“Before the meeting, we selected 62 companies to talk
to, we met with all of them and are already in the process of
negotiating with 5 to work on several projects. . . . Some of the
major objectives for attending such annual meetings are to identify companies we want
to do business with, develop/expand business contacts and
receive answers to technical questions. Along these lines,
several companies had the right people in the right place and
stood out.”
Chris Szustkiewicz, MBA, PhDPresident, CK Regulatory & Compliance Associates Inc
With over 20,000 laboratory professionals and 700 exhibiting companies, this is the largest global clinical laboratory products and services exposition in the world. The AACC Annual Meeting & Clinical Lab Expo, now in its 66th year, is the world’s largest exposition of IVD Products and Services. No other show draws more laboratory professionals, distributors and manufacturers to one location.
• Attendees anticipate capital equipment purchases in excess of $1.7 billion within the next two years.
• Buyers, distributors and end users from 100 countries are represented.
• 60% of attendees hold management positions, with 25% holding titles of VP or higher.
• 70% of attendees play a role in the purchasing process.
• Attendees spend the majority of their time in the exhibit hall.
• 72% of attendees have management oversight of one or more functions or sites.
• 81% of clinical attendees play a major role in the acquisition of mainframe lab instrumentation and reagents.
• 69% of attendees do not attend any other tradeshow.
Chicago, a Top Destination for the World’s Most Prominent Medical and Scientific Meetings
432 laboratories,136 universities and higher education institutions, and 12 of the top-rated hospitals in the United States make Illinois home to one of the densest concentrations of medical research centers in the country. Chicago, the 3rd largest city in the United States, ranks among the country’s leading centers for medical training, research, health care and referral.
Home to 49 top pharmaceutical and health care companies, Chicago has become a hub for the industry. This critical mass of talent and research driven companies encourages innovation and cross-pollination. Anchoring the corridor are the massive headquarters complexes of three of the area’s largest companies: Baxter International Inc. and Walgreen Co. in Deerfield, and Abbott Laboratories in North Chicago. Their presence helped attract others, such as Hospira Inc., Akorn Inc., and the U.S. arms of Takeda Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd. and Astellas Pharma Inc., the largest and second-largest Japanese drugmakers, respectively.
O’Hare and Midway airports are serviced by over 50 different airlines offering more flights in and out of Chicago than any other city in the country making travel to and from the meeting easy for domestic and international participants. And, McCormick Place, the largest exhibition center in North America, has taken measures to make the exhibitor experience easier and more cost effective with the introduction of the new Exhibitor Bill of Rights and some key changes to labor policies and electrical rates.
