Fedora Project Overview
The Fedora Project is a partnership of free software community members from around the globe.
The Fedora Project builds open source software communities and produces a Linux distribution called "Fedora."
What is the Fedora Project?
The Fedora Project's mission is to lead the advancement of free and open source software and content as a collaborative community.
Three elements of this mission:
always strives to lead, not follow.
consistently seeks to create, improve, and spread free/libre code and content.
succeeds through shared action on the part of many people throughout our community.
Our Mission
These four foundations are the core values of the Fedora community:
Four Foundations
FreedomWe believe we should use and distribute the software and content we promote to accomplish our mission of advancing free software. We provide free alternatives to proprietary code and content to make Fedora completely free and redistributable for everyone. That way, anyone can use any of our work for their own purposes, without legal hassles, to further spread free software.
FriendsWe believe success comes from a strong community, made of people from around the world, working together. There's a place in Fedora for anyone who supports our values and wants to help. By collaborating with each other openly and transparently, and with a strong, supportive partnership with our sponsors, we can achieve great things.
FeaturesWe believe the hard work of creating new technical features makes free software more powerful, flexible, and useful for millions of people. We don't mind shaking up the status quo, when it means we can more effectively move free software forward. And we do it by collaborating directly with the many software communities whose work is distributed by Fedora. That way everyone benefits, regardless of whether they use Fedora or not.
FirstWe believe in the power of innovation and showing off new work in our releases. Since we release twice a year, you never have to wait long to see the latest and greatest software, while there are other Linux products derived from Fedora you can use for long-term stability. We always keep Fedora moving forward so that you can see the future first.

Fedora is more than just software, though. It is a community of contributors from around the world who work with each other to advance the interests of the free culture movement
Everyone is invited to join and, no matter what your skills are, we have a place for you in our community!
The Fedora community includes software engineers, artists, system administrators, web designers, writers, speakers, and translators
Our Community
Be a center for innovation in free and open source software, and creates a community where contributors of all kinds come together to advance the ecosystem for the benefit of everyone
Contributes everything it builds back to the free and open source world and continues to make advances of significance to the broader community, as evidenced by the regular and rapid incorporation of its features into other Linux distributions.
Our Method
We try to always do the right thing, and provide only free and open source software
We will fight to protect and promote solutions that anyone can use and redistribute
With this in mind, all of our developers are focused on working closely with upstream development teams, so everyone can benefit from our work and get access to our changes as soon as possible

We empower others to pursue their vision of what a free operating system should be
And that's not all. It is just as easy for individuals to create their own distribution, thanks to Fedora's easy remixing tools
We believe software patents are harmful, a hindrance to innovation in software development, and are inconsistent with the values of free and open source software
