• The BICT is a four year, eight semester (Full-Time) programme • Students must complete 480 credits to meet the degree requirements.

• The first two years concentrate on developing students fundamental technical skills. Because the

courses are delivered in English there is a high level of English support in these first two years. During this phase, students cover a broad selection of core IT subjects, including Networking, Databases, Programming and Computer Architecture.

• At the end of year two, students will have the required knowledge to be able to choose their specialization in one of the offered programmes. The BICT programmes are designed to provide graduates with a choice of specialization within a common framework of IT competency.

• A graduate may complete the BICT degree without any specialization.

8

What type of skills do student develop during the first and second year?

When can a students choose their

major in the BICT Program?

Page 9: Explore BICT

• During year three students apply their fundamental knowledge to advanced courses related to their major such as: Database Programming, Mobile- Computing, E-Commerce, Cloud Computing, Networks Security, Mobile Networking …etc.

• BICT students concentrate on applying their technical skills and knowledge to solve real world problems with technology services. The emphasis moves towards hands-on, practical projects.

9

What courses do students study

during the third year in BICT?

Page 10: Explore BICT

• During years four students will undertake two types of projects – In-House PROJECT: in this course students develop an IT product

either proposed by the BICT faculty, partners, external clients, or by the students themselves. The project is supported by IT Project Management, Technical Writing and English Communications workshops. Students are assigned an office and a supervisor to simulate a real work placement environment.

– COOPERATIVE LEARNING PROJECT (Internship): in this project students develop an IT product or complete tasks for a work-placement. Students are assigned an academic supervisor and a mentor from the work-placement who guide them through their work placement.

YouTube, Facebook and Moodle are examples of software services that rely on databases to store information. This information takes the form of videos, pictures, sounds, likes, comments and much more. Organizations such as airlines , banks, academic institutions , businesses, ministries and governments also rely on databases to store information.

Database systems are a critical component of modern ICT Infrastructure. The database major in the BICT programme introduces students to a range of database topics and equips them with the skills relevant to the ICT Industry. Students will learn about database systems including Oracle, Microsoft SQL server and MySQL and use these to build desktop, Mobile and internet-aware software applications.

Typical positions for the Database Systems major graduate include:

• Database Designer

• Database Programmer

• Database Administrator

Graduates in this major earn a degree of:
