“WHILST addressing certaindiplomats, Pres. Jacob Zumaremarked that the quality oflife in South Africa has mark-edly improved since the ANCcame into power. This state-ment is not only misleading, but could in some instances beconsidered a downright lie.”This is the opinion of

Theunis Botha, leader of theChristian Democratic Party.“If it is true that SouthAfrica

has a ‘visionary foreign poli-cy’,why is it that experts blamethe blunders our diplomats of-ten make on a lack of vision

and policy? We also feel thatthe remarks on the improve-ment of quality of life are an ab-solute insult to the millionswho are unemployed, thosewho live in squatter camps, those who are discriminatedagainst because of the colour oftheir skin, and those who havesuffered because of crime.”Botha said the president ob-

HADIYO MOLOI, the assistantmanager of Welfare Services at theDepartmentofSocialDevelopment inBethlehem, has urged parents to stopsending their kids to buy alcohol andcigarettes.

“In most cases children regardtheir parents as role models and theywould assume that everything theyare doing is right. If they drink andsmoke near their kids, their childrenwould end up doing the same,” shesaid.

Moloi said this during the Bethle-hem Social Development’s Child Pro-

tection Week which was held in theBaken Park Hall in Bethlehem.

Child Protection Week was cele-brated with the children of the day-care centres in Bohlokong, Bethle-hem.

According to Moloi the celebrationwas aimed at creating awarenessamong the little ones and their par-ents about child abuse and their con-stitutional rights.

She said they also taught the par-ents that they should protect theirchildren at all costs.

“We invited thekids of theday-carecentres so that they could start learn-ing about their rights at this young

age. It is winter now and we wantedto teach them that they should notburn theveld, because it is dangerousto play with fire,” she said.

Moloi said they had heard of manycases in the location where a childhadburntahouseorvelddown whileplaying with fire.

“They should know how to protectthemselves against the abuse in thelocation. Iwashappywith thepartici-pation of the kids and that was a clearindication to us that the matronswere doing their job. It is not only theresponsibility of women to take careof the children, but the fathers shouldalso play their part,” she said.

BAFANA BAFANA midfielder ReneilweLetsholonyane says Sunday’s 2014 FIFAWorld Cup qualifier against Ethiopia willbe a “hell of a game”, but insists the teamis ready to do the job.

Gordon Igesund’s team produced apolished performance as they beat CentralAfrican Republic (CAR) 3-0 in a 2014 WorldCup qualifier in Yaounde, Cameroon, onSaturday.

However, Yeye says the big test comes inAddis Ababa this weekend.

“We have to beat Ethiopia; there are notwo ways about it.

“I had a feeling they were going to winin Botswana, because they are a strongerside, but then that is good because itmeans we have to do the business our-selves and not depend on the next team tohelp us qualify.

“It is as simple as that. We have to beatEthiopia and top the group before we playour last qualifier against Botswana athome.

“But this one is going to be moredifficult, because it is an away game in thetrue sense of the word and with all theirsupporters behind them; it is going to beone hell of a game.

“We have to work extra hard to get thepoints as this is mostly likely to be thegroup decider.

“Whoever loses will have to playcatch-up and with only one match remain-ing, it is going to be very hard, if notimpossible.

“If we lose this match, we have todepend on CAR to stop Ethiopia whenwe play Botswana, and that is not theideal situation we want to find ourselvesin.”

They advanced to the final stage of the SABLeague provincial finals after they had knockedout Sasolburg Juventus and Mighty Wits ofBethlehem respectively. CUT beat Juventus by3-2 on penalties after the teams had played to anentertaining 3-3 draw, while Real Hearts sentMighty Wits, who was the favourite, packing.

The final was a bit slow with both teams look-ing tired as players went down often sufferingfromcramps.Thegameended 0-0withCUTwin-ning on penalties by 4-3.

Teboho Ramakoa, the CUT head coach, saidthe tournament was tight and added that it wasa real test for his youthful team.

“We played well in the first game, but we lostfocus in the game and we ended winning it inthe penalties,” he said.

Ramakoa said they had a three year plan. Hesaid they initially finished third on the log andthen second last season before winning it thisseason.

Jim Madlakhazela, who has been helping theRealHeartsafter thecoachresigned, saidhewas

THE fuel efficiency campaign which formspart of the 2010 Green Goal Programme en-courages motorists to drive more efficiently.Smooth, steady driving and lower speeds

reduce fuel consumption and result in fewervehicle emissions – for every litre of fuel youuse, your car generates about 2,4 kg of CO2.

Top tips) Service your vehicle regularly to ensurebest fuel economy. Correctly maintained cars

can operate more efficiently and help reduceCO2 emissions.) Check your tyre pressure monthly. Under-inflated tyres can increase fuel consumptionby up to 40%.) Ensure that there are no holes in the vehi-cle’s exhaust.) Remove unnecessary weight from your ve-hicle.The heavier the car, the more fuel it con-

sumes.

) Close your windows at higher speeds andremove empty roof racks. This will reducewind resistance and can lower your fuel con-sumption by up to 10%.) Use air conditioning sparingly. Unneces-sary use increases fuel consumption and CO2emissions by up to 5%.) Reduce idling. If you are going to stop formore than 60 seconds, turn off your vehicle’sengine.) Avoid speeding and drive smoothly. In-

creasing your speed from 100 km/h to 120 km/h can increase your fuel consumption by 20%.) Change to the highest gear as early as possi-ble.) Anticipate traffic flow in order to avoid un-necessary stopping and starting.) Walk, cycle, carpool or make use of publictransport.Fewer cars on the road means less conges-

tion and therefore less stop-start traffic(which wastes fuel).

with the Rhino boys struggling to puttheir foot down. They were punishedearly in the first half as Motsoenengbroke the ice when he pulled the trig-ger inside the six-yard box. This wasafter the opponents’ defence failed toclear the ball.Just two minutes after the goal was

scored, Ace equalised with a thunderstrike.A few minutes before the interval,

Pappilion’s defence failed to deal witha high ball which ended up on Tsotet-si’s foot and he coolly converted thechance with the keeper at his mercy tomake the score 2-1.Pappilion came out like a team on a
