CAUTIONS, WARNINGS AND HAZARDS

CAUTIONS, WARNINGS AND HAZARDSINTRODUCTIONThis manual was prepared as a "how-to-guide" for installers, end-users and mainte-nance personnel. It is also intended toeducate both owner (purchaser) and allindividuals working around the unit, ofpotential hazards.

With proper installation and maintenance, conveyors are essential for achieving avariety of functions essential in today’sindustrial marketplace. By following a simple, periodic maintenance schedule, thelife of a typical conveyor (or, most any typeof machinery--including our automobiles!)will increase when compared to a similar

unit in an application receiving little or no maintenance. You may find that a conveyor can become your best workplacefriend by following simple safety guide-lines. Failure to follow even the mostbasic safety suggestions can result in serious personal injury.

Conveyors contain many moving parts--pulleys, belting, chains, sprockets, shafts, rollers, etc. Therefore, it is imperative tobecome familiar with basic unit operationand know all points of potential hazards.

Remember, when working around or near

conveyors (and any industrial machinery) it is your responsibility to become familiarwith the unit, to know potential hazards(many are noted with caution labels) andto operate unit in strict accordance with thesafety guidelines in this manual.

Keep this manual in a safe place for futurereference. It should be placed whereappropriate personnel may maintain proper maintenance and records.

This manual must be read by all newusers before operating or working nearthis unit.

Before conveyor is placed into operation, all operators andother personnel coming in contact with conveyor must be

properly trained and must have read accompanying Tech Handbook.

Never move flexible conveyor by holding ANY part of conveyorother than handles. Handles are provided at both ends and

both sides of flexible conveyors.

DO NOT wear loose clothing or unprotected long hair aroundflexible conveyors, powered conveyors or machinery with mov-

ing parts.

When flexible conveyor is being moved, set up or when convey-or is being adjusted by expanding or contracting overall unit

length, keep hands, clothing, long hair or other objects clear of scissorgrid framework on conveyor to avoid serious injury.

Never connect belt conveyors directly to gravity conveyors, flexi-ble conveyors, machinery or fixtures without using connector

brackets & pop out roller.

It is the responsibility of the customer and installation person-nel to supply and install net or mesh guarding on overhead

mounted conveyors to prevent product and/or debris from falling tofloor in areas where required.

Only trained personnel shall perform maintenance functions. Before maintenance operations are performed, shut conveyor

"OFF" and lock out power source to prevent unauthorized start-up.When maintenance is completed, only authorized personnel shall bepermitted to start conveyor following maintenance or other emer-gency shut-off.

DO NOT OPERATE BEFORE READING THIS MANUAL!KEEP IN SAFE PLACE--DO NOT DISCARD!

SAFETY INFORMATION / RECEIVING AND INSPECTIONIMPORTANT SAFETY GUIDELINES

Before uncrating, check quantity of itemsreceived against bill of lading to confirmthat all material has been received. Examine the condition of equipment todetermine if any damage has occurred.

Damage and/or shortage in shipmentshould be reported immediately to bothvendor and carrier. Obtain a signed damage report from carrier agent and

send copy to vendor. Do not repair anydamage before obtaining this report. For damaged shipments, consult factory todetermine if entire shipment must bereturned to Aftersort, Inc., for repair or if a new order should enter production toproduce a new, replacement shipment.

Carefully remove crating and look foressential components and specific

accessories that may have been boxed andattached (or 'banded') to crating material.Save all hardware for subsequent use byinstallation personnel.

It is possible that some items may becomeseparated from original shipment. Checkbill of lading (or, accompanying freightdocumentation) to ensure receipt of ALLunits ordered including ALL accessories.

SHORTAGES, DAMAGES, RETURNS AND UNCRATING

NOTE: Do not return goods to factorywithout prior, written return authorization.Unauthorized returns are subject to refusalat factory.

WARNING: All personnel coming in contact with this conveyor should be aware of the following safety guidelines BEFOREUSING OR WORKING AROUND CONVEYOR. NOTE: ALWAYS notify Aftersort Inc. whenever any conveyor is used in an application or condition other than was originally intended. Failure to notify Aftersort Inc. may allow conveyor to be operatedin a hazardous operating condition. Injuries resulting from negligence or violation of safety instructions hereby removesresponsibility of product liability claims from Aftersort Inc.

Do not operate conveyor with protective guards removed. This

includes chain guards, belt guards, snubroller guards, center drive guards and anyother safety guard.

Do not walk, ride, climb, or touchmoving parts on a conveyor in

operation.

Do not wear loose clothing or uncovered hair around conveyor.

Do not work near conveyor withoutknowing how & where to shut power

"OFF" and lock out power source.

Do not remove jammed product withconveyor running.

Do not replace parts or perform maintenance on conveyor, or moving

conveyor parts, without first shutting "OFF"power to conveyor and locking out powersource.

Do not connect gravity to poweredconveyor without safety gravity

connector brackets.

To prevent electrical shock, conveyormust be grounded, and have proper

electrical connections in accordance with federal, state, and local codes.

Safety pop out rollers in conveyorsinstalled above 7'-0" elevation must

be retained by guard rail, clips, etc. Safety

pop out rollers must be allowed to pop outwhen conveyors are installed at or below 7'-0" elevation.

