  • SPOT 1

On the Belgum - Bagalkot Road, near Karadiguddi.

The hill along the roadside, exposes a conglomerate bed with intercalations of sandstone. The road is at an approximate elevation of 820m and the maximum height of the hill is around 900m high. The grain size of the quartz pebble clasts increase from 2 2.5cm, at the road level, to 0.3 1.2cm, around 10 15m up from the road level.

The conglomerate consists mainly of ellipsoidal milky quartz and smoky quartz pebbles along with few colourless quartz pebbles and jasper clasts, embedded in a silicic ferruginous, reddish pink matrix. This beds are intercalated with sandstone beds/lenses.

The quartz pebbles are sub-parallel to each other, resulting in an imbricated texture, hence defining a plane of foliation. The structural readings of this plane are given bellow.

These conglomerates belong to the Nisargi Conglomerate.

  • SPOT 2

    Around Ramthal locality

At the base of the hill there were large ex-situ cobbles/pebbles (couple of cm to 24 cm) of BIF, sandstone, quartzite, and conglomerate. As we climbed up from the base of the hill, around 5m vertically up, we saw calcareous clayey material in the soil. As we another 2-3m up, we found BIF (BHQ and BHJ). The structural data of this rock bodies are given bellow.

As we moved couple of meters to the left, we encountered finely laminated slates. Their Structural data is given below.
