Course Notes cont. Note 22: This is a semester long clinic for 3 credits. Students who have not previously taken a clinic or externship will be given priority in registration over students who have previously enrolled in a clinic or externship. Note 23: Clinic II - only open to students who have completed the basic clinic course in this specialty area. Enrollment is at the discretion of faculty member and is very limited. Variable credits between 1 and 4, as determined by faculty instructor before start of the semester. Note 26: Meets with PAI 730, Section 6 (Central Challenges in National Security). Open to third-year law students who have completed National Security Law and/or Counterterrorism Law. Note 28: 3 hours Fall, 3 hours Spring, must enroll both semesters, will receive grade at end of academic year. Note 35: LAW 630 will be held on Saturday, October 26, 2019 from 8am-5pm and Sunday, October 27, 2019 from 12:00pm-5:00pm in the Bottar Lecture Hall Room 352. Note 36: Will receive P/F grade at end of semester. Must also enroll in two credit graded externship placement seminar class. (2 credits = 8 hours/week work; 3 credits = 12 hours/week work; 12 credits = 35 hours/week work). Instructor permission required for registration and in determination of credits. Note 41: Students can choose either to (i) write a research paper that meets the writing requirement; or (ii) write a series of shorter papers that do not satisfy the writing requirement. Other course requirements will need to be fulfilled regardless of writing option selected by student. Note 43: 2 credit course with 1 credit option. In order to register for the one credit option, student must meet with Kim Wolf Price, Director of Externship Programs, prior to credit adjustment. Note 48: LAW 838 - This seminar can be taken for 3 credits over two semesters or for 2 credits in the Fall semester only. Whether taken for 3 or 2 credits, this course may not be dropped after the first five days of the Fall semester. Students taking the seminar for 3 credits may register for 1 credit in the Fall and 2 credits in the Spring, or 2 credits in the Fall and 1 credit in the Spring. Students taking the course over two semesters must re-enroll for the Spring semester. Students taking the seminar for 2 credits must enroll only for the Fall semester. Initial enrollment is not permitted in the Spring semester. With permission of the instructor, for students enrolled over two semesters only, the course may satisfy the Writing Requirement. For students enrolled for only one semester, the course will not satisfy the Writing Requirement. Note 68: This class will meet on Wednesdays only from October 2 through November 20 from 8:00 am – 9:30 am. The aim of the course is to provide a practical insight into EU-US cooperation in criminal matters. The course is co-taught by Professor Todd Berger and Professor Martyna Kusak from Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, Poland. Using an online platform, students from both universities attend class simultaneously. Each class features live lectures by Professors Berger and Kusak as well as participation from students at each institution. The class features unique opportunities for students from both universities to cooperate with their foreign colleagues. Beyond jointly attending class, SU and AMU students will partner with each other while working on a hypothetical case relating to extradition and evidence-exchange between the EU-US.
