A NEW GENERATION OF CONCRETE

In 1986, the engineers at Aalborg Portland invented a brand-new type of concrete with a complex mix of cement binders and steel fibres, which they named Compact Reinforced Composite (CRC).

This new concrete has since been proving to have strength and durability. The concrete is very dense and therefore closely envelopes the reinforcement, which enables use of very small covers. At the same time, the concrete utilizes the reinforcement more efficiently without breaking, even under extreme conditions.

In practice, this means that a smaller amount of High-Performance Concrete can be used compared to ordinary concrete.

MATERIAL SAFETY WITH CRC Since 2001, Hi-Con has been developing this type of concrete further and today, our ge-neration of materials is the world’s oldest, best documented and tested High-Performance Concrete. CRC has therefore developed into a new generation of High-Performance Con-crete with the same high material security as the original mix. We have designated the new generation of High-Performance Concrete i2®, i3® and i4®.

Curtain walls from Hi-Con are developed and produced exclusively with an aesthetic aim in mind. Here it is possible to produce large-format elements that are custom-made for the individual project and with endless possibilities for formability. Hi-Con’s High-Performance Concrete generation also makes it possible to produce extremely thin and lightweight ele-ments that can be used to coat the cover. The elements can be cast with a thickness as low as 45 mm.

Curtain wall elements in High-Performance Concrete are especially suitable for projects in which the architect has a dream of creating a distinctive, unique and aesthetically-promi-nent facade. Here, Hi-Con can help develop custom-made curtain wall elements that contri-bute to define the architectural expression of the building and to living up to the architect’s dreams and expectations of the construction project’s look.

Single-sided insulated facade elements from Hi-Con can be used for both renovation and post-insulation projects as well as new construction. As the name suggests, the elements are isolated on one side and can be installed on an already existing back wall or a newly constructed one. The single-sided insulated façade elements are suitable for the renovation of an existing façade or cladding of a new back wall, because they are simple to mount and have a low weight.

The facade elements can be cast with a sheet thickness as low as 30 mm in thickness and are possible to manufacture as self-supporting elements with one’s own choice of insulati-on. The strength and density of the High-Performance Concrete also makes it possible to produce the elements in large format, and you also have the ability to tailor the surface of the elements to fulfill your dreams of an aesthetically-unique look.

INSTALLATION PRINCIPLESThe Single-sided insulated facade elements can be installed with surrounding support fra-mes or as self-supporting elements with integrated ribs. See the simple installation princip-les on page 18.

CLADDING

Cladding elements from Hi-Con are often used in contexts in which there is a need for spe-cial solutions, other cladding elements in connection with a facade solution, or if there is a need to create uniformity between the elements used on the facade to create a complete building envelope.

With cladding elements from Hi-Con, it is possible to cast elements that contribute to crea-ting an attractive overall look to your building while the elements are light and easy to install. These could, for example, be lightweight elements with glued bricks, cladding elements in the right surface colours, cornices or other special elements that create coherence with the rest of the facade screen. Cladding elements can be as little as 45 mm in thickness and can be cast in large format.

Sandwich elements from Hi-Con are slim elements with a high insulation value that can pro-vide finished surfaces both inside and out.

The slim sandwich elements from Hi-Con measure approximately 300 mm in thickness, including insulation, and live up to the UV-value requirements. The slenderness of the ele-ments increases the building’s effective living space and the extra square metres can there-fore contribute to increasing the value of your housing project. In addition, it is possible to use the sandwich elements from Hi-Con as heavy load-bearing and fire-resistant elements.

BOX MODULES

High-Performance Concrete box modules from Hi-Con have a long service-life, low weight and are insulated according to the UV-value requirements. The box modules consist of slim elements measuring from 300 mm in thickness and with the possibility of building finished internal and external facades. This means that there is no need for cladding the facades, which - together with the slenderness of the elements - provides more effective square metres for living space.

At Hi-Con, it is possible to manufacture box modules in customer-specific sizes and formats and to stack the box modules, so that they can be used in a multi-storey building. The modules are self-supporting and can be stacked up to four storeys with the possibility of connecting pipes.

INSTALLATION PRINCIPLESThe installation of the box modules depends on the purpose of the module and whether they must be able to be disassembled again and moved to another location or whether they must function as a finished container, which is never to be separated. See examples on page 36
