1) Seemingly unrelated 2) Controversially linked. Wars. Violence. Extreme differences. 3) What do they have in common? 4) They all have ties to ancient Persia. 5) Specifically, they still have commonality in Persian music. 6) The Persian Empire was a lot larger than today's Iran. 7) In fact, the exact range of Persian influence will never be known because the population was primarily bedouin and herding peoples. 8) Modern Iran is just a small piece of Persia. 9) Persian influence has spread across the globe. 10) There is so much in-fighting within the Middle East, but they all came from the same culture. How can we bring this culture back to the forefront? 11) Arab family (My friend Michiel from Egypt's) 12) My family *THEY ARE SO DIFFERENT BUT SO SIMILAR 13) We have the same oral histories passed down from generation to generation. 14) Oral tradition is a way to know our pasts as we look to the future. 15) The original story-chant went like this... 16) As a child, I learned this... 17) These stories were remembered by putting them to a beat. 18) Eventually instruments were added and chanting turned into song. 19) This lead to the development of the 12-modal system, which is the system still in place today. 20) We must know where we come from to know where we're going.
