Artist Analysis - Yasuyoshi Chiba The photograph is taken from the article Japan Earthquake: The Long Road to Recovery published in focus. The photographer is taken by Yasuyoshi Chiba.

What I find particularly interesting about this photograph is how the photographer only focused on the jacket and created a strong contrast with the background of rumbles. It creates a really poignant image as it shows the consequence of the Earthquake.

This photograph inspired me take my own images because the contrast between the jacket and the background creates a really strong image. I will travel to a deserted nuclear field in Dungeness and try to take images that creates a strong contrast between the background and the main focus of the image.

EvaluationMy intention in taking these photos was to capture a dramatic deserted area and I think I was

quite successful in capturing it.

Like my artist I wanted to focus on the subject matter and have a blurred out but strong background to create a strong contrast between the subject matter and the background. But for some images I wanted to focus on the whole scene. I think I was successful in capturing what I wanted. Therefore I think the technical & visual qualities of my photos are good.

The quality of my formal elements is not as I good as I hoped for. I believe my compositions wasn’t very interesting I don’t have a strong focal point in all the images and I didn’t experiment with the composition a lot. For me, the image that has the best composition is the 6th picture because the composition helped to made the picture more dramatic.

I believe I achieved the level of symbolism I wanted in my photographs because I wanted to make the photographs really dramatic so it gives the vibe that it’s a ghost city I think the viewer will be able to decipher that because after editing the images in Photoshop I was able to achieve what I wanted.

Artist Analysis The photograph is from an ‘Untitled’ Photographer. The photographer said this about his pictures “You die twice in life. The first time is your actual physical death, the second time is when someone picks up your photograph and no one can remember who you are.”

What I find interesting about this photographs is the vintage and old effect. It just makes the images aesthetically pleasing. I have always been interested in old images because they are breathtaking

Development Photography

EvaluationMy intention was to create an old and vintage effect to my photographs so they come across as old image. I think for some images I was able to achieve and overall I think the effect looks good.

What I tried to symbolise through the development that like the area pictures can be also be abandoned therefore I created an the initial pictures into old images. I’m not sure anyone would understand my intention without an explanation. Nevertheless I am very happy with the images because I think the development really emphasis what I visualised when I was experimenting with the photos.
