Thoughts from our President, Gary Meyer, Prior Lake State Bank Can you believe it? August is here and so is Lakefront Days. Prior Lake is always known for its small town charm and community spirit. Lakefront Days is the grand daddy of events that help create this environment within our community. There are activities for all ages throughout the weekend. Thousands of people converge upon Lakefront Park and enjoy the events, the pleasure of visiting with friends and neighbors, strolling through the vendor booths, relaxing, and just being a community. Lots of people, too many to mention here, put in many hours to make this a special weekend, a very special Prior Lake week-end. Your Chamber of Commerce with the city of Prior Lake have put their best efforts forward to make this a great community event. I hope each of you enjoys this weekend as much as I do. Lakefront Days is now surrounded by two other wonderful events. I want to congratulate the Prior Lake Rotary Club for its fine efforts in hosting the 2nd annual Jazz Festival in July right here in our own Lakefront Park. Large crowds again converged upon our fine city and enjoyed its won-derful amenities. Another wonderful event follows Lakefront Days by a couple of weeks. That event being the SMSC Annual Wacipi (Pow Wow), this year, the event being held the weekend of August 19 - 21. This event brings in many people into our fine city to celebrate the heritage of the SMSC. If you have not taken the opportunity to attend this fine event, please do so this year, you will truly enjoy it. WOW!! That is THREE (3) major events in our community in a span of six weeks. Our community of Prior Lake is truly one we can be proud of. As business people we should be proud of as well. I encourage everyone to be part of that community pride, community spirit, and small town charm. Unfortunately after August, we all know what happens, school begins, days get shorter, nights cooler and so on. But let’s not let that dampen our community spirit. The Fall Community Fest and other great events will soon be upon us and many more activities as well. Enjoy this final month of summer and may your business continue to be prosperous as we head on into the holi-day season. And remember:

“Shop Local, Shop Often”

In closing for this month’s newsletter, as in previous months, I will ask each of you… are you get-ting the most out of the Prior Lake Chamber? If not, are you putting the most into it? Become ac-tive and SPONSOR of one our numerous events and get your business name recognized. If you can’t become a sponsor, become a VOLUNTEER and make yourself present at one or more of the events and meet people, talk to them, let them get to know you… and they will eventually become one of your clients.
