The new year is under way and we have
elected a new Board, see the list to your
left. The Board held a meeting on January
21st which will be reported on at the next
meeting on February 13th. One of the
things decided on was that on Sept. 14 and
15 of this year the ACAA will bring their annual art show back to the Sutter Creek
Auditorium. Since this show is now in one location and is no longer a tour through-
out the county, we have dropped the Open Studios name and the logo. More than
20 artists will show their work and many will demonstrate their craft during this
free exhibition. The art show will feature a raffle of fine art from each of the partici-
pating artists and proceeds from the raffle directly benefit the ACAA Scholarship
Fund. An application will be available in March on our website amadorartists.org, at
our monthly meeting, and a link will be in the next newsletter. For any questions
contact Judy Day, Sandra Campbell, or Cynthia Dunn-Selph.
Jeannie Vodden Will Demonstrate at the February Meeting
Back by popular demand, Jeannie Vodden will continue work on the painting she started at our
November meeting. Jeannie’s interest in the variety of textures and patterns found in both natu-
ral and man-made objects is the starting point for most of her paintings. She adds natural light,
sometimes a figure, occasionally a dash of fantasy, and pulls it all together with a limited palette.
She is a popular instructor of watercolor and
has taught workshops throughout California
and in Wyoming and Washington State for
over 20 years. The demonstration will start
after the business meeting on February 13th
and the public is welcome. Visit Jeannie’s web-
site at www.jeannievodden.com

Local Gallery Opening Receptions are on Saturday February 2nd at 2pm
Sutter Creek Gallery, Sutter Creek

Watercolor artist JoAnn Ogburn under-
stands the importance of observation in the
creative process. “Painting has taught me to
really look at things in nature, to see the col-
ors, shapes, values and textures.” She lives on
a sizeable parcel in Pioneer which provides her
with ample opportunities for observing the
landscape. Ogburn will be the featured artist
in February at Sutter Creek Gallery.
Strong colors and contrasts are important to
Ogburn. The play between highlights and
shadows are especially intriguing and are evi-
dent in a number of her works. Inspired by
nature and her surroundings, she paints florals,
animals and landscapes. Along with her paint-
ings, Ogburn produces an extensive line of
cards. She is a member of the Amador Coun-
ty Artists Association and recently joined the
Sutter Creek Gallery. In March she will teach
a class in watercolor card making for Taste of
the Arts, a one-day mini art institute presented
by the Arts Council.
Sutter Creek Gallery invites you to spend
some time with JoAnn Ogburn at her recep-
tion on Saturday, February 2, from 2 to 5 p.m.
The gallery is open daily, except Tuesday, from
10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Expressing Yourself in Watercolor Collage with Lynn Slade
April 5, 6 and 7, 2019 from 9 to 4 each day in the Studio in Pioneer
As artists we usually look at a scene and try to paint what we see, not how we feel about it. This work-
shop is about breaking away from the norm. Explore different ways to approach texture, color and
composition to make a statement about how you feel about what you see. Maybe it’s a change of color
scheme, or perhaps the addition of some unusual textures, portraying the scene from a different angle
or changing it from a realistic scene in into a more abstract one to focus on some particular emotion or
message you want to share with the viewer. Experiment with different approaches and find new ways to stretch your imagination. The
effort can result in a very personal and exciting image. $145 Contact Lynn at [email protected] or for further information call 209- 295-
4667. Class size is limited. Supply lists and additional information are available upon receipt of registration.