It is the responsibility of conveyor end-user to comply with all safety

standards including OSHA and other federal, state, and local codes or regulations.Install protective guarding and other relatedsafety precautionary equipment to eliminatehazardous operating conditions which mayexist when two or more vendors supplymachinery for related use.

Any violation of above safety instructions hereby removes all

product liability claims from Aftersort Inc.

GENERAL INSTALLATION INFORMATIONSET-UP / CONNECTION OF INTERMEDIATE SECTIONS

WARNING: While moving, keephands, clothing, hair and other objectsclear of conveyor side bars to avoid serious injury.

Once initial inspection and uncrating arecompleted, unlock casters and move conveyor into actual operational area. UseONLY handles on each side of conveyor(located at each support) to moveextendible conveyor to open or "expand"conveyor. While moving, keep hands, clothing, hair and other objects clear ofconveyor side bars to avoid serious injury.

Once relocated, lock casters to secureextendible conveyor. Casters located onsecond set of supports from discharge endof conveyor may be locked.

If intermediate flexible sections require disassembly, re-assembly or replacementdue to damage or abuse, illustration abovedetails such replacement (see intermediatedetail). Typical connections on flexible

models feature coupling hooks (also shownin illustration above) to adjoin various bedsections.

To install, simply move adjoining sectionsinto position and rotate coupling hooksover rod on adjoining bed section.

Extendible conveyors are supported byadjustable supports with 5" dia. casters (6" dia. casters are supplied on OPTIONALload infeed tables). Casters may be supplied with brake to curtail conveyormovement when placed into operation.

Elevation to top of conveyor supports("legs") is preset at factory. No furtheradjustment should be required once unit is

placed into operation.

Confirm that conveyor supports are cor-rectly set. Close conveyor and confirm thatconveyor has a similarly descending slopethroughout all legs. Since support eleva-tion is preset at factory with fixed, boltedsupport design, adjustment to supportsshould NOT be required.

When visual support inspection is completed, open conveyor by using handles provided.

FLOOR SUPPORTS

WARNING: While moving, keephands, clothing, hair and other objectsclear of conveyor side bars to avoid serious injury.

MAINTENANCE SAFETY PRECAUTIONSBEFORE PERFORMING MAINTENANCE

MAINTENANCE AND FOLLOW-UP DETAILS

While performing maintenance do not wear loose clothing. Immediately report any hazardous conditions--sharp edges, pinch (or nip) points or other conditions that may result when several manufacturers supply machinery which may create operating hazards.

When using mechanical aids such as hoists, cables, or cranesexercise extreme caution to prevent damage to conveyors or otherintegrated machinery which may create a working hazard whenmaintenance is completed and units are in operation.

Clean up any spilled lubricants or other materials used in themaintenance process or those which may be deposited during unitoperation. Eliminating poor housekeeping practices increases unitefficiency while creating safer personnel working conditions.

After maintenance, conduct visual inspection to ensure that allsafety devices and guards have been replaced. Confirm that allunits are clear of tools, debris or other items. Before starting conveyor, check condition of flexible conveyor warning labels (see "WARNING LABELS" at front of handbook). If labels havebeen destroyed or are not clearly legible, contact Aftersort Inc. to receive replacement labels. Placement of warning labels is critical to avoid unauthorized unit operation which may result inhazardous working conditions for all related personnel coming incontact with conveyor.

One of the most important guidelines for maximizing conveyoroperation and personnel safety is to implement a regular mainte-nance schedule and train personnel on the appropriate needs ofthe specific unit.

Only trained personnel shall perform maintenance functions. Before maintenance operations are performed, conveyor must beshut "OFF" (if applicable) and disconnects locked in the "OFF"position to prevent unit from unauthorized start-up during mainte-nance. All personnel should be informed of the safety proceduresassociated with unit maintenance and performance.

Do not perform any work on conveyors or conveyor system whilein operation unless it is impossible to otherwise conduct adjust-ment, lubrication or other maintenance function. Only experi-enced, trained personnel possessing advanced hazards-trainingshould attempt such critical operations.

Only trained personnel shall perform maintenance functions. Before maintenance operations are performed, conveyormust be shut "OFF" and disconnects locked in the "OFF" position to prevent unit from unauthorized start-up.

Only trained personnel shall perform maintenance functions. When maintenance is completed, only authorizedpersonnel shall be permitted to start conveyor following maintenance or other emergency shut-off.

manufactured in the world today. However, even the most durableconveyors may be damaged when abused or neglected. Impactor "shock" loading will surely damage models not designed forsuch loading conditions.

mezzanines, etc., the best designed models are subject to additional maintenance. Floor supports must be monitored dailywhen used in such terrain to ensure that they are properly adjustedand that damaged component parts are immediately replaced topromote safe work environment.

Heavy fork truck traffic creates another notable hazard in locationswhere flexible conveyors are used. Monitor all flexible conveyorslocated near fork truck traffic and locate pylons or pillars to prevent damage to flexible conveyors.

Remember that conveying the product is NOT what causes themost damage to your flexible conveyor. Hazards, neglect and operator mis-use are responsible for the vast majority ofreplacement parts required to maintain your flexible conveyor.

Your expandable conveyor is one of the most durable flexible models

When expandable models are moved across uneven surfaces, floors,
