SACRED HEART PARISH IS SEEKING A DIRECTOR OF MUSIC

Sacred Heart Catholic Church has an opening for a full-time Director of Music. The successful applicant will work as a vital part of the parish staff team to bring the parish vision of ‘Inviting Everyone to Passionately Live the Gospel’ to realization, specifically through the work of sacred music. Tasks include coordinating music to enhance the liturgical services of the parish, including selecting music, playing the organ and piano for liturgies, directing choirs, coordinating cantors and accompanists, and maintaining the pipe organ and piano. A full job description can be found at sacredheartaberdeen.net/employment-opportunities. Interested candidates are asked to send a copy of their resume and an accompanying cover letter to Fr. Mark Lichter, Pastor of Sacred Heart, at [email protected], or by mail to 502 2nd Ave SE Aberdeen, SD 57401.

I recently read an article in “The Priest” magazine authored by Father Guerric DeBona, OSB on the movement from the high feast days of Easter to Ordinary time in the Church calendar. The title is telling, “The Trifecta: A Gateway to (Extra)Ordinary Time.” He states, “The liturgical year offers us a kind of holy door to take us back into Ordinary Time after the Easter season. Opening that great entrance means unlocking the solemnities of Pentecost, the Most Holy Trinity, and the Most Holy Body and Blood of the Lord. In my mind these great occasions share certain scriptur-al and liturgical features that might be nicely deployed for prayer or preaching; taken together they disclose char-acteristics of a passageway into God’s house, a place where the Christian community and its ministerial leaders have been invited to dwell.” This movement is extraordinary as the title states. We are able each week, in the celebration of the Eucharist, to enter God’s house and experience the memorial of the passion, death, and resurrection of the Lord. Today we cel-ebrate the Most Holy Trinity and next week we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of the Lord. These are windows or gates to God’s House and a gateway to Ordinary Time. We are graced as a community to receive these gifts from God and to share them in hospitality with others. Do we really know the gift of these realities and teachings? As we move through the summer reflect on these things. We not only have the “Trifecta”, but we also celebrate this month, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Our name sake, the Sacred Heart of Jesus along with the Immaculate Heart of Mary are gifts to us that move us interiorly. I have been blessed to be at Sacred Heart Parish in Yankton and Aberdeen for 13 years. In case you are counting, 4 years at Sacred Heart in Aberdeen! These feast days are all windows that can open our own hearts to God. Pray for our parish and pray for one another to experience in a deeper way the Heart of Jesus Christ. It is through this encounter that makes all the difference in the world. To know that you are held in the Heart of Jesus and are loved by Him will change your lives. It will also make you realize that a relationship with Jesus Christ is a necessity in an ever changing world. This anchor will give you joy and peace which is beyond this world. Welcome to Extra Ordinary Time! God bless! Fr. Mark
