SUNDAY WORSHIP Epiphany Sunday

GATHERING:

PRELUDE: Pat Herbold- Organist WELCOME: Marilyn Watkins- Liturgist CHORAL INTROIT: “I See The Star Of Glory” Choplin

LITANY FOR EPIPHANY OF THE LORD: Arise, shine; for your light has come! The glory of the Lord has risen upon us. Nations will come to His light, and rulers will seek His radiance. Christ will judge the peoples with righteousness and defend the cause of the poor. The mystery of the ages is revealed; the eternal plan of God is known to all. Let us kneel down before Him to give Him honor, glory, and praise. Let us offer Him all the treasures of our hearts and lives. Jesus Christ is the light of the world. All thanks and praise, all glory and honor be with our God. PRAYER: *HYMN OF LIGHT: “We Three Kings” #66 *CALLED TO CONFESS OUR SIN: *UNISON CONFESSION: God of glory, You sent Jesus among us as the light of the world, to reveal Your love for all people. We confess that our sin and pride hide the brightness of Your light. We turn away from the poor; we ignore the cries for justice; we do not strive for peace. In Your mercy, cleanse us from sin, and pour out the gifts of Your Spirit, that, forgiven and renewed, we may show forth Your glory shining in the face of Jesus Christ. Amen. (silent prayer)

ESTHER CIRCLE meets Thursday, January 10, 9:30am, for Bible Study. PW LUNCHEON is being postponed until further notice. THANK YOU Providing a meal to the clients of the Warming Shelter on New Years Day was an enormous project that took many hands. We did achieve our goal and provided a meal of salad, bread, pasta bake, and cake/cookies to many many people. It was too many people for us to count. We left the remaining food there for those who came into the shelter after we left. We heard many 'thank you' from the residents as we handed out this meal to them. We are blessed with so much and it was good to share with those less fortunate than us. Here is a thank you to all of you who helped by donating a cake or cookies, helping to prepare or serve the meal, or provided a financial donation. RESPONDING

*AFFIRMING WHAT WE BELIEVE: “The Apostle's Creed" I believe in God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord: Who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell. The third day He arose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead. I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the communion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen. GIVING OF OUR TITHES AND OFFERINGS:

Page 4: FAITH UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH January 4327 … · ANNOUNCEMENTS STAFFED NURSERY - Each week an adult staffs our nursery - available to children from infancy through pre-school.

OFFERTORY: *DOXOLOGY: “In The Bleak Midwinter” v.4 #36

What can I give Him, poor as I am? If I were a shepherd, I would bring a lamb; if I were a wise man, I would do my part; yet what I can I give Him: give my heart.

*PRAYER OF DEDICATION: Glorious God, you led people of wisdom to seek Jesus, your Holy Child, born of Mary. Overjoyed in the presence of his radiant light, they knelt down at the infant’s crib and offered him precious gifts. We, too, offer our gifts in gratitude, reverence, and thanksgiving for the birth of Jesus, whom you called to lead the world into fullness of life. Receive and bless this offering as a joyful sign of the boundless love and abundant life we are called to share in Christ. Amen. CELEBRATING THE SACRAMENT OF HOLY COMMUNION: Invitation: Prayer of Thanksgiving: Holy God…Therefore we praise you and join our voices with the voices of the faithful of every time and space, singing forever the great hymn: Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is the One who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest. With this bread and cup we remember your Word…Together we make our statement of faith: Christ has died. Christ is risen. Christ will come again. Holy God, we long for your Spirit…Fill us with your light. Bring the gift of peace on earth. Come, Holy Spirit. Prayers of Intercession And Lord’s Prayer: (Debts and Debtors) Words of Institution: Sharing The Feast: Today we celebrate the Feast of Epiphany by intinction; please come forward when invited, receive the bread, turn to the cup and dip the bread in the cup and partake. Then return to your seats by the side aisles. Prayer Following Communing: Loving and gracious God, from east and west, from north and south, You have gathered us at Your table, called us Your beloved, and fed us with holy food. Transform us to be the body of Christ in the world, and fortify us by the Spirit, so that we may serve You and our neighbors with great joy. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

SENDING

*CLOSING HYMN: “Rise Up, Shepherd, And Follow” #2096, STF Hymnal CLOSING SENTENCES: Let us go forth rejoicing in the light of God’s love. Like the Magi who followed the star, may the light of God shine through us and in us and all around us. Let us go out as one body, Christ’s body, to love, forgive, show mercy, make peace. And tell the Good news of Jesus, the world’s light. Go out rejoicing, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. *RESPONSE: “Go, Tell It On The Mountain” refrain #29 Go, tell it on the mountain over the hills and everywhere; go, tell it on the mountain that Jesus

Christ is born! *POSTLUDE:
