The students are settling into school life well and telling me how they are enjoying it. I am sure there are a few students that are still adjusting to school life so please let us know if we can support you and your children during these early days. There are several supports available as follows: On reflecting on last year, it was clear that making sure students have a good sense of belonging at school is critical, even more so given the bushfires and Covid. We have modified the beginning of the day for class welcome and homeroom. We are using a framework called CREW meaning we are all the crew of this community and no-one is simply a passenger. The idea is that everyone is valued, is welcomed and have a sense of belonging at school. The purpose of CREW is; CREW RE- SULTS in EXCELLENT WELLBEING. This is an aspirational goal that we want for every member of our school and Mr Trevaskis has shared in this newsletter more about crew and the intentional way of getting to know students and building their sense of belonging and connectedness. We are really excited about supporting all students and staff to feel a deep sense of belonging. In addition to this we also have our College Wellbeing Officer, Mrs Sharon Zweck and have a College Chaplain on staff too. See enclosed our Meet the Team for your information on pages 11 to 15. Another area we have refined this year is around uniform and how to support our students with great uniform standards but not to have rules for rules sake. Again, uniform provides a sense of pride in the organisa- tion that we belong to. We want to help our students when they move into the world of work to understand why there are dress codes in soci- ety. We want discussions around uniform to be relational and not puni- tive and therefore, I have provided families with a guide for the fridge to help you navigate uniforms. Monday is formal uniform day for students in Yrs 3 to Yrs 12 (regardless of the subjects). Tuesday to Friday is based on electives for secondary students. Please do not let your child stress about what to wear from Tuesday to Friday. Check the uniform guide and ask them to check with their teacher and all will be fine. Any conversations about uniform will be done through their crew teacher. Mrs Mel Wood will oversee all girls uniforms and Mr Ben Daniel will oversee all boys uniform to help mentor students around wearing their uniform with pride. We are about relationships and helping children feel empowered, supported and cared for. We have our Information night coming up on Wednesday 10th of February 2021. This year we are able to hold an information night how- ever due to Covid we have limited spaces for people to attend and will offer families to connect via Zoom as well. We do have a BBQ being run by P&F at 6pm and 6.30pm so registra- tion for attending the evening will be vital. Families will receive a letter about the evening as we are managing this event carefully to minimise any Covid risk. The main details are: Pre-Kindy to Year 6 Information Session: 5pm start - Option 1: Zoom for the session Option 2: Attend the College Library (max 50 people attend the library) 5.30pm – visit classroom for a look and chat (for those attending the event). 6pm – BBQ outside served by P&F. Secondary Yrs 7-12 6.30pm - BBQ for families attending event 7pm start – Option 1: Zoom for the session from home Option 2: Attend the College Library (max 50 people to attend) 8.30pm finishes If you wish to attend the College for either the Primary and or Secondary event you will need to register by emailing: [email protected]. We are limited to 50 people for each event due to Covid restrictions. If you are unwell please zoom from home or you can’t attend the event then you can click on the zoom link and watch the event from the com- fort of your home. Please see letter coming out via email and Skoolbag. If you attend the event, we ask that you ensure you wash your hands, sanitise your hands, wear a mask if you wish and ensure you keep so- cially distant during the event and evening. Once the event is finished, we ask that you leave as soon as you can. Breakfast club will be starting up from next week and will be open every Wednesday and Friday. The first breakfast club day will be Wednesday 10th of February 2021 at 8.15am. Due to Covid we will be offering ce- real, yogurt and a juice for students to enjoy. I am delighted that Rural Feed is supporting this initiative this year as we were lucky enough to receive a grant. Children need to go to the Moo and Two Café for breakfast and will be required to wash their hands, sanitise and choose their breakfast. The breakfast will operate from 8.15am – 8.55am on Wednesday and Friday. God bless, Tracey Gray Principal

We are crew, not passengers!By Mr Jay TrevaskisThis year we have introduced a new initiative – Crew – across the whole school – PreK to Year 12. In the secondary school it replaces Home room but is far more than just a name change. Crew is about building a sense of belonging and connectedness that stretches beyond merely marking a roll, reading notices or a devotion.Crew began in EL Education schools in the United States in partnership with Outward Bound adventures to create a structure that ‘gives students a safe and reliable home base – the same group of people who circle up everyday at the same time and place.’ Their catch cry “We are crew, not passengers” has been used to develop a sense that everyone in the com-munity is part of the crew working together to achieve goals – social, emotional, academic and sporting. Each crew session has consistent practices such as circling up so that everyone can be seen and heard, a greeting in which every member of the crew is welcomed by name by another member of the crew, a read-ing or activity aimed to challenge thinking about character or to develop

teamwork or problem solving. This Term in crew we are focusing on our school values of Compas-sion, Honesty, Respect, Integrity and Thankfulness. We plan to focus on Service to start Term 2.Crew extends beyond just our student body to include all members of our community. We are all one crew working together to achieve goals associated with academic and character development.

Signing your child in or out of schoolIf your child is late to school or needs to leave early to attend an ap-pointment they should be signed in (or out) at reception by a parent or guardian. Legally are unable to allow students to sign out and leave the school property without a parent’s signature. Thank you for your assist-ance with this matter.

News from Pre-KindyBy Mrs Louise Fish

The weather is certainly changeable and the Pre-Kindies have been lucky enough to be able to get out and enjoy the rain and also the sun. It is wonderful getting to know the new children and seeing my old friends too. All the children have all settled in really well. The children are loving the new little chickens and were so happy to see the baby calves this week. They are taking their responsibility of looking after the chickens and the fish seriously and ask each day whose turn it is to feed the animals.Families, please feel free to suggest any activities that you would like your children to enjoy in class or outside on our wonderful grounds.Pre-Kindies will be experiencing French this year with Year 1, they have sport and music lessons once a week, along with visits to the Library. What lucky kids!

What a lovely class I have, these Kindergarten children are so quickly settling into school routine. Next week we have Parent Information night, please attend if you can as I have handouts to give you and this is an excellent opportunity to answer your questions and concerns. We are so fortunate to have Mrs Travaskis helping us in the classroom each morning this year, two people for our group activities, wow! I am so looking forward to working with you this year. See more photos on page 7.

Great start to Term 1 for Year 1By Mrs Jennifer FriedliWhat a wonderful start to Year 1! We have celebrated Joshua’s Birthday, got to know new friends and welcomed back old friends. We have been learning about compassion, numbers and reading! We are so clever in Year 1.

Team building with Year 7By Mr Tim DowmanOn Monday and Tuesday of this week Year 7 participated in our new Crew Building Days. On Monday they travelled to Mogareeka where they worked together to complete rigorous SES training and challeng-es. Then, already weary from the day before, they completed the 9km Kangarutha Trail walk between Wallagoot and Kianinny. A walk full of beautiful bush, a sparkling ocean and so, so many stairs. A fantastic cou-ple of days in which our new Year 7s overcame many challenges, made new friends and accomplished something they can all be proud of. Well done Year 7! See photos on page 5 and 6.
