IMPORTANT CONSIDERATIONS

DUNRAE GARDENS ECA MEMBERSHIP All students wishing to take a DGECA must hold a current DGECA family membership. This entitles all Dunrae students in your immediate family to register in ECA for current year.

ECA RULES AND REGULATIONS Upon request, detailed ECA rules will be sent home.

ECA rules exist for the safety of all of the students. We ask you and your children to respect these rules.

Students are expected to behave in an appropriate manner while attending ECA. classes. Students must be respectful of one another as well as of the ECA staff.

Rudeness, argumentative behavior or foul language will not be tolerated!

DGECA reserves the right to remove a child from any activity when their behavior warrants such action.

DGECA reserves the right to charge a late fee of $1/min/late for any non-Daycare child not picked up on time after their activity ends.

Students are not permitted, for any reason, to return to homeroom classes after the 3:35 bell has rung.

We will not accept new registrations from families who have outstanding fees owed from previous sessions.

REFUND POLICY

Cancellations due to program changes, serious medical reasons and leaving the school will be fully refunded.

Other refund requests must be submitted in writing for consideration.

Approved refunds will be issued on a pro-rated basis less a 15% fee.

Classes missed due to illness or personal reasons will not be reimbursed

Students removed for bad behavior do not qualify for refunds!

We will make every attempt to re-assign any classes missed due to unscheduled cancellations on our part. (e.g. teacher unavailability, inclement weather or changes to the school calendar).

WE NEED YOU!!

The Dunrae ECA Program is always need of volunteers to help with the running of the ECA program on a day-to-day basis.

We need help between 3:30pm – 6:00pm with the following tasks:

o Take attendance o Verify whereabouts of students who have not shown up

for the activity o Help students change clothes for activities if required (i.e.

karate, dance, change back into school clothes or outdoor clothing)

o Help out as needed during (photocopying, bathroom breaks, etc.)

o Ensure students have all personal belongings (Note: children are not permitted to return to their classroom to pick up any missing items)

o Sign-out children going to daycare o Ensure parents have signed out their children before

leaving

Are you able to provide 15-20 minutes of your time to help out? Any amount of time is greatly appreciated.

For security purpouses, any parent wishing to volunteer at the school is required to fill out the “police check” form and submit it to the school. Only parents on the ECA “help” list are allowed inside the school during the activities.

Computer Skills - Bilingual NEW! The Canadian Red Cross Babysitting Course - Bilingual Back again this term will be Computer Skills Courses for both beginners and Intermediates. Learn and perfect your skills for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and the Internet. The program will focus around in-class project and assignments geared towards perfecting skills in each of the 4 basic programs.

Basic first-aid and caregiving skills for youth. Participants learn how to provide care to younger children in a variety of age groups, and how to prevent and respond to emergencies. Course also offers youth the training to promote themselves as a babysitter to prospective parents.

Chess - English

McGill Redpath Museum - Bilingual Students are taught the basics of chess while ensuring they progress at their own individual speed. Students will be invited to participate in local tournaments.

McGill’s Redpath brings the museum to you! Ingrid Birker, the Science Outreach Administrator for the museum has designed a special program that uses real props from the museum for all to examine. Instructed by qualified, science majors from McGill University, topics for this semester include Minerals, Fossils, Dinosaurs, Shells and Bones.

Kid Chef: Asian Cuisine – English Children are taken on a culinary journey preparing Asian delights for everyone to enjoy! Our junior chefs will make and sample dumplings, vegetable stir fries, and more! Basic food preparation techniques, kitchen safety and nutrition will also be taught. Children will love this hands-on approach to cooking and eating! All supplies provided. (no nuts or pork)

Animal Invasion – English

This hands-on, interactive program, invades the classroom with real-life, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, arachnids and birds. Kids have fun through games, quizzes and prizes while they observe and learn about some animals with which we share our planet. Students can have their picture taken with their favourite Reptizoo animal and they can also keep a piece of reptile skin as a souvenir. Knitting – Bilingual Join us as you learn to knit for the first time or as you perfect your knitting skills! Knitting is a great hobby that lasts a lifetime. We will introduce you to the basic techniques of knitting (knit, purl, cast on, bind off) and guide you through a project of your choice. Students will have to purchase basic supplies.

MultiMedia Art with Tamsin

Please note: Instructor will contact all registrants to confirm day & time for all music classes. All individual courses are adapted to the needs and capability of each child and include comprehensive theory instruction.

Children will explore color, layering and sculpture by experimenting with different materials. Emphasis will be on learning to think spatially and creatively through observation of the surroundings and converting those observations to imaginative design. Observation skills are developed mostly through compositional skills through collage & printmaking; and color juxtaposition through painting. Program inspired by the vibrant color of Wassily Kandinsky!

Students can play quiet games, read, or work on their homework, under the watchful eye of Wendy Brunet. Primarily aimed at non-daycare students taking the later-start Impact Soccer, as well as those needing supervision during the transition period between dismissals of intermediate basketball, Piano, Guitar, Ukulele & pickup. Class is also open to non-daycare siblings or fellow car-poolers of these students. Mandatory registration for the following students: non-daycare students who wish to stay at the school before their later-starting ECA class (Impact Soccer, Running Club, Intermediate Hip-hop, Intermediate Basketball) non-daycare students not able to be picked up directly after any ECA class.

Junior Soccer with Nick DeSantis - Bilingual Running Club - Bilingual Nick DeSantis of the Montreal ImpactTM will be offering a soccer session for youngsters! Whether it is the first time your child plays soccer or not, don’t miss out on this opportunity to learn form a home-grown talent!!

We are hitting the road again! Fall is a great time of year for outdoor running and kids are natural runner. Running is an accessible sport that gives kids the opportunity to explore their athleticism, set goals, work hard and enjoy a team. It also teaches them about treating their bodies well and having active fun. Your child may even develop, a life-long love of the sport! This class takes place outside so plan to dress appropriately.
