1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The E.P.W project for IU campus is built to reduce cost of operating our university. According tothis project, the cost of electricity is reduced by applying window insulation film .Rain water

during wet season will be stored and utilized for many purposes such as watering, filling fishpond, fountain..etc. Finally, the issue of paper saving is maintained by collecting & selling topaper company.

Our report consists of 6 main parts.

1. The idea description, where we indicate 3 phases of modification, the Paper phase,the Electricity phase and the Water phase, each of them will be mentioned withspecific requirements and limits of time.

2. Followed by this part is the management plan, which relates to human resources and

the team that will carry out this project from start to end, the management plan alsoconsists of an organization board and the support from others source such as our own university, the government or non ± profit organizations

3. Then in the 3rd part is the service that our project offered, containing bothtechnological and business view. This part will present everything about our projectin depth, show that how this project can take part in a lot in saving and using wastepaper, electricity and water economically

4. Moreover, every service needs a way to popularize itself, the marketing part willmention about the information about the current situation in our field, the

user/customer that will be interested in our project, future competitors«And alsomany strategies that we will use to promote our project in the market.

5. Without a good operation plan, we can¶t do anything, so the 5 th part is dedicated towritten about the flow of service, from the beginning to the end.

6. The last part is Finance, where we update every cost that relates to our project,analysis of statistics and so on.

2. IDEA DESCRIPTION

Our project is built to handle the issues of saving E(Electricity), W(Water) and P

(Paper) in our university. According to this project, the cost of electricity is reduced by

applying window insulation film .Rain water during wet season will be stored and utilized for

many purposes such as watering, filling fish pond, fountain..etc. Finally, the issue of paper

saving is maintained by collecting & selling to paper company.

Nowadays, many saving energy (resources) models are applied worldwide, especially

in developed countries. As a role of an international university, IU should be the pioneer in

this area. The amount of money paid by our university for Electricity, Water & buying Paper

is huge. Thus, by applying this project, we not only save, but also earn back some money for

further usage. Moreover, many students are still not highly aware of the importance of saving

and protecting environment, our project contributes to improve the sense of everyone .

A part from that, our project also has some big contributions to society:o Saving resources is now an important feature of our government .

o Saving and earning back a large amount of money. This benefit is not only for

our university, but also for our country.

o If this model succeeds, we can replicate to other universities, office buildings,

together with industrial factories.

o Improving the perception of the environmental protection.

o Encourage people to invent new models in reducing energy (resources)

consumption and environmental protection.

This project does not need any advanced technology.

The cost for the construction of this E.W.P model is appropriate.

Our model is scalable for multiple aspects

In the third year, depending on the needs of each department and the expansion of the company, we will recruit staff with specialized skills. And our group will follow thecompany from the start to the end, and make sure that its development follows themission and vision of our company.

y This project itself is very useful to build a good reputation for our university;to be the pioneer on resource saving system. This is a good way for our university to promote itself not only in domestic but also international

Second, we will convince the non-profit organizations who care about the

environmental standards of our country to support us, and we will also bring our projectto participate in some environmental protection (or energy saving) contests.

Our group hasfour persons. Each of us will take care of different parts in our activities..In the first year, our group will carry out this plan alone. After a certain amountof time, our team will find volunteers to take care some activities like sales, after-salesservice, marketing, design, R&D, evaluate.

4. THE PRODUCT (SERVICES)

SAVING ENERGYare now a urgent problem in society. As a University with the

International position, IU should be the leader in using models of saving energy. From this

thinking, we design a project, which are simple, attractive and effective to save energy as

much as we can. This project will take part a lot in saving and using waste paper, electricity

and water economically. Although this spends much money but the money is in permitted

condition and can be from its own. Beside that, in the long-term, the benefit we get are

relatively huge. Furthermore, if we apply successfully, this project can be multiply in many

kinds of building.

4.1 Business view:

As we know that, in foreign countries especially in developed countries, they are

using many methods which utilize natural energy and save a lot of money. However, these

methods are hard to carry out and using expensive materials in our country . Consequently,

we design a project that are done by focusing on easy methods and sometimes using

materials which are cheaper and more popularized.

