RENTING vs BUYING

MAKE IT EZY, WITH EZY RENTAL

YOUR BUSINESS AND YOU, ARE THE WINNERS!

We are often asked, ‘why should i rent and not buy?’ there are, of course many benefits of renting equipment, not the least of which are the superior taxation benefits afforded by renting over purchasing, where only depreciation is claimable.

Renting provides almost 50% additional income tax savings per year on a basic equipment package and 100% more income tax savings per year for a trailer.

To help you get the word around, here are the major benefits of being an EZY Rental client.

SAVE YOUR CAPITAL FOR YOUR OWN FAMILY NEEDS

No need to save funds to buy new equipment when you can simply rent to buy & let the business pay the affordable weekly rent as you go…

YOU CAN AFFORD THE BESTEQUIPMENT FROM THE BEST BRANDS!

Only the best will do and EZY Rental is not restricted to one or two brands, EZY Rental can get the lot!

NO NASTY RESIDUALSTO PAY AT TERM END!

You are renting to buy and, at term end, all you will pay for your equipment is $1.00**

**In NSW and the ACT trailers always remain the property of EZY Rental, they are re-furbished and serviced after the initial term and offered for rent at a greatly reduced rate.

100% TAX DEDUCTABLE

Every cent of rent you pay is tax deductible, if the equipment is used solely for business purposes.

We have years of experience in the mowing fran-chise field and we can help you make the right decisions on equipment, to start and to grow!

GET THE BEST IN SERVICE BEFOREAND AFTER THE DEAL!

THE EQUIPMENT IS YOURS TO SELLAT THE END OF THE TERM

Pay your dollar, then take it and keep it, or you can sell it at the going rate for second hand gear.

Starting in 2004, EZY Rental Equipment was created by Glenn Camilleri who had been a Jim’s Mowing franchisee for 13 years at that time. The evolution of the rental equipment idea was from Glenn’s own experience where an enormous amount of down time would be caused as a result of equipment needing to be serviced, when he should have been working.

As Glenn says, “That was when I decided there must be a better way of managing my equipment, because then I understood how reliant I was on those machines I loaded on my trailer every day; I knew exactly what that meant to my income.

That’s why I decided to get into the rental business…the kind I wished had been around when I first started. I decided that anyone starting out a new business, or needing to grow their existing business, needs some help with cash flow, so instead of worrying whether the equipment will start when required, they can worry about making sure they give excellent customer service”.

So, now there’s EZY Rental Equipment and seven years on we have a sound knowledge of what contractors need to do the job, and the back-up service is second to none.

It’s simple – you just pay a weekly amount, and you know that your quality equipment will drastically reduce time spent in the repair shop. You know that for one low weekly rental, you will always have up to date equipment, and the cost will be covered by smoko on Monday morning!

Benefits galore when you rent from Ezy Rental

YOUR BUSINESS AND YOU, ARE THE WINNERS!

We are often asked, ‘why should i rent and not buy?’ there are, of course many benefits of renting equipment, not the least of which are the superior taxation benefits afforded by renting over purchasing, where only depreciation is claimable.

Renting provides almost 50% additional income tax savings per year on a basic equipment package and 100% more income tax savings per year for a trailer.

To help you get the word around, here are the major benefits of being an EZY Rental client.

WANT TO SHAVE THOUSANDS OFF YOUR MORTGAGE… IT’S EZY AND HERE’S HOW!!

Your home is the most valuable item you will own, and it will continue to grow into a valuable asset, year after year. But, in some cases you will not own it for up to 30 years.

You can make a big difference to the time frame, and the interest paid, by paying a lump sum whenever possible.

Check your loan savings by typing this link in your browser www.nab.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/nab/nab/home/personal_finance/1/4

Then click on lump sum payments and follow the steps.

If you are a home owner and want to save thousands in interest charges and reduce the term of your mortgage, then you would be wise to spend your $9,264.00 on your mortgage and take the equipment rental option.

You will see here, the savings are huge on all fronts.

A business must use its capital in the most effective and profitable way.

To purchase a trailer, mower, brush cutter, blower and hedge trimmer will cost in the order of $9,400.00.

If the package is bought outright, a tax deduction of around $2,564.00* can be expected in the first year.

HOWEVER…

If the equipment is rented, you will still have your $9,400.00 capital which can be used to pay off the mortgage or credit cards.

