Jungle Explorers Series at a Glance for Kid‐O‐Deo (continued)

Lesson 1: Faithfulness When Joshua marched into the Promised Land, he expected to need tools like a sword and a shield. First, God had Joshua use a much greater tool, the fruit of faithfulness. When God gave Joshua a strange command, Joshua had to choose between trusting God and doing what seemed right to him. Joshua’s choice shows us what it means to be faithful no matter what. Lesson 2: Patience Sometimes the hardest thing you’ll do is to not do anything. Waiting for something can make a minute feel like an hour and a day feel like a year. This week, the story of Hannah will show us something important about patience. While waiting for a baby, she continued to trust God. Hannah shows us that having patience for God’s timing is always worth the wait. Lesson 3: Self‐Control Daniel was one of many men captured by King Nebuchadnezzar and brought to work the city of Babylon. But Daniel stood out from the others. Everyone else was eating the delicious foods presented by the king, but Daniel and his friends did something different. In this week’s story, Daniel shows us the power of self‐control. Lesson 4: Kindness/Goodness/Gentleness There are many examples of Jesus using the fruits of kindness, goodness, and gentleness. One of those times was on a day when Jesus had sailed across a sea and was met by a large crowd. We’ll see what happens when Jesus meets a sick girl’s father and a group of heartbroken people. Jesus’ actions in this story tell us about three powerful fruits of the spirit. Lesson 5: Peace In the Bible, we can read about Jesus going off to places by himself to talk to God. Even though Jesus loved helping people, he knew that making time for peace and spending time with God was important too. During a huge storm out on the water, Jesus demonstrated what it can look like to have true peace—the kind of peace that only comes from God. Lesson 6: Love/Joy This week, we’ll hear a story Jesus told about how powerful love can be. It’s about a lost son and the love his father had for him. When we have love, it’s that much easier to have true joy—another fruit! God loves each of us so much, and he wants us to joyfully share that love with others. We’ll learn how we can do that this week in Kid‐O‐Deo!

Welcome 2:00 Hi Kid‐Os! Welcome to Kid‐O‐Deo! My name is _____________, and I’m so excited to see each and every one of you here! We will be singing some songs, learning a Bible Memory Verse, and hearing an awesome story. Before we do any of that, let’s go over the rules we have in Kid‐O‐Deo. Do any of you know how many we have? THREE! That’s right, so let’s get started!

Rule #1: When I’m talking, you are listening! Everyone put on your listening ears, and on the count of three, let’s practice listening! Rule #2: Keep your hands and feet to yourself! Do a little clap and place your hands in your lap! Rule #3: Stay in your spot! Let’s take our special glue sticks and put some glue on our spot to help us stay in the right place!

Now that we know the rules, we’re ready to have so much fun together. Today we are going to be jungle explorers!

Do This: Point to some of the jungle items on the stage.

Here in the jungle over the last five weeks, we’ve been exploring something called the “Fruit of the Spirit.” The Fruit of the Spirit is not something you eat like grapes or watermelon. This fruit is what God calls some of the good things he gives us when we follow him and his Son, Jesus. We’ve already learned about seven fruits. If you think you remember some of the fruits, you can help me say them out loud. We’ve learned about peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self‐control!

There are two fruits left for us to learn about, so we’ll be talking about the fruits of love and joy today. When we use love, we are showing others we care about them. And we can use joy to show that we are happy and excited about things…like how much God loves us!

When we use love, joy, and the other fruits that God gives us, it can help us make wise choices and live our lives for God! Can you repeat these words after me? I can be who God made me to be. I CAN BE WHO GOD MADE ME TO BE. Awesome!

Do This: Have kids help direct you to the mailbox. You can make this silly by pretending you can’t find it. Once you’ve found it, open up the mailbox and take out the weekly letter. Read the letter out loud. The content is below for your reference.

It looks like our first activity is to go on an adventure...a Bible Adventure!

Kid‐Os, are the words and the stories in the Bible real or pretend? REAL! That is right. The Bible is God’s true Word, so we know Jesus really told the story you are about to hear. This story comes from the Bible, but we’re going to read it from our storybook which is full of fun pictures. Let’s get started!

Do This: Have kids help you “turn” the pages on the screen with an exaggerated arm wave throughout the story.

Once there was a man who had two sons. The younger son did not want to live at home anymore. He wanted to leave and explore new things. So, the son asked his dad for some of their family’s money. The dad gave his son what he wanted.

