MASS INTENTIONS FOR OUR SACRED LITURGY THIS WEEK
In the different communities I have been serving as a priest, I hear people asking God for all kind of intentions and we all respond to those intentions: Lord Hear our Prayer. I trust and believe that God hears our prayers when they come with the faith they require. One intention in particular we should ask God everyday is for the end of abortion. That is the sound of a prayer intention here in our community everyday at Mass...for the end of abortion. I know God will answer this prayer-petition and we will see the end of abortion some day. Everyday I check the Priest for life website to see what news they have about Pro-life and read the Pro-Life Reflections for Every Day. I found this prayer for end of abortion and I invite you to pray it with me eve-ryday. FEAST OF FAITH Postures of the Mass
In the Mass, we pray not only with our lips, but with our bodies as well. We stand when the ministers enter. In Western culture, standing is a sign of atten-tion, a mark of respect: all stand when the judge en-ters the courtroom, for example. Standing is also an ancient posture of prayer, mentioned frequently in the Old Testament. When the readings begin, we sit down: a listen-ing posture. Mary sat at Jesus’ feet to listen to his teaching; the crowds sat on the hillside or the sea-shore to hear his words. Kneeling is another posture that is full of meaning. It expresses adoration and worship, but it can also express humility and contri-tion. We bow: a sign of honor and reverence, acknowledging the presence of God, especially when we receive the Eucharist. And there are other ritual gestures as well—striking the breast, genuflecting, and of course making the sign of the cross. TOTAL ALLEGIANCE In previous weeks we have seen how the theme of covenant—as a preparation for the baptismal covenant celebrated at Easter—occupies an im-portant place in our cycle of Lenten readings. The notion of covenant as a relationship between two parties carries with it an expectation of mutual ac-countability and fidelity to the terms of the cove-nant. When God forged the covenant with the Jewish people on Mt. Sinai, it was a pledge of God’s protection, and it would forever permit them familiar access as the Chosen People. For their part, the Jewish people were to observe the dictates of the law, summarized most succinctly here in the form of the Ten Commandments. To be in a cove-nantal relationship with the Lord God requires an exclusive relationship, just as discipleship with Je-sus—ritualized in baptism—demands a total alle-giance to him and none other. ORACION DE MAYORDOMIA ORACIÓN DE SAN IGNACIO DE LOYOLA Toma Señor, y recibe toda mi libertad, mi memoria, mi comprensión y toda mi volun-tad, todo lo que tengo y todo los que poseo. Me lo has dado todo y a ti Señor, se lo devuelvo. Todo es tuyo; haz con él lo que quieras. Dame sólo tu amor y tu gracia; eso es suficiente para mí.
En las diferentes comunidades en las que he estado sirviendo como sacerdote, escucho a la gente pidiendo a Dios todo tipo de intenciones y todos res-pondemos a esas intenciones: Señor escucha nues-tra oración. Confío y creo que Dios escucha nuestras oraciones cuando vienen con la fe que requieren. Y una intención en particular que debemos pedir a Dios todos los días es el fin del aborto. Ese es el sonido de una intención de oración aquí en nuestra comuni-dad todos los días en la misa... por el fin del aborto. Sé que Dios responderá a esta oración y al-gún día veremos el fin del aborto. Todos los días re-viso el sitio de la pagina de internet de Priest for life para ver qué noticias tenían sobre Pro-life y leo las Reflexiones Pro-Vida para Cada Día. Me encontré con esta oración por el fin del aborto y los invito a orarla conmigo todos los días. FIESTA DE LA FE El altar, símbolo de Cristo
Uno de los símbolos visibles al entrar a cual-quier iglesia es el altar mismo. De hecho, en los años posteriores al Concilio Vaticano II, las nue-vas construcciones tenían como centro al altar, y en torno a él, la asamblea. El altar es el símbolo de Cristo, del cordero inmolado; asimismo, es el lugar del sacrificio. A medida que en la Iglesia se fue desarrollan-do la teología eucarística desde la perspectiva del sacrificio, los altares fueron adquiriendo mayor importancia, dejando de ser soportes de madera y pasando a ser un elemento fijo, de una sola pie-dra, pues Cristo es la piedra angular. En razón de esta visión se comenzó a sepultar a los mártires bajo el altar, hasta que se llegó a la pequeña cavidad en la cual se depositaban las re-liquias de los mártires. A partir del siglo XV au-mentaron los símbolos de veneración al altar co-mo símbolo de Cristo: el beso inicial, la incensa-ción, la reverencia e inclusive, la postración el Viernes Santo. LEALTAD TOTAL En semanas anteriores hemos visto cómo el tema de la alianza, en preparación para la alianza bautismal que se celebra en Semana Santa, ocupa un lugar im-portante en nuestro ciclo de lecturas de Cuaresma. La noción de una alianza como una relación entre dos partes lleva consigo la expectativa de la responsabili-dad mutua y la fidelidad a los términos del pacto. Cuando Dios forjó la alianza con el pueblo judío en el monte Sinaí, se trataba de una promesa de la pro-tección de Dios, y que siempre les permitiría el acceso familiar como Pueblo Escogido. Por su parte, el pue-blo judío debería observar los requisitos de la ley, que se resumen aquí en los Diez Mandamientos. Para estar en una relación de pacto con el Señor Dios requiere una relación exclusiva, al igual que ser discípulo de Jesús –que expresamos ritualmente en el Bautismo– exige una total lealtad a Él y a ningún otro.
