Our Model

Inspired by 2009 program for Michigan Writing Project teachers at Michigan State University: we’ll have a six-day residential seminar hosted first in Kalamazoo at Western Michigan University in Summer, 2011.

Participants•2 TC’s from each of Michigan’s eleven writing projects;

•22 members each summer in our seminar;

•Each NWPM site will select participants from its local pool of TC’s;

•Members become part of state-wide Holocaust Educators of Michigan Network;

•These 2-person teams will begin to build local, site-based leadership;

•This idea/model was proposed to leaders from all 11 NWPM sites in November!

Key Experiences for Seminar

•Common Reading (The World Must Know)•Holocaust Survivor Testimony;•Guest Lectures/Experts on Holocaust, Judaism, Social Justice;•Visit to Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills;•Writing, Reflection, & Synthesis Opportunities;•Cultural Immersion Opportunities: Shabbat, Muslim Center, etc.•Partnership Building (Museum, etc.)•Networking Building

Seminar Goals•Build Local Capacity at all Eleven NWMP Sites;

•Create Network of Teachers in Michigan doing this work;

•Identify and Provide Resources for Teachers in Michigan;

•Foster Relationships with Michigan Partners
