IN REMEMBRANCE

Lyle B Morrison CLU (1926-2016)

We extend our deepest sympathy to the family,

friends and business associates of Lyle Morrison who

was a faithful member of our Association for over 50 years. He was

our first President in 1960-64 and received our coveted Distin-

guished Service Award in 1980 and the state Marvin E Muilenberg

DSA in 2004. He was a leader in our industry—a Life Member of

the MDRT. He will be missed by our Association, his hundreds of

clients, and the community, but the memory of his professionalism,

integrity, leadership and faithfulness will long be remembered.

President’s Message

From Scott Embree

Happy 2017!

We have a big year ahead of us, with lots to accomplish. Starting in February, our luncheon will feature a

speaker giving us an economic update and ideas on how we can put our clients in better positions moving

forward.

At the end of February, we have our “Day on the Hill”. We will spend an entire day in Lansing, MI having

face to face conversations with our lawmakers on both sides of the aisle. This is the one day of the year I

believe that our NAIFA members have the biggest impact. It is days like this that NAIFA steps up to the

plate.

In March, we will carry on our tradition of having the NAIFA National President come speak at our monthly

meeting. Paul Dougherty, whom I had the pleasure to meet at our National Conference in 2016 is a State

Farm agent in Hyattsville, Maryland and has been in our industry for 23 years. He shares our level of pas-

sion for the industry as well as his seat as National President.

In April, we will be running another joint meeting with the Society of Financial Professionals. At his meeting

we will present our Distinguished Service Award.

In May, we will not be holding any meetings because we have our State Convention. I hope to see you all

there!

In June, we will have our Annual Meeting along with our Staff Appreciation Luncheon.

All along the way we will have our Feeding America Food trucks sprinkled through the months allowing you

to donate some of your time and help feed the hungry in our communities. We also offer the availability to

donate some of your treasure to this cause. $500 supplies one truck. Thank you to Mark Keating of Mass

Mutual Mid-Michigan for supplying the match donation up to $3,000!

Our membership continues to grow as new people enter the industry and seasoned professionals see the

dangers on the horizon and feel they need to step up to the plate. If you come across anybody that you

think should be a part of NAIFA, please pass their name and information out to us, and we will be sure to

get them connected.

Thank you to all of you for everything that you do in our West

Michigan community.

Scott Embree NAIFA – West Michigan President

our advocacy efforts at work. This is an experience which is worthy of every NAIFA

member. The first 500 who register are eligible for a $300 stipend to help with transpor-

tation and/or lodging. There still are reimbursement funds available. In the past 3 years,

over 2,500 NAIFA members have gone to Washington to meet with lawmakers and advise

them on how their decisions affect agents and their clients. Join that group this year—go
