evolutionInstructor: Gonzalo AlonsoCourse: Arch 2020 Radical Domesticities for the 21st CenturyEvolution proposes a space with three main characteristics, green areas and gardens in response to the scarce green spaces within the urban sur-roundings, the city as a whole, and the rigid orthogonal form of the city’s structures and buildings, an iconographic call to the underwhelming skyline of Charlottesville, and a blending of public and private spaces. In a sense, it is not only portaying the evolution and gradual increase and manifestation from public to private spaces, but also the evolution of the typography and architectural promenade of Charlottesville itself.

Flex TowerInstructor: Ines MartinezCourse: Arch 2010 Foundation Studio IITaking inspiration from the Sky Village in Copenhagen, I wanted to in-tegrate a sense of flexibility and modularity within the municipality of Charlottesville, not only symbolizing the culmination of built structure and nature, as if the green areas were enveloping the vertical beams creating a vertical forest of sorts, but also, and more importantly, functioning to transmit the message of versatility and mixed used within a hybrid building.

‘Dancing House’ Precedent StudyInstructor: Earl MarkCourse: Arch 2710 CAAD 3D Digital Visualization and ModelingUtilizing the main softwares of Rhino 6 and Grasshopper, the assign-ment was to recreate the formal and structural elements within a building of the student’s choice. In order to challenge myself and push the limits, I decided to choose the infamously complex, undulating, intricate and even controversial building by Frank Gehry, Dancing House, in Prague, Czech Republic.

Lambeth Apartments Tectonic Study (On Grounds Ecology)

For my field investigation within the context of the UVA grounds, I really wanted to explore and analyze the spatial and anatomical tectonics of my apartment at home. Through asking questions about light and its interaction with the user, I created a sectional diagram conveying the lighting dynamics found within the apartment. Furthermore, I wanted to shed light on the differences between natural and artificial light found withi different parts of the home. As with natural light, it is kinetic, changing, and depends on the certain time of day or location of the sun. Howver, artificial light is not affected at all by the movement of any outisde environmental factofactor, and remains static, unchanging and uniform throughout the day, barely interacting or having a dialgogue with the spatial conditions. On the other hand, for the anatomical tectonic exploration, I showcased an axonometric drawing of the systems of the apartment with relation to the gradual metamorphosis of public vs private space. The systems of shared space within the axonometric diagram evolve as I follow my usual daily path or daily routine around the apartment..

Gabion House Instructor: Kyle SturgeonCourse: Arch 2220 Principles of TectonicsThe intent for the walls of my minimal housign project was to provide an innovative, environmentally friendly and sustainable solution or answer to desert housing, redefining and expanding on the capabilities of what a gabion wall does and what a residential home really mean (through a pre-liminary exploration of my own home at the time, on left).

Rockite Model Light InvestigationsInstructor: Francisco RamosCourse: Arch 3010 Urban Transects: Connective Institutions for the 21st Century

Through an exploration of different light conditions within our Rockite casting/modelmaking workshop, I was able to understand how a space can be defined and transformed through a visual representation of various light forms (ambient, indirect, filtered, visible, direct light, etc), and how voids and negative spaces can be just as important if not more than additice spaces.
