  • Ryan Lauder originally hails from the small town of Dumfries in South West Scotland. Now living in Derby hes making a stir on the English scene playing up and down the country supporting the likes of Mumford and Sons, First Aid Kit, Mercury Prize nominees I Am Kloot and young troubadour Johnny Flynn. Most recently he was also invited to join Starsailors All The Plans Tour and has just completed dates with American artist Langhorne Slim.

Catching up with Ryan at home I ask what hes up to this very minute? Well Im in my little studio at home recording new material. I want to release two

E.Ps before the winter months descend so Im pretty busy

with that Two E.Ps is a little unusual, whats

driving this double release? Ive got

so much material I wanted to

release two and see what makes it onto an album, they are both still a work in progress, both of which will also be available to buy. What to expect: a blend of old influences with new, from quiet finger picking folk numbers to high energy bluesy jams. His band also consists of Leise Fleet on Cello, Tom Gent on Upright Bass, and Jim Widdop on Pedal.

This summer Ryan tells me that he has also been busy playing at a number of Festivals, including the Y Not Festival, that was really cool and then we also played Bakewell Arts Festival. That was more my cup of tea, a lot of fantastic acoustic acts were there, we really enjoyed it.

More out of the ordinary though hes been talking gigs with the local Vicar. We get on quite well with the Vicar, he comes into Revive Bar and now he wants to bring people in to be part of an acoustic night. Weve arranged something

there for the 14th September. In exchange, Ryan will be holding An Audience with Ryan Launder in his local church. Yes we agree its fashionable to find a Nu Folk musician wandering barefoot, guitar in hand in a church following the footpaths of the likes of Laura Marling and Peggy Sue but anything that brings a community together in such beautifully crafted way gets our thumbs up.

My advice then, if you want to be part of the Ryan Launder experience Id suggest that you come to FD2Ds Magazine launch night in Derby on November 5th at The Shakespeare Pub where a musical feast awaits.
