Dear Parents

JUNIOR COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE

Alexander Gloor has been invited by the Executive Committee of the Junior CityCouncil of Cape Town to attend the National Conference of the National JuniorCouncils Association of Zimbabwe Conference, which will be held at the Victoria

Falls in August.

The objectives of the conference are to allow active participation of junior localgovernment leaders, to exchange ideas on the challenges facing the youth, toreinforce newly-established communication links and to create a leading role indevelopmental work of the betterment of their societies, whilst at the sametime harnessing life skills.

Congratulations to Alexander and we wish him well for the upcoming NationalConference.

CHARITY DRIVE

Last week we soldyellow ribbons insupport of TEARS (TheEmma Animal RescueSociety) and collectedR3 518.00. Thank youto everyone whosupported this drive.

GYMNASTICS

On Saturday 2 August 2014,Daniel Smith (U14) won asilver medal in gymnastics atthe District Trials. He will berepresenting the Cape TownDistrict at the Cape Zonalslater this year too.Congratulations to this younglad.

COMMUNITY SERVICE

This coming Sunday 10 July, from 9am until 3pm, we will be going to TEARS in Kommetjie to do all types of odd jobsthat the staff never get time to do. All boys are welcome to join, and parents are urged to encourage their sons to

join. It is always a very enjoyable day.

On Sunday 17 July we will be going to the Alexandra Hospital for mentally-challenged patients. It is their annualOne-To –One and is always a very humbling, but enriching, experience.

WORLD SCHOOLS DEBATING CHAMPIONSHIPS

Steven Lochner represented South Africa ’s Junior Debating Team in the WorldSchools Debating Championships in Thailand. He was personally positionedsecond overall for his contribution and the South African Junior team wentthrough to the final, defeating even the South African Senior Debaters. Theynarrowly lost to Malaysia in the final, placing them second overall in thecontest.

Congratulations to Steven on this fantastic achievement.

CHORAL FESTIVAL

Congratulations to the 61 choristers, the musicians in the orchestra, the staff and theMusic Department for their role in this highly successful production of Carmina Burana(in collaboration with Rustenberg Girls’ High School and Rondebosch Boys’ High School ).

First Hockey Team at the International Brothers Tournament at Hartleyvale.

SPORT THIS WEEKEND

Bishops host our rugby and hockeyteams this Saturday. The First Rugbyteam play at 11:30am on Saturdayand the First Hockey team on Fridayat 7pm. We look forward to muchpositive parental support onSaturday, as usual.

I wish all moms and female staff a happy Women ’s Day on Saturday 9 August 2014.
