Welcome to the Family Winemakers of California’s
1st Tasting at Fairplex!
This tasting is a milestone for Family Winemakers since it’s the first time our signature trade and consumer tasting in being held at Fairplex in Pomona. The recession has changed the way wine is marketed and Fairplex is a reflection of our vintners’ desire to broaden its audience. The tasting is a great source for wines from a diverse group of close to 100 California wineries that are really focused on the Southern California market. Several wineries will be pouring for the first time ever at our event.
FWC is the political and policy voice for small family-owned wineries. We lobbied water issues, fees and taxes, warning labels, farmer’s market tastings and farming regulations this past year at the State Capitol and regulatory agencies. Continuing Pierce’s Disease and Red Blotch research remain at the top of our advocacy list. Consumers enjoy greater choice in California wines across the U.S. because of our advocacy; just ask consumers in Massachusetts. Artistry and passion are the hallmark of FWC wineries at these events and I’m sure you’ll taste it in your glass.

Program KeyNEW identifies wineries that are pouring for the first time at an FWC Tasting.Range is the retail pricing per bottle of the wines being poured at the tasting.
The program was printed several weeks before the tasting and does not include any late cancellations or additions. We hope any inconsistencies between the wineries listed in the program and those at the tasting do not provide an inconvenience.

Family Winemakers. . .fighting for small, family-owned wineries
Small, family-owned wine producers across the state are the foundation of Family Winemakers of California. Formed in 1990 to lobby for the rights of its members to freely produce, market and sell their products, we currently represent over 425 producers.
Direct-to-consumer sales blossomed after the U.S. Supreme Court issued its ruling in Granholm v. Heald. Now consumers in 43 states have a broader choice in wine. . .and it’s because FWC provided key funding and steered the litigation battle.
FWC has worked to keep taxes and fees on wine from rising, created new wine sales opportunities like farmers markets and event permits, stopped vine-killing pests, pushed for smart water rules, fought misguided labeling, and lobbied to keep state alcohol law up-to-date on the use of technology.
Our legislative and regulatory work is augmented by the tastings we organize for our members to help them succeed in a highly competitive marketplace. This is our 25th year hosting events in the state.
FWC’s first tasting was held in 1991 at the Sheraton Palace Hotel in San Francisco. Many of our members pour at our Bay Area tasting, as well as in Southern California. The wineries at these tastings are just as dedicated today as they were in the beginning to producing the finest wines they can. You’ll taste their passion captured in each bottle.