For the typical $300,000.00 mortgage, over 30 years, at an interest rate of 6.8%, you will pay $404,000.00 in interest over the full term.

If you were to take the $9,400.00 and make a lump sum payment off the same mortgage, after five years, you would save an incredible $38,483.00 in interest payments and shave 2 years off the mortgage term. [Pay the same amount at ten years and $25,379.00, and 1 year 5 months, will be saved].

If the equipment is rented, an income tax saving of $4,736.00** will be achieved over the term.

Credit card interest rates are 18.99% to 22.99% per annum and minimum payments do not even pay the interest charges…

A business must use its capital in the most effective and profitable way.

*Based on full depreciation in the first year at a 30% tax rate**Based on 100% tax deduction for rental charges over the term at a 30% tax rate.

hardware store. Speak to your local nursery or garden suppliers to find out the recommended pH levels for your area.

If your lawns are suffering from any dead patches or are a bit sparse in some areas, this is the perfect time to sow some new seed for spring. Remove dead grass and fill with loose soil, then sow the seed.

Cut to the correct height.

Coming into the warmer months lawns may be a bit patchy, growing better in some spots than others. Until spring really starts to kick in, keep the mowers cutting height high to begin, this will even the length out. Don’t cut a lawn more than one third of its height, as this may expose the lawn to disease and the lingering weather extremes of winter and the onset of summer heat.

EVERYTHINGHAS IT’S SEASONPREPARE FORBUSY TIMESEvery industry has a good season; ours has a long high season. With new beginnings in September and March, our ‘high’ season can last for at least nine months, until our emphasis shifts to maintain a good business. How ready are you for the new high season?

Make sure all of your equipment is in good working order.

Check that mower blades are sharp and that all of your equipment is serviced with fresh spark plugs, new oil, clean air filters and fresh fuel. If you look after your equipment, they should inturn look after you and your gardens throughout the busy season. If you need new equipment, give EZY Rental a call.

If you are using a mower with a catcher, consider investing in a mower that has the ability to mulch as well as catch.

By using a mulching mower and returning the grass clippings to your lawn you are essentially returning 15% more nutrients back into the soil. Mulching also makes your business more efficient, and you don’t have to worry about disposing the clippings you catch.

In spring there are a number of extra services you can offer clients.

Having more strings to your bow makes for a much more interesting and lucrative day.

Aerating lawns will reduce soil compaction and increase air circulation. You can hire a lawn aerator to do the job from your local hire shop. A well aerated lawn will become more efficient in catching rain or irrigation water instead of it just running off.

Testing a lawns pH levels will establish how acidic or alkaline the soil is. This will help to determine the condition of soil, and what the soil may need to nourish and sustain a healthy lawn.

Purchase a pH kit from your local garden or

IF IT APPRECIATES, BUY ITIF IT DEPRECIATES, RENT IT - J PAUL GETTY

These were the famous words spoken by the super-rich oil baron J Paul Getty:

If you apply this advice to the high value items that you buy like your house and your car you can see that it still makes sense. House prices are almost always on the increase so it makes sense to buy.

Your car makes even more sense. If you were to buy a brand new car it is likely to depreciate in value by up to 33%, even before you have driven off the lot.

If you want to buy new, or replace your old, work equipment, by far the best option for most people is to rent it. Renting equipment for work use brings many advantages, not the least being you are insulated from the effects of depreciation.

Your payments are fixed for the duration of the agreement, so you can budget each month. What’s more, you will find that most current rental deals are very competitive when compared with what a bank loan would cost to buy the same items.

So Mr. Getty’s advice still holds true today. If something is likely to increase in value then it

makes sense to buy it, but if the value is likely to fall, you should rent it and use your own funds to invest in something that appreciates in value, like your family home.

THERE’S NEVER ENOUGHHOURS IN THE DAY!So, how many times have you come home from work and said ‘where did that day go?’

Being a business owner, and the one responsible for all you do, your thoughts have to turn to the efficiency of what you do.

Every regular job should get easier the more often you do it, however there comes a time when, if you keep doing these jobs the same way, you will run out of time to grow your business any further.

The key to improving efficiency and growing your business is to gear up.

If you have too many regular lawns to consider extra work for them or taking on more clients, you could improve your output greatly by using a ride on mower. Manufacturers today recognise the fact that many commercial contractors are looking to use a ride-on and have designed newer models to suit access for residential properties.

