CULMINATING PROJECT Every student in Pennsylvania must complete a culminating project. This is an opportunity for students to showcase their abilities and interests through a project of their choosing. Before beginning their project, and under the supervision of a faculty advisor, students must compete a proposal form (found in the Main Office, in the Student Services Center, in the Student Agenda book, and on the webpage) and chart a plan for its completion. Students may not use previous work to satisfy the culminating project requirement. Completion of the project will be recorded on the student’s transcript. To become eligible for Senior Internship, seniors must complete culminating projects by March 9, 2012. Juniors and sophomores should begin planning culminating projects if they have not already done so. Freshmen are encouraged to begin thinking about what they would like to do for their culminating projects. Please note: Second semester courses in the senior year are not eligible for the Culminating project. EXTENDED EXPERIENCE PE

Conestoga students need 8 PE credits in order to graduate. For current sophomores, 3 of those credits must be completed in Conestoga in-school PE courses. Those sophomores who have completed the 3 credits are eligible to participate in Extended Experience PE for the remaining 5 credits, 1 in the second semester of the sophomore year and 2 each in the Junior and Senior years. Current freshmen who complete 2 PE credits this school year will be eligible to complete the remaining 6 PE credits either through class at Conestoga, Extended PE or through team sports, beginning next year. Application forms for Extended PE for the second semester must be submitted in the Main Office by February 3, 2012. The forms include the signature of a parent and of the supervisor at the facility where the student is completing their Extended Experience. Club sports, which include Crew, Rugby, Ice Hockey, Squash and Paddle Tennis, are considered Extended Experience PE and students participating in those sports also need to submit the form. Forms are available on Conestoga’s website or in the Main Office. Students participating in other sports at Conestoga may use their team sport to fulfill the PE requirement. Fall and Spring sports may be used for the appropriate semester requirement and winter sports may be used for either semester. The team sport should be noted on the Course Selection Cards. If the activity is changed after the proposal is submitted the change must be documented. If a student is cut from a team sport, extended time will by offered to apply for EEPE. If the EEPE contract is not followed a “U” will be entered on the transcript as the final grade. Verification forms for Semester II are due in the Main Office on June 1, 2012. These forms confirm that the student has participated in the activity for the required 30 hours, and must also be signed by a parent and the supervisor of the activity.

CPR TRAINING

Students taking Health 1 during the second semester will have one day of hands-on training in CPR for Adults, Children and Infants; use of AEDs, and First Aid on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, March 27, 28 and 29. Students will have had practice sessions and viewed the Red Cross video in Health class prior to the full day sessions. The students are then trained and tested by volunteer Red Cross Instructors who have been certified in classes offered by the Red Cross.

SENIOR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM

Conestoga’s Senior Internship Program provides an opportunity for seniors in good standing to explore a potential career area during the month preceding their graduation. The student, with the help of a faculty advisor and a community sponsor in a business, professional field or community service organization, designs a program of observation or hands on experience in an area of possible career interest. The experience offers the student a chance to explore the chosen field and a valuable opportunity to decide whether it really is a viable career option. In addition, the student gains insights into the responsibilities involved in the world outside of school. Members of the Class of 2012 are working to identify their areas of career interest and will begin contacting potential community sponsors in February. Parents or community members who are interested in sponsoring a student n their field of work should contact Pattie Littlewood, Coordinator of Community and Volunteers Services for the School District at (610) 240-1913 or online at [email protected] for more information.

SPECIAL EDUCATION AND SUPPORT SCREENING Tredyffrin/Easttown School District provides screening and evaluation services to identify resident students who may need special education supports and services. Parents/guardians of students enrolled in District schools may contact their classroom teacher, school counselor or principal to request these services. For students enrolled in non-public schools, please contact the Office of Individualized Student Services at 610 240-1921 to request these services.

SAT BIOLOGY TESTING Students currently taking biology may wish to register for the SAT Subject test in Biology. Students should consult with their biology teachers for assistance in deciding whether to take the test. The test will be offered at Conestoga on Saturday, June 2, 2012. Any student who wishes to take this test should register by May 8, 2012. Registration materials are available in the Student Services Center or online at www.collegeboard.com.

SAT REASONING AND SUBJECT TESTS

It is recommended that juniors take at least one SAT Reasoning Test during their junior year. The SAT Reasoning Test measures the verbal and mathematical abilities that have been developed over many years, both in and out of school. The SAT Reasoning Test differs from the SAT Subject Tests, which measure a student’s attained knowledge. These tests are also offered in the spring. Not all colleges require students to take the SAT Subject Tests. Students should check the requirements of the colleges to which they expect to apply before deciding which, if any, Subject Tests to take. A Subject Test should be taken as soon as possible after completing a course in that subject. Please be advised that Subject Tests are not offered on the March SAT date. Students cannot take both the SAT Reasoning and SAT Subject Tests on the same day. Each test requires a separate registration date. Student may register online a www.collegeboard.com or by mail. Paper registration forms are available in the Student Services Center for students who wish to register by mail. SAT Reasoning and SAT Subject Test registration forms postmarked after the late registration deadlines will be returned. Regular registration and test dates for the spring of 2012 are: Test Test Date Registration Deadline SAT Reasoning March 10 February 10 (Late February 24) SAT Reasoning May 5 April 6 SAT Subject Tests May 5 April 6 SAT Reasoning June 2 May 8 SAT Subject Tests June 2 May 8 Registration information for the Fall 2012 SAT test dates will be included in the April edition of the Junior Class Newsletter.
