Contact Laura Hicks - [email protected] Transportation News If a student wishes to ride the bus of a friend home rather than their own bus, a note from their parent and the friend?s parent is required. Both students then take their notes to the cafeteria during lunch shifts and get approval from the administrator on duty. The bus driver will require an approved note from each student before they let the guest rider board the bus. FHS Replacement Advances : Frederick County Public Schools invites the community to a meeting, on Monday, Feb. 23 at 6:30 pm in the FHS Heritage Room, to learn more about the construction plans for the Frederick High School Replacement Project. FCPS staff and GWWO Architects will present updated site plans, building elevations, and the construction timeline for the project. The Frederick County Board of Education recently approved the construction documents for the Frederick High replacement building at their January 14 meeting. Construction of the new facility is slated to begin in May 2015. Students will remain in the existing school building while the replacement facility is constructed. The new Frederick High facility is scheduled to open for students in August 2017, with demolition of the existing building following the opening of the new school. Families of students within the Frederick High feeder pattern and interested community members are encouraged to attend the meeting to learn more about the upcoming construction phase, view detailed site plans and submit comments and questions. Community members can also take a 3D virtual tour of the new Frederick High facility by watching a video prepared by the architectural firm, GWWO Inc. The video, along with additional information about the FHS Replacement Project, can be viewed online at www.fcps.org/FHSRenovation. If a student wishes to ride the bus of a friend home rather than their own bus a note from their parent and the friends parent is required Both students then take their notes to the cafeteria during lunch shif ts and get approval from the administrator on duty The bus driver will require an approved note from each student before they let the guest rider board the bus

FHS Replacement Advances

Frederick County Public Schools invites the community to a meeting on Monday Feb 23 at 630 pm in the FHS Heritage Room to learn more about the construction plans for the Frederick High School Replacement Project FCPS staff and GWWO Architects will present updated site plans building elevations and the construction timeline for the project

The Frederick County Board of Education recently approved the construction documents for the Frederick High replacement building at their January 14 meeting Construction of the new facility is slated to begin in May 2015 Students will remain in the existing school building while the replacement facil ity is constructed The new Frederick High facility is scheduled to open for students in August 2017 with demolit ion of the existing building following the opening of the new school

Science Fair Update We have had to change the date of our schools Science Fair due to state PARCC testing that will be occurring the f irst week of March Judging for the fair will now take place on March 18th starting at 800am

We understand that the date change may affect your ability to participate as a judge However we are hoping the new date works for you so that our fair will stil l be a huge success Please let me know at your earliest convenience if you can or cannot volunteer for March 18th I have included our original invitation for judges below (with the date changes) and encourage you to share it with your colleagues friends and family members Thank you again in advance for your time

Its that time of year when we begin asking our school community to participate in a great experience at our school You are cordially invited to be a judge at this years West Frederick Middle School Science Fair

We are in need of individuals to volunteer a few hours on the morning of March 18 2015 to judge this years student science fair projects We had a great turn-out last year and expect at least the same this year Our fair will be held and be open to the public on the afternoon of March 18th and the morning of March 19th Judging will take place on the morning of Wednesday March 18th at 800am

We are asking that you sign in in the front office for a visitor ID and then report to the gym where the Fair will take place There you will be given scoring sheets judging instructions and morning refreshments Project judging will last most of the morning but should wrap up around noon

The assessment window for the new Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) assessments begin for Maryland students in grades 3 through 8 in early March 2015 and in April for students enrolled in high school courses The PARCC assessments will replace the MSA assessments in both reading and mathematics in grades 3 through 8 and the HSAs for Algebra I and English 10 Most students will be assessed online this spring These new assessments will provide valuable information about student learning in our FCPS-developed curriculum The assessments will allow school staff to adjust instruction and programming for individual students as appropriate Most importantly the assessments will provide each student with valuable information about their strengths and needs on the road to College andor Career Readiness For more information about these new state assessments or to view tutorials and sample items go to parcconlineorg or contact your childs school

This year is a once in a hundred year event 31415 Events and activit ies will take place throughout the day beginning with a Pi K family and individual fun run beginning at 92653

Special pi planetarium programs (aka P3) will be available throughout the day math activities and exhibits a pi scavenger hunt an Einstein look-alike contest (His birthday was 314) and several other contests will be a part of the festivities
