Fifty Years Ago: The Executive Board of FLC Women ….

met at 7:30 PM on February 20, 1967 at the home of Donna Besser. Those present were: Marianne Burns, Esther Hansen, Ruth Thompson, Faith Parson, Esther Christiansen, Eva Vaughn, Cora Darling and Alice Sergeant.

After a discussion of the Santa Rosa Congress for Community Progress, it was decided not to send a delegate.

Christian Action Chairman Ruth Thompson reported that chairs for the nursery had been purchased and painted.

It was reported that Lucille Smith had purchased 42 punch cups for the kitchen instead of 25. The board decided to recommend to the General meeting that we pay for the additional 17 cups.

It was announced that there would be a joint circle meeting February 28th at Donna Besser’s home.

Marianne reminded the board members of the Seminary district meeting on March 6th at St. Marks in Pleasant Hill.

Ruth Thompson recommended that someone be appointed to handle subscriptions for the Lutheran Woman’s Magazine. Esther Hansen offered to do this.

Esther Hansen, Faith and Life Chairman, reported that there would be no circle meetings in March because of Holy Week. She announced that the program committee recommended that we invite Amy Has to speak on Conditions in China at a Sunday afternoon family gathering and meal sometime in April, possibly April 16. Faith Parson recommended that we extend an invitation to Miss Hau and offer a gift of $15.00.

Donna Besser reported that her neighbor had offered a supply of get well cards to the church for the Sunshine Chairman to use.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.

Alice Sergeant, Secretary

A Reading from Mark 6:16 - 21

“And when you fast, do not look dismal, like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you, they have their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by men but by your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you. Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust consume and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust consumes and where thieves

do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
