Introduction

The purpose of this manual is to provide an introduction to identify and view the files that have been altered on an Experion MX/MX Proline system.

About This Manual This manual contains 2 chapters;

Chapter 1: Launching QCS Specials Finder Tool, describes how to launch the QCS Specials Finder Tool.

Chapter 2: Altered Files Backup, describes backing up of all the files listed in Altered files.

Conventions The following conventions are used in this manual:

Text may appear in uppercase or lowercase except as specified in these conventions. Boldface Boldface characters in this special type indicate your input. Special Type Characters in this special type that are not boldfaced indicate system prompts,

Italics In a command line or error message, words and numbers shown in italics represent filenames, words, or numbers that can vary; for example, filename represents any filename. In text, words shown in italics are manual titles, key terms, notes, cautions, or warnings.

Type Type means to type the text on a keypad or keyboard. Press Press means to press a key or a button. [ENTER] or [RETURN]

[ENTER] is the key you press to enter characters or commands into the system, or to accept a default option. In a command line, square brackets are included; for example: SXDEF 1 [ENTER]

[CTRL] [CTRL] is the key you press simultaneously with another key. This key is called different names on different systems; for example, [CONTROL], or [CTL].

[KEY-1]-KEY-2 Connected keys indicate that you must press the keys simultaneously; for example, [CTRL]-C.

Click Click means to position the mouse pointer on an item, then quickly depress and release the mouse button. This action highlights or “selects,” the item clicked.

Double-click Double-click means to position the mouse pointer on an item, and then click the item twice in rapid succession. This action selects the item “double-clicked.”

Drag X Drag X means to move the mouse pointer to X, then press the mouse button and hold it down, while keeping the button down, move the mouse pointer.

Press X Press X means to move the mouse pointer to the X button, then press the mouse button and hold it down.

The attention icon appears beside a note box containing information that is important.

The caution icon appears beside a note box containing information that cautions you about potential equipment or material damage.

The warning icon appears beside a note box containing information that warns you about potential bodily harm or catastrophic equipment damage.

1. Launching QCS Specials Finder Tool

1.1. About the QCS Specials Finder Tool The QCS Specials Finder Tool (QCS SFT) is a tool that can be used to identify and view the files that have been modified on an Experion MX/MX Proline system. It is a standard feature available in Experion MX R700 release.

This tool tracks the changes done to the standard Experion MX/MX Proline install folders.

After launching the QCS Specials Finder Tool, it displays the below details:

1. A list of the altered files in the standard install folders

2. A list of the files in the specials folders

The information provided by this tool can be used to evaluate the changes done to the files in the system over a period of time. This information is useful during the migration to a newer update/release in future.

NOTE: This tool is not supported for the releases before to Experion MX R700.

1.2. Getting started with QCS Specials Finder Tool

The QCS Specials Finder Tool compares the current list of files available in installed folders with the files which are in Baseline List. After detecting the differences, the tool creates Exception List. This exception list is used to detect the modified files in the system.

The Experion MX installer creates the Baseline List of files at the final step of the installation process. QCS SFT uses this baseline list for future comparisons. The baseline list is updated and recalibrated for the following scenarios.

1. When CDMV and MDCS is installed

2. When a maintenance or point release is installed.

3. When a mass compile is done.

This is done because of the file changes happens due to the above actions. This should not be flagged as modified files, as they are deployed as part of a standard installer.

1.3. Launching QCS Specials Finder Tool To launch QCS Specials Finder Tool perform the below steps:

1. Click Start > Experion MX Engineering Tools > QCS Specials Finder Tool.

The QCS Specials Finder Tool progress bar appears.

2. This tool takes 20-25 minutes to launch as it has to identify the files in all the install folders that are altered.

NOTE: The user can perform other activities on the system when the tool is running in the background.

3. After identification of the altered files, the QCS Specials Finder Tool window appears.

4. The QCS Specials Finder Tool window contais two tabs:

a. Project Specials tab: This tab displays the project specials files from the C:\ProgramData\Honeywell\Experion MX\Database\Config folder.

b. Altered Files tab: This tab displays the altered (added, modified and deleted) files from the standard install folder. Any files in the standard install folders that is altered are listed here.

2. Altered Files Backup

The QCS Specials Finder Tool takes back up of all the files listed in Altered files tab. After back up all the altered files are stored in single folder. This is helpful for migration process.

The backed up files are available in C:\ProgramData\Honeywell\Experion MX\Database\AlteredFilesBackup folder.
