Tracing his life’s journey from regional Queensland to the big smoke and back, Thomas Spence’s work spans the range of abstracts, sweeping landscapes and urban night scenes.

Thomas’ intricate works capture the sense of wide open spaces and crowded inner-cities to reflect the duality of Australian life.

Beyond recycling... Christopher Trotter transforms scrap into sculpture

Creating iconic public artworks across Queensland since 1994, Christopher Trotter reveals his transformative process with this collection of intricate drawings, small sculptures, detailed and industrial objects from his Boonah studio.

Combining machinery from different times and functions, Trotter reshapes discarded metal into biomechanical sculptures and organic forms infused with energy, history, humour and personality.

Animated Steel is an exhibition of clever and unexpected artworks for all to enjoy and promotes creative recycling solutions for future generations.

A collection of contemporary prints in compact cases

Back by popular demand, Compact Prints showcases all new works by North Queensland artists alongside international printmakers.

Now in its fifth year, this biennial exhibition transforms each time to reveal new artists and their ever-changing printmaking styles. With no limits except size, the topics, textures and colours will inspire experimentation in a variety of print forms.

Compact Prints embraces traditional, non-toxic and technological methods and weaves together traditional and contemporary printmaking methods including relief, intaglio, serigraph and digital.

Interactive and informative, Snapshot! showcases Queensland’s best projects, spaces and resources for children’s playful and meaningful engagement in the visual arts

A hub of inspiration, Snapshot! offers regional communities access to great ideas, artworks and resources, and encourages local groups to develop their own children’s art projects. The whole community can participate in and learn from the delightful discoveries of this imaginative exhibition.

Designed by Queensland Arts Council in collaboration with artists, children and cultural organisations to support communities in producing their own quality children’s art projects.

Striking linocut prints by Indigenous printmakers

Murris in Ink is a collective of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island printmakers who live and work in the Townsville region.

The artists began printmaking workshops at Umbrella Studio in 2008 and gained recognition for their exhibits at the Cairns Indigenous Art Fair.

In preparation for this exhibition seven indigenous artists collaborated with master printer Ron McBurnie. The remarkable quality of the prints reflects their commitment to excellence and showcases exceptional skills, stories and a passion for printmaking.

Vast open grasslands, desert ochres, red ironstone rock and deep freshwater running beneath it all

12 artists from the Barcaldine, Aramac and Jericho regions reveal the rich diversity of life in Artesian Country. Captured in paintings, photography, sculpture and spoken word, this exhibition shares the personal stories of this stunning region.

Entertaining and enlightening, Artesian Country is a highly original ’virtual tour’ of the people, places and events of central western Queensland.

Workshops on developing your own community project and guest speaker Tom Lockie are available by request for your local exhibition events.

A mother’s journey to understand the inner world of her autistic son

Gladstone artist Melanie Jai’s whimsical paintings inspire understanding, compassion and acceptance for those affected by mental health issues.

Melanie’s highly stylised portraiture helps her reach the fairytale land of villains and heroes that her son so often retreats to.

The textural works engage viewers with words of honesty and wisdom to shine light on the strong emotions, chaos and confusion associated with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Monochromatic photographs capture this ancient and extraordinary human and animal relationship

Captivating black and white photographs depict the important place that horses hold in world history, art, culture and evolution.

Queensland photographer Glenn Hunt illustrates the pivotal role of the horse in Australian, European, Middle Eastern and Asian cultures with atmospheric imagery from Innamincka to Andalusia.

Intended to document rich horse cultures before they disappear, Hunt’s photographs portray the elegance and power of the horse and articulate the deep understanding and strong bonds between humans and horses.

Stark black and white portraits depict the struggle, hardships and obstacles faced by real people living and working in the Murray-Darling Basin.

The Dying Darling reveals the stoicism and strength of a community determined to not give up the fight to save the country they call home.

At once heartbreaking and uplifting, this exhibition of charcoal character sketches by Michael Pospischil with moving and insightful words by writer Sarah Moles will change your perception of regional Australian conservation.

10 artists immersed in the distinctive landscapes of far western Queensland

In the Channel Country west of Quilpie, with vast tracts of red dirt, open skies and coolibah trees, lies the Artist Camp of Bunginderry Station.

This series of paintings brings together artistic responses to the contrasting geological ecosystems of Bunginderry by a group of 10 artists, over the last five years.

Ochre, acrylic and oil paintings of river red gums, rock holes and Grey Range vistas offer a connection with the region’s arid, dramatic and ever-changing landscape.

A fusion of craft and literature celebrates one of the world’s most popular children’s books

Bundaberg artist Karen Walden shares her textile project inspired by Eric Carle’s classic book The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

Walden’s quilted rendition of this lovable tale of metamorphosis collages hand dyed fabrics, machine appliqué, paints and pencils to recreate the book’s vibrant colours and textures.

Ten colourful, larger-than-life pages, allow families to reconnect with and follow the story as the caterpillar eats its way through the pages to become a butterfly.

CANCELLATION

Cancellation fees apply if an exhibition is cancelled after confirmation of dates and finalisation of itineraries.

Cancellation will incur a $100 administration fee if an exhibition is cancelled after Queensland Arts Council has received the signed Confirmation Form.

Cancellation within six weeks of the exhibition date will incur a fee of 50% of the total exhibition fee.

THE PROCESS

Approximately one month after your request you will receive a Confirmation Form. This form needs to be returned by the due date to confirm your booking.

After your Confirmation Form has been received by QAC you will receive a confirmation by email.

An exhibition information kit will contain an invoice, tour manual, marketing material and transport details, and will be sent to your venue approximately six weeks prior to the arrival of your exhibition.
