I’ve heard Bill give presentations when I

Halloween

Candy You may find, come November 1st, that you have leftover candy that you don’t know what to do with. Well, we have the answer (short of eating it all yourself)!

Bring it to the November 6th Meeting and Pat Tank will get it to the USO.

Tom Conrad clears the water hazard.

September 18th Meeting

The Program: The USO

Jackie Inman, Rock Island USO Center Director, was the guest speaker. While the first

USO Center was established in 1941, the Rock Island center is only 18 months old, thanks to the tireless efforts of Miss Inman, a military mom herself. The USO supports Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve men and women and their families by providing a variety of recreational, educational, and entertainment programs and support services.

The USO Rock Island Center is one of seven centers throughout Illinois that serves our troops. There are over 54,000 military and family members within the 100 mile Quad City service area who are eligible for services through USO. In its first year, Ms. Inman and volunteers served over 10,000 military personnel and their families. Ms. Inman is the only staff person at the Rock Island center and she says, "Volunteers are the backbone of our organization."

The USO receives no national funding and depends on the generosity of our community organizations, businesses, and individuals to help support its programs. At the meeting, club members filled a tabletop with donations of snack items, including individually packaged chips, cookies, nuts, beef sticks, Gatorade, water, and candy bars for the service men and women at the Rock Island center.

If you would like to know more about the USO Rock Island Center or would like to volunteer there, give Ms. Inman a call at 309.782.3896.

The Golf Outing

It could have been a couple of degrees warmer, but

otherwise, a PERFECT day.

And, we line up our carts, but before “We’re Off!”, a few

pictures.

First Up

(L-R) Ray & Kaye Garbett and Larry & Fern Greer are hoping that

the first won’t be last.

Middle Relief

(L-R) Mary Jean & Karl Adlon and Kathy & Tom Conrad are hoping to

not provide the comic relief.

Clean-Up

(L-R) Bob & Lois Dixon and Joe Johnson are hoping the lack of a fourth is somehow an advantage.

We ‘teed off’ the new Exchange Club year and, knowing that many members had good reasons for missing this outing, we weren’t teed off they weren’t there.

Besides, we were having too good a time for that!