There is now quite a range and EZY Rental would be happy to give you some independent advice on which model suits your needs.

OUR CLIENTSGlenn and Ezy Rental solved my new equipment problem by providing me with an affordable, tax effective solution for my equipment. I was able to rent what I needed for a VERY affordable weekly rate which enabled me to grow my business.

I also had equipment stolen from my Ute and trailer. The insurance company can take up to 4 weeks to settle a claim and in that time I've lost thousands of dollars. Glenn and Ezy Rental again solved my problem with replacement equipment within 48 hours, ensuring I was able to continue working.

Nothing has ever been too much trouble and no request has gone unanswered. I highly recommend Glenn and Ezy Rental.

Being a Jim!

You have the integrity of the uniform that gives a level of trust not available to the cowboy operators.

You have a system to organise your business, so that every time you provide a service to a client, it achieves a level of satisfaction that will see you back at their property.

You have the ability to provide extra services to fulfil the client’s every need.

You have the back-up of the system to cover unexpected circumstances, where others would just lose a client.

However, unless you provide consistently great customer service, you can still have problems.

YOUR POINTSOF DIFFERENCEAnyone, anywhere could go to the yellow pages, or to Google, and find a contractor to do some work for them around the garden.

Of course, being the largest mowing franchise in the world, there is every chance those clients are going to call Jim’s and, if franchisees have made themselves available to take work, they will get their share of leads.

So, how do you ensure the leads will turn into regular work? How do you convince that prospective client that you are the one to continue doing the work?

What makes you different to any other mowing person?

CUSTOMER SERVICEIS KING!What is great customer service?

• It’s consistent quality.

• It’s great communication.

• It’s the timely response to your client’s needs.

• It’s great punctuality.

• It’s the neat & tidy appearance of you and your equipment.

• It’s keeping your word.

• It’s doing what you said you would.

• It’s being part of the team.

Jim’s is an iconic brand, tried and tested over a long period of time, and probably the reason you invested your hard earned in the business.

What a waste of your money if you ignore messages from your clients, or new leads.

A waste also if you don’t wear your uniform or don’t give a Jim’s invoice.

A waste also if you are late without letting the clients know.

How do you feel when a tradesman lets you down?

Prepare the soil as you would any garden bed. Measure the area of your planned lawn. Schedule your delivery of the turf after preparatory work is completed and you are ready to install. Prompt installation is crucial to a strong beginning for your lawn.

STEP 2 – Preparation

Spray existing weeds and grasses; allow a minimum of 10-14 days, with a complete herbicide. Living Turf recommends Weedmaster Duo for use in domestic situations. If there is existing lawn, remove old grass after it dies and remove it.

Rake the area and smooth the soil removing rocks, roots and large clods. Use Renoblen 7-1‐9 at 5 kg/100m2 as an under turf mix. Watering the prepared area to a depth of 75-150mm is recommended for most soils.

STEP 3 – Turf Installation

Begin laying turf along the longest straight line, such as a driveway or path. The first line is the most important; as it will help you establish the entire lawn correctly. Butt and push edges and ends against each other tightly, without stretching. Avoid gaps or overlaps. Stagger the joints in each row in a brick-like pattern; use a large sharp knife to

fuel cap or add fuel while the engine is running or hot.

Replace a worn or faulty muffler.

Do not allow children or personnel unfamiliar with the safe use of your equipment to use it. Keep children away from your work area.

Wear suitable eye and ear protection when operating any mowing equipment.

Stop the engine, disconnect the spark plug cap and inspect the mower if it begins to vibrate abnormally or after striking a foreign object.

Never pick up a mower or put hands beneath the deck while the engine is running.

trim around corners, sprinkler heads, etc. Avoid leaving small strips at outer edges. Place the turf pieces across any slope instead of up or down the slope. Tamp the turf or gently use a roller to establish good root contact with the soil. Fill any gaps with loose soil. After laying, roll the entire area.

STEP 4 – Watering

Give the lawn 25mm of water within one hour of installation. Water daily or more often especially on hot and windy days. The new turf must be kept moist for at least the first two weeks, until it is firmly rooted and knitted together. Once the turf has knit, it should be watered enough over the first few months to maintain a healthy growing condition.

