task that you realize the difficulty put into the editingmachinery.

One of the problems we had with the editing was the music, wethought that it would be a lot easier to get the music in but incertainly took a lot longer than planned.

4 to 5 months ago, we did a preliminary

task of having to film someone walking

through a door. We had to demonstrate

    continuity editing meaning that we

weren't aloud to make any changes to

it or edit it in any way.

Before I used to not know a lot about the

camera shots and I used to be very

distracted and then I learnt a lot on this to

do with sort of camera shots you need for

a thriller and now I am getting really good

at pointing out shots and makingjudgements on shot types came in handy

    for our video.

One of the main types of editing that I

learnt that most editors use for thrillers

was continuity editing. We researched it

and before when we used to dopreliminaries I would have never really

thought of doing continuity but after

learning more on the editing techniques it

worked out well for me.I have learnt a whole lot about the

filming in the past months and I think I

could do this in the long run if I were to

have more equipment and more money. home
