1 Vol. 19, No. 67 July 2019 Ferndale Chapter No. 23 June flew by! Even with record-breaking heat on the night of our June meeting, we powered through and hosted an amazing Official Visit for our Deputy Grand Matron, Shari Howe. At the “All about ME” reception honoring PattiCady, we heard about her travels to Grand Chapter of Maine as a Grand Representative. She shared about the differences and simi- larities of Eastern Star in Maine and talked of her visits to scenic areas of “The Pine Tree State.” The Port Pal Palooza hosted by Worthy Matron, Deanna Bay was productive and fun. We added to a growing supply of tiny cushions made by our members. The little pillows attach to seatbelts in or- der to alleviate discomfort cancer patients may feel from a seatbelt resting on an implanted port. July brings cheerful times of red, white and blue. We look forward to parades, picnics, barbecues and fireworks. On the 4th of July, we will participate in the Indepen- dence Day parade in Ferndale. We would love to have as many as possible join us on the Masonic Family float. We are invited by Ferndale Lodge to enjoy coffee and donuts beginning at 9:30am. The Ferndale Volunteer Fire Depart- ment will be giving rides to community members around town from 10am to noon. The parade will begin at noon. We are asked to be ready to get on the Masonic Family float by 11:30am. Our July 10 meeting is our traditional Friendship Night. As the theme for the evening is “Summer Picnic”, the attire will be summer casual and pants are allowed (yay!). We in- vite members of all chapters to come for delicious refresh- ments at 6:15pm and the meeting will begin at 7:30pm. Happy Birthday wishes are extended to: Paul Wright, July 5; Laurelei Wilson,July 6; Jeannine Galatioto, July 8; Deanna Bay, July 18; Jan Moore, July 21; Linde Ballentine, July 22; Larry Nicholson, July 26; Terry Buchanan, July 27; Donna Meng, July 28; and on July 31, MaryLou Goodwin, Tricia Coombs, and Elizabeth Wright. SAVETHE DATE! Ferndale will be hosting a Community Forum about Paws for Purple Hearts on August 11 at 1pm at theVeteran’s Memorial Hall in Ferndale. We are honored to be able to have Mike Hogan, the Chief Advancement Of- ficer for Paws for Purple Hearts, give a presentation about this philanthropic organization. Light refreshments will be provided for attendees. Come with an open mind and ready to learn! With hugs and love, Deanna Bay, Worthy Matron Kirby Bay, Worthy Patron Scottish Rite Valley of Northern California Brethren , Notes from the Scottish Rite Valley of Northern California, within the Orient of California located in the town of Fortuna in the State of California. All is well and we are ramping up for the Fortuna Rodeo Parade which is on Saturday, July 20. Although our Scottish Rite Valley is not taking part as an entity in the fes- tivities, our individual members will be participating in the parade as Shrine Clowns, Knights Templar and Blue Lodge Masons. All are welcome as the town of Fortuna puts on a great show. There will be no Stated Meeting in July due to the Fortuna Rodeo Festivities that week. We will resume our Monthly Stated Meetings on August 15 at our new meeting time of 7pm. This is strictly a business meeting with no din- ner. Our Stated Meeting in September will be on the 19th and will include dinner and our Annual Feast of Tishri. Our October Stated Meeting is on the 17th and features our Annual “Mason of theYear“ Award Ceremony and dinner. More information to follow on these last two events. Thanks and see you all at the Fortuna Rodeo, George Durfee, Venerable Master