MAINTENANCE

After approximately 7 to 10 days, mow with a sharp mower. The first mow should not be attempted until turf is firmly rooted and secure in place. Generally, remove no more than 1/3 of the grass height at each mowing. Keep your mower blades sharp. Follow up fertilisation should use NX Gold 29-0-8 at 1.8kg/100m2, applied 4 weeks after planting.

MOWINGSAFETY TIPSNever mow while barefoot or wearing open sandals or thongs. It is advisable to wear long trousers and solid footwear. If you must wear shorts, wear leg protectors also.

Know your controls; learn how to stop your equipment in an emergency.

Stop the engine and disconnect the spark plug cap before clearing blockages or checking or working on your equipment.

Always inspect the mower before operating to see that blades, blade bolts and cutter assembly are not worn or damaged. Replace worn or damaged blades and bolts in sets to maintain balance.

Check all nuts, bolts and screws often for tightness.

Refuel equipment outdoors only. Do not smoke while refuelling. Add fuel before starting the engine and never remove the

Trailer Maintenance Your Mowing Trailer is arguably your most important piece of equipment; it not only carries your power and gardening equipment, but also your green and hard waste and grass clippings. The trailer is also a mobile advertisement for your business, read every day by many potential clients for you and other Mowing operators in your group. Needless to say it is very important that your trailer be kept in top order to physically do the job you need it to do, and to look the part in representing the company brand image. EZY Rental has asked one of our trusted suppliers, Clarke’s Country Campers, to give franchisee’s some guidance with the key steps to maintaining a trailer in good condition, and here they are for your information:

Every Week: Check lights for operation, this is best done each time you attach the trailer to the vehicle.

After the first 4 weeks [or 500kms]: Tighten all wheel nuts and all bolts including U bolts, coupling bolts, shackle bolts. Jack up the wheels and check the bearing tension by holding the top of the tyre and pulling it in and out. If there is any movement remove the dust cap and split pin and tighten the castle nut as is necessary. Check the tyre pressures, 36 psi is the average pressure required.

Every 4 weeks: Grease the overrider coupling. Grease the suspension if necessary and check the tyre pressures. After the first 2 months: Check all U bolts for tension. Jack up the trailer and check the bearings for movement. If needed remove the grease cap and split pin then tighten the castle nut by one notch. Don’t forget to replace the split pin and grease cap. Every 6 months: Jack up the wheels and check the bearings for smooth operation and tighten if necessary. Check the shackle bushes by visually lining up the centre of the shackle pin with the centre of the spring bush housing; if the centre of the housing is above the centre of the shackle pin, the bushes need replacing. Check the tyre pressures.

© Clarke’s Country Campers

Every 12 months: Jack up the wheels and remove the bearings, visually check the condition of the bearings and regrease or replace as necessary. Check the shackle bushes as per the six month check. Check ALL bolts for tightness. Carry out a general check for any cracks or damage to undercarriage. Check tyre pressures. General Maintenance Tips: If the lights are not working, first check the globes to make sure they haven’t blown, replace if necessary. At times on the 7 pin flat plugs, the pins tend to close up. If this occurs, use a Stanley knife to slide between the slits on the pins to ease them open slightly; this will give the pins better contact. If the lights are still not working, check the wiring for any damage. Check the trailer plug to see if it is fitting to the car correctly. If the car is not the normal tow vehicle it could have a wiring crossover; this can even occur with new cars. Before moving the trailer always ensure the rear and side ramps are up and secure, as well as closing the tailgate and doors. If your trailer has a braking unit, check that the hand brake cable has not been over tightened, or that it is not too loose. Always maintain a 15mm gap between the slide shaft and the hand brake handle. If your trailer has an over-rider backing unit, make sure you flip the tag on the coupling when reversing, this will prevent the brakes from engaging. Looking after the paint work: Never leave water or grass clippings/ rubbish sitting in the trailer longer than necessary, they will have an adverse effect on the condition of the painted surfaces and will cause severe rust in some cases. To stop water from pooling, store the trailer with the front higher than the back, this allows the water to drain out of the rear gate. A regular wash and the occasional wax and polish will keep your trailer looking good. Get yourself a can of touch up paint to cover potential rust spots created by stone chips and the general wear and tear caused by carrying your various hand tools and power equipment. Look after your trailer and it will look after you!
