D a v i d S t i l l m a nFamily, Friends and a Fraternity Chapter Mourn a Loss

Quite literally hundreds of mournersgathered at Kaufmann Funeral Homerecently to pay their final respects tobrother Dave Stillman. As the firstmember of the Zeta Pi Chapter topass, Dave's death has sentShockwaves of grief and realitycoursing through our group.

Dave, a member of our first pledgec l a s s , o n e o f o u r fi r s t S e c o n dCounselors, winner of the highestgrade point award and our onlymember to attend and graduate fromlaw school was skiing in Switzerlandwith his fiance when, on the expertrun, he plunged several hundred feetoff a cliff.

These are the details we've tried tocollect and disseminate to the rest ofthe chapter. But no matter how muchwe preoccupied ourselves with thedetails, none of us could escape thereal issues that were clouding ourm inds :

• Each day brings us one day closerto our last — and while we hope itwill be decades from now — it couldbe tomorrow.

• If our life, or another's life, can betaken from us so unexpectedly — arewe doing everything we can to makethe most of our friendships and ourfamilies? Do we really treat each otherlike tomorrow could be our last?• H o w w o u l d w e w a n t t o b eremembered by the people we caredabout? What impact would we wantour passing to have on their lives?I can't answer these last questions forDave, because I unfortunately neverdiscussed them with him. However, Iwould like to speculate on his reaction.I think Dave would have been pleased to

More than any of this though, I thinkDave would have been pleased tosee how the brothers of the Zeta PiChapter came together to consoleand comfort each other in a time ofcr isis. The meticulous efforts tocontact everyone and keep theminformed; the groups of five and tenbrothers that gathered because theyjust wanted to be together — all oftbis, I think, would have made Daveproud to be a member of such a realand true brotherhood. It has done sofor me.

I miss you Dave.
