City Palace

Amber Fort

The official residence of the royalty of Jaipur City, Amber Fort issituated 11 kilometers outside the city. The intricate work of glassand mirror in the interiors of the palace is breathtaking. It isinteresting to know that the interiors of this palace is made out ofonly marble and red sandstone!

Jantar Mantar

Built By Maharaja Jai Singh II, Jantar Mantar is one of the largestobservatories in India. Listed as UNESCO’s world heritage site, theJantar Mantar at Jaipur has the world’s largest sun dial. It isinteresting to know that it is 90 meters tall and the shadow movesroughly the width of a person’s palm every minute.

Hawa Mahal

Built by Raja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799, Hawa Mahal was built for the royal women to witness the processions on the market streets without they being seen. This beautifully designed palace has 953 intricately designed windows.

Jaigarh Fort

Built in 1726, Jaigarh Fort is a real fortress so to say! Ithouses the world’s biggest cannon on wheels which wasnever really used. It is a treat for those who are interested inthe wars of Medieval India.

Ranthambore National Park

GaltaJi

Situated about 10 kms away from the city of Jaipur, Galtaji is a holypilgrimage site which has 7 water tanks or “kunds” of fresh watersprings. Amongst these, Galta Kund is said to be the holiest whichnever goes dry.

Govind Dev Ji

Situated in the City Palace Complex, Govindji Temple is veryfamous amongst pilgrims. It is said that the image of Lord Krishnain the temple looks exactly the same as he looked at the time of hisincarnation on earth.

Interesting Fact: The Govindji Temple was built in such a way thatthe king could see the image of Lord Krishna from his residence,i.e. “The Chandar Mahal”.

Elephant Festival

Organized every year on the full moon day of Phalgun Purnima, ElephantFestival is one of its kind. It is celebrated one day before Holi and is in thehonour of Lord Ganesha who is said to be the remover of obstacles.

Royal elephants are groomed and nicely decked up for the event. Manycompetitions like tug of war, Elephant polo and Elephant Race are held.

It is held by Rajasthan Tourism and visitors from all over the world come towatch this event.

Kite Festival

Held on 14th January every year, the Kite Festival is held to celebrate the Northward Journey of the Sun or “Uttarayan”. The day is also called Makar Sankranti and marks the transition of the Sun from Dhanu Rashi to Makara Rashi.

On this day, people take the holy dip in Galta Ji and pray to Sun God for good health, wealth and crop. Kites are flown all over the city with competitions held.

Food in Jaipur also exhubes royalty with generous use of desi ghee,butter, milk and flour. Food is spicy and is relished all over thecountry.

The famous Rajasthani speciality, Dal Baati Churma is Dal, LentilCurry, served with Baati, flour balls baked on fire and coal.Choorma is a sweet dish made of ghee, jaggery and flour. It isconsidered a wholesome meal in Rajasthan.
