King Henry VII hears about Columbus and sends out explorers

John Cabot- first from England-- believed he could find quicker route- West from England

1st Voyage found Newfoundland

2nd found North America as far south as Delaware

Francis Drake

Queen Elizabeth I produced new English explorer

“Sea Dogs”

plundered, or stole from Spanish shipping while they explored new territory

Drake sailed around the world steeling from Spanish but never found route to the Indies

The Southen Colonies Roanoke Colony

Queen Elizabeth sent Sir Walter Raleigh to set up colony in North Carolina (1584)

a ship dropped them off and the Spanish attacked England, 2 years later when the shipped returned the colony had vanished
