Experimental Measurement of Fishing Lure Motion Nate Marks 5-6-09
description
This presentation was given as summary of a course project in and experimental stress analysis class at the University of Minnesota. For the project, Nate mounted four strain gages on a fishing rod and then collected strain profiles in the rod when different lures were attached to the end of the line. The intent of the project was to set up a measurement system to collect data on some complex event that cannot easily be modeled mathematically. The measured strain profiles in the rod were representative of the motion of the different fishing lures. The results from this particular experiment showed that the period of lure motion was independent of the length of the lure. This type of measurement system could be valuable in the development of new fishing lures and also in competitive testing of existing lures.
