Why Tranquileyes™?

Industry studies, including The International Workshop on Meibomian Gland Dysfunction, have shown applying effective moist-heat to the eyelids is beneficial for all levels of MGD. The key is having controlled heat (89–108°F, 31.67-42.22°C), duration (up to 20 minutes) and moisture to effectively melt the meibum while hydrating and relaxing the sensitive eyelid skin.

Our Tranquileyes™ goggles, when combined with pure warm water and our reusable gel pack technologies, allow patients to create soothing moist-heat compresses, ranging in temperature from 101–110°F/38.33-43.33°C and lasting up to 25 minutes.

Moist-Heat and Cold Technologies

The Tranquileyes™ system incorporates two reusable gel pack technologies to create moist-heat therapies and cold therapies. Both technologies have been proven to effectively improve tear quality by providing the intensity and duration of heat required while hydrating the sensitive eyelid and surrounding skin. We measure gram weight of our gel packs to ensure they achieve optimum performance.

Beads

The Beads are made from glycerin and water. The Beads create moist-heat by being warmed in hot water. Moisture to increase relative humidity is provided by a fabric pocket which the Beads are placed into before being submersed in water and heated in the microwave. Once heated, the pocketed Beads are placed into the back of the goggle where they provide 12-25 minutes of moist-heat ranging 101–110°F/38.33-43.33°C. Each set of Beads can be reused approximately 60 times for moist-heat. They can also be placed in the freezer for creating cold therapies.

Instant

The Thermoeyes Instant are made from sodium acetate, a non-toxic, food grade salt water. The Instant gel packs have a stainless steel disc inside. Heat is created by bending the stainless steel disc back and forth. The sound created by clicking the disc, changes the molecular structure from liquid to crystal, generating heat. Once activated, the gel pack is placed into the back of the goggle along with a moistened sponge, providing 15-25 minutes of moist-heat ranging from 102–110°F/38.89–43.33°C. The Instant technology can be reused up to 100 times for moist-heat. To reuse, the Instant gel packs need to be boiled in a continuous rolling boil between 3-5 minutes. The Instant technology can also be placed in the freezer (in their liquid state) to create cold therapies.

Made from silicone, the Onyix and Quartz offer patients another nighttime shelter option. They rest inside the orbital bone and gently keep leaking air and drafts out while creating a humid environment during rest. The Onyix and Quartz are available with the secure strap (recommended for use with the CPAP) or with our standard head wrap. The shields are hypoallergenic and latex free.

Sleep Apnea, a serious and common disorder affects more than 18 million Americans. One widely prescribed treatment is the use of a CPAP mask. Many of these masks are worn snugly over nose and mouth, to provide a continuous pressurized flow of air into the sleeper’s throat. The increased air pressure prevents the airways from collapsing. Although the CPAP provides much needed relief to sleep apnea sufferers, it has side effects. For many, the mask leaks air at night, causing eye dryness, discomfort and disruptions in sleep. This is of significant concern for any CPAP users who have ocular exposure issues.

Designed specifically for use with CPAP’s, the Eyeseals™ are skin soft and made from a food-grade thermal plastic. The orbit cavity is deep enough to allow for comfortable blinking. A protective ridge has been added above the nose to further improve patient comfort by preventing the CPAP mask from chaffing skin. The Eyeseals™ are hypoallergenic and latex free.

Tranquileyes™ Moisture Release Eyewear offers patients a new level of dry eye and allergy relief. Developed and patented by a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, the Moisture Release Eyewear incorporates an ingenious technology to stabilize the tear film, improve visual acuity and ease symptoms of eye dryness, redness and fatigue.

Comfort Wherever You Are

The stylish, lightweight frames utilize two removable vented cartridges which serve as a reservoir. The cartridges are soaked in water then placed into the side of the frame. A comfortable thermal plastic gasket and bendable nose bridge seal the area around the eyes, protecting them from wind, dust and pollen.

When eyewear is worn, the water from the cartridges evaporate, increasing the relative humidity around the eyes, helping to stabilize the tear film. The therapeutic environment minimizes dry eye symptoms, improves comfort, reduces fatigue and improves visual acuity – indoors and out. The polycarbonate lenses are coated with anti-fog for maximum comfort and all sunglasses provide 100%, UVA and UVB protection.
