Background Information KurzweilKurzweil3000isareading,writing,andlearningsoftwareforstudentswithdyslexia,attentiondeficitdisorder,orotherlearningdifficulties,includingphysicalimpairmentsand/orotherlanguagelearningneeds.Kurzweilsoftwarecontainsawidevarietyoffeatures,includingTexttoSpeechcapabilities.
StudentsToBeTestedItisrecommendedthatastudenthaveexperienceusingKurzweilbeforeusingtheprogramfortesting.
Instructions Before Testing AdministrationScheduleTheFCATFall2007SunshineStateStandardsKurzweilMathematicsRetaketestmustbeadministeredduringtheofficialstatetestingschedule,September24September28,2007orOctober1October5,2007.Thetestisuntimed;however,testingforasinglesubjectmustnotextendbeyondtheendofaschoolday.Neartheendoftheschoolday,testadministratorsmuststoptestingandcollectalltestmaterials.Ifastudenthasbeenworkingthelengthofa typicalschooldayonasubject,buthasnotfinished,itisappropriatetostoptesting.
ProctorsAproctormustbeprovidedforeachstudenttakingtheKurzweilMathematicsRetaketest.TheproctorwillassistthestudentbyputtingtheKurzweilCDinthecomputer,helpingthestudenttoaccessthetest,managingpaperdocuments,andrecordingthestudentsanswersonthepapertestandanswerdocumentasneeded.
Proctorsmustbeinformedofthetestsecuritylawsandrulesprohibitinganyactivitiesthatmaythreatentheintegrityofthetest.EveryproctorwhomonitorsatestroomforanylengthoftimemustfollowtestproceduresandsigntheFCATSecurityLogdiscussedonpage20oftheFall2007FCATReadingandMathematicsTestAdministrationManual.AcopyoftheagreementtofollowtheKurzweilguidelinesisprovidedonpage13ofthisdocumentfortheproctortosign.

StudentDemographicInformationForstudentstestedviaKurzweil,alldemographicinformationonthefrontofthepapertestandanswerdocumentmustbecompleted.Thepreidentificationinformationprovidedbyeachdistrictwasusedtocreatestudentlabels.Adocumentispreidentifiedifithasastudentlabelattachedtothelowerleftcornerofthestudentgridsheet.Ifdemographicinformationismissingfromastudentlabel,gridtheinformationintheappropriateplace(s)withaNo.2pencil.Seepages511oftheFall2007FCATReadingandMathematicsTestAdministrationManualformoreinformation.
TestAdministratorandStudentSurveyAftertestinghasbeencompleted,boththetestadministratorandstudentshouldcompletethesurveysincludedwiththeirtestingmaterials.Thetestadministratorshouldassistthestudentincompletingthestudentsurvey.Completedsurveysshouldbereturnedwithscoringmaterials.
InstallKurzweilSoftwarePriortoadministeringthetest,allKurzweilsoftwaremustbeinstalledonthecomputerthestudentwilluseduringtesting.
TherewillbethreefilesontheKurzweilCD:aPDFversionofthepracticetest(usedonlyforprinting),theKurzweilversionofthepracticetest,andtheKurzweilversionoftheoperationaltest.Theoperationaltestisthesecuretesttobeadministeredonthedayoftesting.

AdministrationAccommodationsKurzweiltestingaccommodationsshouldreflectthestudentsregularKurzweilsettings,unlessthosesettingsprovidenonallowabletestaccommodations.Allaccommodationsallowedduringtestingwillbeaccessibleviathetoolbar.Ifanaccommodationisgrayedout,itwillnotbeaccessibleduringtesting.Ifastudentsaccommodationsettingsarenotcorrectwhentestingbegins,thetestadministratormayhelpthestudentsetthecorrectsettingsaslongasthesettingsareallowableforstatewideassessments.

FCATcalculatorsandFCATTALKINGCALCULATORSmaybeusedfortheKurzweilMathematicsRetaketest.
IfFCATtalkingcalculatorsareused,someoftheFCATtalkingcalculatorsdonothaveakeyforfindingthesquarerootofanumber.Priortothebeginningoftesting,informallstudentsusingtalkingcalculatorsthattheycanrequesttheuseofaregularFCATcalculatorforfindingthesquarerootofanumberiftheirFCATtalkingcalculatordoesnothavethesquarerootkey.Ifthestudentisunabletopresskeys,heorshemusttellyouwhatkeystopresstofindthesquarerootofanumber.
Similarly,someFCATtalkingcalculatorsmaynothaveachangesignkey(+/),whichisusedtoperformoperationsinvolvingnegativenumbers.Beforetestingbegins,notifythestudentsusingtalkingcalculatorsthattheycanrequesttheuseofregularFCATcalculatorsforperformingoperationsinvolvingnegativenumbersiftheirtalkingcalculatorsdonothavethechangesignkey.Keepinmindthatyoumayperformonlyactionsinvolvingnegativenumbers.
