Etiologies, interpretation of laboratory results, and therapeutic strategies may vary substantially. This discussion will focus on these differences.

One of the more common abnormal presentations of disease in rabbits is a head tilt, which is often accompanied by nystagmus and circling. In this discussion, participants learn to differentiate between neurologic and vestibular head tilts, as well as how to identify and treat more common etiologies.

Keynote Speaker - Natalie Antinoff, DVM, ABVP (Avian) is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, after which she completed a small animal internship, and a residency in exotic pet medicine and surgery at the Animal Medical Center in New York. In 1997 she became a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners in Avian Practice, and opened Gulf Coast Avian and Exotics as part of Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. Being a part of a specialty group allows collaboration with many specialists to expand the level of care we are able to offer for exotic pets. She has authored chapters in several texts, and lectures nationally and internationally, and is also a consultant on the Veterinary Information Network board. Dr. Antinoff is an active member of many veterinary organizations, and in past years has served on the boards of the Association of Avian Veterinarians, American Board of Veterinary Practitioners, Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society, and Veterinary Laboratory Association. She has also been the recipient of the TVMA Non-traditional species practitioner of the year award in 2003, and the Association of Avian Veterinarians Speaker of the year in 2008.

Micah Kohles, DVM, MPA

Director of Veterinary Science and Outreach, Oxbow Animal Health, Murdock, NE

Dr. Micah Kohles earned his DVM from Kansas State University in 2001 and a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Nebraska-Omaha in 2010. Dr. Kohles practiced in Denver, CO at an 8 doctor small animal/exotic clinic for 2 years before returning to Lincoln, NE to work at the Nebraska Animal Medical Center and Lincoln Children’s Zoo. In November, 2006, Dr. Kohles joined Oxbow Animal Health as Director of Technical Services. He is an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Nebraska College of Veterinary Medicine, has worked with multiple zoological institutions and has done conservation work in Africa and Mongolia.

Outside the office, Dr. Kohles enjoys the company of his wife, Ashley, and two boys, Tegan and Kai. He enjoys anything outdoors, especially running, mountain biking, adventure racing, camping and canoeing when time allows. His passion for leadership and veterinary medicine has kept him active in the veterinary community where he is currently a member of the Nebraska Board of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery and has previously served on the board of directors for the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association and Lincoln Children’s Zoo. In addition, Dr. Kohles is currently education chair for the Association of Exotic Mammal Veterinarians and a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association’s Future Leaders Program.
