PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

Amazing Leaders & Performance Congratulations to our senior leaders on hosting the Central Coast Public Education Awards of Appreciation on Tuesday. Rio, Ella, James and Jessie did an outstanding job co-hosting with students from Terrigal High School and Erina Heights Public School. They were great ambassadors for our school and their families. Congratulations also to Josiah on his performance at the award ceremony with his sisters (from Terrigal High School). Josiah’s high quality performance was a highlight of the ceremony. Well done also to Micah for introducing his siblings.

Amazing Public Speakers Congratulations to our public speaking representatives on their performance at last week’s southern regional public speaking finals. Extra congratulations to India for moving onto the Central Coast Final.

Fathers’ Day Breakfast Next Friday 31st August we will recognise the important contribution of dads in the education of

our students. All dads are welcome to come along, with their child(ren), for breakfast from 7.30am – 9.00am. A bacon and egg roll, tea and coffee will be available for a gold coin donation. Dads include fathers, step-fathers, uncles, granddads and anyone else fulfilling that dad role. Dads are encouraged to bring their own clean ‘keep cup’ or purchase a Terrigal keep cup. Dads will be responsible for the super vision of their child until 8.30am.

Fathers’ Day Stall The P & C will hold their Fathers’ Day Stall next Friday also. The stall works on a “donate one, buy one” basis. So please donate a gift to the stall and then your child will be able to purchase a gift on Friday. If you would like your child to purchase two gifts please donate two gifts. Please wrap the gift you donate in clear cellophane. Further information is included in the P & C section of this newsletter.

Zone Athletes Good luck to our Tuggerah Lakes Zone athletes as they compete in the zone carnival tomorrow at Mingara. We are sending a team of about 40 students to compete in events. Thanks to Mrs Haines for her organisation of our team. Robotics Workshop Our Stage 2 students have been involved in a robotics workshop this week.

Reptile Park Our Kindergarten students visited the Australian Reptile Park at Somersby this week to enhance their studies around the needs of living things under the theme “Staying Alive”.

Disco The P & C will also hold a disco for students on Thursday 6th September. Staff will provide supervision, to raise funds for their various projects. K – 2 students attend from 4.30 – 6.00pm 3 – 6 students from 6.30pm – 8.00pm The cost will be $10 dollars and will include entry, popper, bag of chips and a lolly bag.

Some safety reminders: • Only Terrigal Public School students will be allowed into the disco. No pre-schoolers, toddlers, siblings will be

allowed in the hall. • When choosing a snazzy outfit for your child to wear please consider the practicalities, especially for

footwear. High heels, sandals and open toe shoes make it difficult to dance and don’t provide protection for toes amongst several hundred other dancers.

• Parents once you have dropped your child off to the disco I ask that you leave and come back to pick up your child at the right time. This will assist us in keeping your child safe.

• Students will not be allowed to walk home. They must be picked up by an adult or mature sibling. Students will remain in the hall at the end and parents will be asked to come into the hall to collect their child.

• If your child will be picked up by someone else please let your child’s teacher know via the student diary or signed note on the night.

Year 6 Preparation for High School In the next few weeks our Year 6 students commence their preparation for transition to High School. Students will undertake taster lessons at Terrigal High School to experience the high school version of subjects. Thanks to Miss Cooper for her organisation of transition.

Shoelace Lessons Next week Year 1 students will be involved in shoelace tying lessons. Thanks to the Athletes Foot at Erina for their assistance.

Football Our girls’ football team played their 6th round game this week against Avoca Public School. Despite a determined effort the girls went down 2 – 0. Congratulations to the girls on their efforts, to make it through to round 6 of the State PSSA Knockout is a great effort. Thank you to Mrs McCann for coaching the team and to Mr Jenkins for his assistance. Thank you to all of the parents for their support. Cricket The cricket team actually plays next week. PSSA Girls Soccer Knockout. Our girls soccer team played Avoca Beach PS on Wednesday for Round 6 of the knockout competition. The girls have worked so well together and it has been so pleasing to see them have fun and display sportsmanship in all their matches. A big thank you to Tom Jenkins who assisted us at each game, giving us useful tactics to use on the field. Thank you to Lynley Blow for always being available to set up nets when required.

A big congratulations to India from Kindergarten for making it all the way to the Public Speaking Finals. The competition began with 44 schools. 71 kindergarten students were selected for the semi-finals and 12 students made it to the finals. India displayed confidence and enthusiasm while delivering her speech in the finals on Thursday. Great effort, India

Kindergarten 2019

Enrolments are now being taken for students starting Kindergarten in 2019. Enrolment packs can be collected from our school front office.

The dates for our ‘Terrigal Treasures’ orientation program are in Term 4. The sessions run for 4 consecutive Wednesday mornings, 9:15am – 10:45am, from Wednesday 24th October until Wednesday 14th November 2018.
