With a very heavy heart I regret to tell you that I will be stepping down as Faith Formation Coordinator. Due to

family circumstances, Carlos and I have decided to return to Florida. I have accepted a position as a classroom teacher and start in early August. I have really enjoyed growing in faith with the families and parishioners during the past 4 years of my time here at

St. Mary’s. St. Mary’s will always be a second home to us, and we hope to be able to visit, sing with the choir, and worship with you during our Christmas and summer breaks. You will forever be in our prayers!

Opportunity for Confession “Drive-thru” confessions will be available Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, 6-7pm at the Church of St. Mary in Le Center and Saturday, 3-4pm at Nativity in Cleveland in the parish parking lots. Cones will be set up to direct the flow of traffic.

Mass - THIS Sunday, July 12 Church of St. Mary Parking Lot

at 9AM & 12 PM (Spanish) Holy Communion will be distributed shortly after Mass ends

with social distancing procedures in place. If the weather is favorable, Mass will take place in the parking lot. If the weather is poor, the Mass will take place in the church with no more than 50% capacity in attendance. The Mass will be live-streamed either way.

Rosary in the Park

The monthly public Fatima Rosary will be held Monday, July 13th, at 12 noon, at the Le Center South Park (near the Pool) under and surrounding the Gazebo. You may even park and stay in your car. We will pray loudly! In rainy weather we will gather at the fairgrounds under/around the

A blessed Sunday to all of you! No lengthy article today, just a few words of gratitude.

These last several months have been quite challenging for so many of us. I want to thank all of you for so many things. For the many volunteers who have stepped forward to help with a variety of tasks, thank you! From money counters, to parking lot Mass “traffic control” attendants, to the camera person helping us to live stream the Masses, to our choir/cantors who have helped us to worship God, to our Pastoral and Finance council members who have continued to provide invaluable feedback and advice on certain pressing issues, to our employees who labored under awkward circumstances to ensure that parish life continues to thrive as best as possible, thank you!

Lastly, but by no means least, a huge thank you to all parishioners for your gracious patience, flexibility, and mercy in these past months. The whole parish has been forced to operate, to worship, to serve, etc. under less than ideal circumstances (to put it lightly!). Through it all, you have shown yourselves to be magnanimous (i.e. great souled). Rather than complaining, you’ve chosen to pray. Rather than being caught up in selfishness, you’ve committed many selfless acts towards each other, to family, to the poor, the needy, and, for sure, to me.

I have been reminded, once again, how generous the people of God are who make up our parish. I am so grateful and blessed to be your Pastor. As we continue to navigate together these next months, let’s continue to act as the strong family we are united in Christ. May God bless you all! Pray for me as I pray for you.

We celebrated St. Maria Goretti’s feast day last week on July 6, 2020. Maria was a young martyr for purity. Born of poor but devout farm laborers in Corinaldo, Italy, in 1890, little Maria helped her mother care for the family after the death of her father. The family shared a house with another family, the Serenellis. At the age of 11, she convinced a friend to instruct her in the catechism, and she received First Holy Communion in a borrowed dress. Only a few months later, 19-year-old Allesandro Serenelli, attempted to rape her. When Maria begged him not to commit such a grave sin, he stabbed her repeatedly. She died having offered him forgiveness.

From heaven, Maria appeared to the unrepentant attacker while he was in prison and he experienced a profound conversion. When he was released after 27 years in prison, Serenelli asked pardon of Maria’s mother and was present in Rome at Maria’s canonization.

In a sealed letter that was opened after his death, Serenelli wrote, “In my early youth, I went down a false path; the way of evil, which led me to ruin. Maria Goretti, now a saint, was the good angel that providence placed ahead of my steps to save me. I still bear, engraved upon my heart, her words of reproach and forgiveness. She prayed for me; she interceded for her murderer.” Magnificat, July, 2020; Vol.22, No. 5, pgs. 83 and 85. Many of us made note of the beautiful weather we would have had for our festival this year and we thought of the day full of fun, great food, working hard, and building community. We also missed all of our visitors from far and near! Our festival is also a major fundraiser for our church. We asked you to make a monetary donation in hopes of raising the amount that we usually bring in each year (about $30,000). Thank you for your generous response! To date we have collected $31,776! Our festival has always been a success due to our team effort. Together, we did it again!

Healing Takes Time Fall Retreat September 19, 2020 Saturday, 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Due to health and safety concerns surrounding Covid-19, we are hosting a virtual retreat this fall. Even though we won’t meet face-to-face, this online retreat offers an uplifting experience to help those suffering from the loss of a

loved one find hope and healing in their grief journey. Retreat includes: Live streaming presentations by guest speakers. Speaker panel with question/answer opportunity. Small group sharing among participants with similar

type of loss. A care package with all of the items you need for the retreat, plus special gifts to bring you comfort. Small Group breakout sessions will be held for several types of loss. Groups will be led by those who have experienced the same loss, and

understand what you are going through. Breakout sessions include: Loss of Child • Loss of Spouse • Loss of Sibling or Parent • Pregnancy or Infant Loss

• Loss through Suicide • Loss through Homicide

Sharon Peterson - Keynote Speaker “Transitions in Grieving” After 23 years of marriage, Sharon became a widow at the age of 45 when her husband, Jim, died unexpectedly. Upon retirement from her law practice, she

obtained Spiritual Direction training and certification from the University of San Diego. Since then she has provided spiritual counseling and support to both individuals and groups. Concurrent with this pandemic she

has walked alongside a friend whose husband died by suicide in mid-February. In that experience she explored new dimensions of her own grief journey. She lives in San Diego, CA.
