Dear Parents/ Carers,

WELCOME

Welcome back to the new school year. I’d like to especially welcome the new families that have

enrolled at Fairvale PS across the school. I hope your time at our school is very rewarding. We also

welcome ninety three Kindergarten students so far this year!

STAFF NEWS

We welcome some new staff members to FVPS this year:

ROCKETING AROUND THE SCHOOL WITH MR PITT

This year I will continue my journey around the school in my rocket. I will include a few photos of my visit in

each edition of the school newsletter. This week I visited our School Administration and Support Staff. Check

out some of my photos in this edition of the newsletter.

SCHOOL LEADERS

I would like to take this opportunity to officially welcome our new school leaders for 2019.

SCHOOL CAPTAINS – Miguel Assaf, Sally Pauulu

PREFECTS – Rose Hamawi, Nardeen Abdulmaseeh, Christina Tran, Lara Scepanovic, Samuel Bechara and

Jacob Vaigafa-Pate

MEET THE TEACHER AFTERNOON

I would encourage all families to attend the ‘Meet the Teacher’ afternoon. This year we have decided

for parents to meet their child’s teacher in classrooms. An information note will be going home where

you can select the best time for you to attend. We would also like you to complete the ‘Two stars and

a wish’ sheet. During this time the teacher will talk to you about the teaching and learning programs

for 2019 as well as the sheet you return. This is not an interview, rather an information session.

FAIRVALE FAIR DAY

On Wednesday 5 December, 2018, we held our annual end of year Fairvale Fair Day. It was an enjoyable day for students, their families and the staff of Fairvale PS. I would like congratulate the students on their outstanding behaviour on the day. These days are not possible without the support of our community. I would also like to thank Miss Lee, our Fair Day Coordinator, and her team for planning the 2018 Fairvale Fair Day. Monies raised on the day went towards the new soccer fence.

FAIRVALE PUBLIC SCHOOL STAFF LIST AND ROLES

CLASSES 2019

We have made slight changes to our class structure and will begin next week with 5 Kindergarten classes.

We have decided to use some of our budget allocation to fund 2 classes so this means we have 26 classes

in 2019. Having 26 classes has meant all our classes are of excellent size, manageable for the teacher and

most importantly, focused on individual student achievement and improvement. This year our classes are

named after Indigenous Australians. This coincides with International Year of Indigenous Languages. When

writing your child’s name for different things you can still use the initial of the class. For example, Miss

David’s class is called 1 Darlow. You can still write 1D. Each teacher has information on the classroom door

about their Indigenous Australian – check it out!

We also have many teachers in specialist roles in 2019.

NON-TEACHING STAFF

An important part of our school is our highly valued staff that work in the office, in classrooms, taking care of

the school grounds and generally making sure that everyone in our school is well looked after.

COMMUNICATION

If you have concerns about any issue, and it is classed based, please make contact with your child’s teacher.

Remember an appointment may be necessary as teachers cannot speak to you during teaching time. We also

have an executive team who guide the teaching and learning programs and wellbeing of all members of our

school. At times you may find it necessary to organise to meet with one of the executive members of staff.

Have a great fortnight,

7 February 2019 Term 1, Week 2

From the Deputy Principal

Attendance Matters

I am aiming for our highest attendance ever recorded this year!

Children and young people who regularly attend school and complete year

12 or an equivalent have better health outcomes, better employment

outcomes and higher incomes across their lives. It is very important that

children develop habits of regular attendance from an early age.

WELCOME BACK!

I would like to welcome everybody back to the new year! I was so excited to return to school to see all of our returning students

and families and meet our new school members. It sounds like many of the students have had a great summer break and are

looking forward to their year of learning ahead. I have visited lots of the classrooms and fabulous learning has already started. I

have seen students engaging in a variety of lessons including writing, STEM, reading and mathematics.

I would like to welcome our 2019 Kindergarten students. What a great start they have made! The students are very settled and

eager to continue their learning journey at Fairvale Public School. A big thank you to the Kindergarten teachers, support teachers

and School Learning Support Officers for their dedication and support over the last week. This has enabled the Kindergarten

students to make a smooth transition to school life. It is so important that students start school in a positive and encouraging

environment. This sets them up for success in later years. I am excited to see the students learn and grow throughout 2019!

PROGRAMS AND OPPORTUNITIES

Many existing and new programs will be happening in 2019. The K-2 teachers will continue their implementation of L3 (Language

Learning & Literacy). This is a successful literacy program that involves the explicit teaching of reading, writing, speaking and

listening. Students engage in reading quality literature and participate in high quality independent tasks, which allows them to

practise their skills. Targeted numeracy programs will also continue. This involves students practising their counting strategies to

solve number problems. 3-6 students will continue their work in Focus on Reading to build on their comprehension skills. The

innovative use of flexible furniture and technology will also be a focus in classrooms to cater for our future focused learners.

Watch this space as I will be sharing successful stories relating to these and new programs throughout 2019!

Have a great fortnight!

7 February 2019 Term 1, Week 2

Friday 15 February

Welcome to Fairvale OSHClub 2019! We would like to say a BIG,

WELCOME BACK to all of our returning families and kids and a

HUGE WELCOME to our brand new families joining us in 2019!

What do we do at OSHClub? We are your resident Before and

After School Care service, to care for your children when you

start work early or finish late. We help your children with

Homework, build friendships and relationships that will last a life

time and of course HAVE FUN!

Even though we had a small start to the week, we still had heaps

of fun exploring what our kids like to do, what they want to do at

OSHClub and how we can make it even better than last year! We

created some really amazing Lego spaceships and even a Thor

hammer! We created some pretty cool drawings on our brand-

new chalkboards, we got spoilt and had some Pancakes for

breakfast and even had our very own Handy Lady come and fix

some things around OSHClub!!

If you would like some information about

OSHClub and what we do or how to get

your child started at OSHClub, We are

located in the school hall, or you can find

Miss Keira walking around the school

during morning and afternoons, wearing a

bright red shirt and pulling some pretty

funny faces!