Once the son had the money, he gathered up all of his things and left to go to another country. The son did whatever he wanted to do and started to spend his money on all sorts of things. But soon, his money was gone. He had spent it all! Does that sound like a very wise thing for this boy to do? NO!

The son needed a job, so he found work feeding pigs. The son didn’t even have enough money to buy his own food, but he was so hungry that he was willing to eat same yucky food that he gave to the pigs. The son became very sad. Can you make a sad face? He wanted to go home, but he was worried that his dad would be mad at him for leaving and spending all of his money.

The son thought that if he went home, maybe his dad would let him work as a servant. That would be way better than feeding pigs and not having food to eat! So, the son began to travel back home. While the son was still a long way away, his father saw him coming. The father ran to meet him, and he hugged and kissed him. He still loved his son very much!

The father was so joyful that his son was home, and he threw a big party to celebrate! The father said, “My son was lost, but now he is found!” The dad showed love to his son, and that made both of them really happy and joyful. God is like the dad in this story. He loves us so much, and when we choose to follow Jesus, it makes Him so joyful! Following Jesus can help us have the fruits of love and joy in our lives too.

Awesome job listening to our story, Kid‐Os! We completed the first activity by going on our Bible Adventure. That means we earned a fruit card!

Do This: Remove the “#1” from the first box and replace it with the apple card.

We’re going to earn more fruit cards and learn how we can be loving and joyful, but right now, we have to practice something. What do you think it’s time for us to practice? OUR MEMORY VERSE!

Remember, we’re trying to earn fruit cards by learning about a very special kind of fruit…the Fruit of the Spirit! Let’s look inside box number two to see if there’s something to help us learn more about this fruit.

Do This: Take the party hat out from box #2 and hold it up.

It’s a party hat! I think this means we’re supposed to talk about our Bible Adventure because the dad in the story threw a party for his son when he came home. Do you remember what fruits the dad showed to his son? LOVE AND JOY! That’s right. Now I have another question for you. Do any of you like going to parties like maybe a friend’s birthday party or a party at your school? YEAH! Parties can be so much fun, and they can bring us a lot of joy. But did you know that you can have joy even when you’re doing things that you don’t like? Maybe you don’t like cleaning up your toys or getting ready for bed. There will always be things in life that you don’t really like doing, but you can still be joyful because no matter what, God loves you and he is there for you. When you follow God and have the Fruit of the Spirit in your life, it’s kind of like you always have a party hat on because you can be joyful all the time! You know what? We earned our second fruit card by talking about joy and the Bible Adventure!

We still need two more fruit cards, so let’s see what’s in the next box!

Do This: Take the problem picture out from box #3 and hold it up.

Jack is sledding with his sister, and she falls off her sled. How could Jack show love to his sister? Choice #1: Keep sledding and ignore her. Choice #2: Go give her a hug, ask if she’s OK, and get a grown‐up to help.

All right friends, which is the better choice? Number one or two? TWO! That’s right! Giving people hugs and caring for others are great ways to show love! You know what? By talking about the problem picture, we earned our third fruit card!

Do This: Take the giant banana out from box #4 and hold it up.

What is this? A BANANA! Yes, it’s a giant banana with a note that says to “Peel, Eat, and Go Bananas!”

Do This: In the following paragraph, demonstrate the “peel, eat, and go” bananas actions for the kids. Be exaggerated and silly in your movements. After you shout “Let’s Go Bananas,” just dance like crazy for about 10 seconds or until the music stops.

All right Kid‐Os, follow along with us if you’re not sure what to do. First, look around and listen to the noises in the jungle! Can you make a monkey sound? Now reach up and grab a banana from a tall banana tree. OK Kid‐Os, peel your bananas! Keep peeling! Ready to eat your banana? Nom nom nom! Now it’s time to go bananas, which means we’re going to dance like crazy! Don’t forget to stay in your spot. Everyone stand up, but be ready to sit back down when the music stops. Let’s…Go…BANANAS! Great job, Kid‐Os! You can sit down. We earned our last fruit card! This one was probably just for fun, but we love having fun here in Kid‐O‐Deo!

God loves it when we talk to him! While we’re praying, please be respectful of God and others. You can fold your hands in your lap and close your eyes so you are only thinking about the words you are saying to God. If you want, you can echo the words for the prayer after me.
