Are you feeling the end of summer ‘blues’ or looking forward to a ‘fantastic fall’?
Where did the summer go? I think everyone gets that feeling during the last week of August a we switch
from one mode to another, whether it is ‘back to school’, ‘back to a fitness class’, ‘back to a regular work
week’.
Here at Community Care our programs certainly did not stop during the summer. Volunteers have been
busy with driving, delivering meals, visiting and phoning isolated people in their homes, and many other
small and large contributions to help our neighbours stay comfortable and independent in their own
homes.
Looking into the fall there is lots of activity continuing and some new programs starting back up. Our
Wellness Programs in Brighton and Trent Hills will be offering a brand new start to different options. Check
out our website at www.commcare.ca to see if any of the fitness classes may interest you. Amongst the
yoga, cardio-fit, aqua fitness is a new program called Dance Free Movement along with many other options.
Community fitness classes and falls prevention classes are also offered in Colborne, Cobourg, Port Hope,
Bewdley, Hastings and Campbellford. Check out the schedule for a free class near you.
And lastly, the fall months are a great time to begin a new volunteer opportunity. Are you interested in
trying out a different type of volunteer skill? Staff at Community Care would be happy to talk to you about
other interests you may have. Or, do you have a friend who may be interested in volunteering? CCN is
always in need of volunteers and we have a wide range of opportunities available to meet the skills and
interests of most people. Please help us spread the word about your experience as a CCN volunteer. You
are our best advertisement!
Happy last week of August. Trish Baird

CCN In the News: CCN Received A Canada Summer Jobs From the Government of Canada
Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) is an initiative of the Summer Work Experience program. It provides wage subsidies to employers to create employment for secondary and post-secondary students. Again this year, Canada Summer Jobs welcomed applications from small businesses, not-for-profit employers, public sector and faith-based organizations so that they could provide quality summer jobs for students aged 15 to 30 years who are full-time students intending to return to their studies in the next school year.
The Government of Canada is committed to offering valuable summer work opportunities for students and to
support communities in taking action on local priorities. These summer work experiences represent important
pathways facilitating future transitions from school to the world of work.
Community Care Northumberland received funding
for 2 students this year. Jen MacDonald (pictured in
centre at the recent Senior’s picnic in Colborne)
worked in our Brighton and Colborne offices as the
East Northumberland Summer Office Assistant and
Cassidy Kack (pictured below with MP Kim Rudd)
worked in the Administration office as the Special
Event Assistant.
Over 241 students were hired throughout the
Northumberland—Peterborough South riding, over $600,000
was committed for the creation of these jobs. This funding
was the largest ever for this riding.
“It was a great summer working at Community Care. My
position as a Special Event Assistant not only helped me develop
new skills but also strengthen the set of skills I already have,”
said Cassidy Kack. “I will take the knowledge I obtained from
working at Community Care and apply it during my post-
secondary studies at George Brown College. It was great working with such a wonderful team!”
Community Care Northumberland appreciates the continuing support of the Canada Summer Jobs program.

Update Brighton Office— Health and Info Fair in Codrington
On Sunday, August 12th, Leiann Peart, Program Coordinator and I set up a booth at the Codrington Farmer’s
Market. What a wonderful day seeing all the many different vendors and yummy samples to choose from.
We set up a Community Care
Northumberland table set up inside the
Codrington Community Centre where all
of the Health/Educational vendors were
placed.
On display were some of our volunteer
pamphlets, menus for our frozen meals,
contact and class information for our free
falls and exercise programs, Hospice
information, and general information
pamphlets. We also had free giveaway
items such as CCN fridge magnets, key
chain flashlights, CCN bus key chain
accessories, and plastic water bottles.
We also met a gentleman that way very interested in donating his time to volunteer with transportation.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to the Codrington Farmers Market and the committee who
organized this year’s Health & Information Fair for having us.
