Details• North Vietnamese forces under the command of Văn Tiến

Dũng began their final attack on Saigon which was commanded by General Nguyen Van Toan on April 29th, with a heavy artillery bombardment.

• By the next day the North Vietnamese troops had captured the important points in the city and had raised their flag over the presidential palace.

More Details • The city was then renamed to Ho Chi Minh City.• Shortly before the fall, almost all of the American civilian and

military personnel in Saigon, along with tens of thousands of South Vietnamese civilians. This was the largest helicopter evacuation in history, known as Operation Frequent Wind.