Model of salvaging Waste paper:

In the part of saving paper, we utilize waste paper, considered as garbage, like a

good resource to earn money by selling to paper collecting company. These fees after selling

are such a high profit and they are then used back for many purposes like taking part in many

saving energy resources, buying paper, or making banners,... We also provide another ideas

that using notebook of examination to save draft paper . This model can be applied not only to

students but also to 20 offices or departments in IU . The special advantage of this plan is

completely easy to implement without spending any money. Let¶s have a look in this

calculation:

Average each student used 7 kg A4 paper including examined paper, draft

paper, documents, lectures,... in 1 semester, and there are about 2000 students in IU. 1kg

paper can be sold about 3,000 VND. So in 1 year, we can get:

2,000 students * 7 kg * 3,000 VND/kg * 2 semesters = 84,000,000 VND.

20 departments and offices in IU with about 10 kg A4 waste paper per

week per office or department. Similar to the previous calculation, in 1 year, we can get:

20 offices/departments * 10 kg * 3,000 VND/kg * 52 weeks = 31,200,000 VND.

So in 1 year we can get more than100,000,000 VND/yearfrom selling waste

paper . This is such a high profit that we should not have to waste.

The disadvantage is that we do not have an office or an organization that play an

intermediary role to call upon students to collect paper and sell them to collecting company .

Luckily, there is a GET, a BT team, which are founded in 2010 in the purpose of making our

earth green. We do not have enough knowledge about classifying waste paper is also another

obstacle. However should we co-operate with collecting companies, they can help us to

classify and use waste paper appropriately.

The special feature of this model is that will get E nvironmental Protection

Certification from Collecting company, which is important in increasing the prestige and the

position of IU, to prove IU is a good educational environment .

Model of saving electricity:

By using 30% of profit money that we earn from the previous model, we intend

to buy thermal-tolerant films to prevent using much electricity. Thermal-tolerant filmsare

normally applied to the interior of flat glass windows to reduce the amount ofinfrared,visible

light, andultraviolet(UV)radiationentering windows.Using thermal-tolerant films can save

relatively much money paying for electricity.

Model of utilizing rain ± water:

In the saving water plan, we design a big underground tank, which can be used to

filter and store rain ± water . Rain ± water after filtered can be used for trees watering, ornate

fountain during dry season or even floor and toilet cleaning . Vietnam is a tropical country

with 6 month with hot, rainy season (mid-May to mid-September) and warm, dry season

(mid-October to mid-March), therefore if we can store and use water during 6 month-dry-

season with the condition that the price of clean water is more and more higher, we can savea lot of money. This also leads to saving cleaning water resources that are fairly scarce .

The disadvantage is we need a large amount of money in building a large

underground concrete tank and in buying relatively a lot of materials. The money we can get

from asking non-profit environmental organization. From these organization, we can have

aid not only about money but also the knowledge to have best quality of this tank .

4.2 Technological view:

Model of salvaging Waste paper:

As we mentioned, GET, a nonprofit team, could be a intermediary. Our group

will co-operate with GET to do survey asking students about amount of paper they use, how

they deal with waste paper and their idea about notebook of examination. From that, we will

know clearly about the ability of our project. Then GET will help us to call up, collect and

classify paper from students, offices and department. After that waste paper will be sold to

collecting company and get money. The money will then be separate appropriate purposes

based on the percentages (in The implementation part).

Model of saving electricity:

We do the research that our classrooms take a lot of time to get cold and

sometimes we do not feel cold at all. The reasons because our classrooms are big and they

have many windows that make the time for a room to be cooled is so long. As a result a large

amount of electricity have been used to run a lot of air ± conditioners in order to cold down

classrooms. Thermal-tolerant films are then be stuck on the windows to prevent hot and

sunshine from outside and make the classrooms cold quickly. This thermal-tolerant films do

not prevent light so they are good for people¶s eyes.

Model of utilizing rain ± water:

This is the long ± term project so we wait until the amount of money we need

enough, we will conduct this model. Expenditure will get from two sources, nonprofit

environmental organization and from IU. A concrete plan about materials with price we must

use, volume we need and the underground position we build will be introduce clearly in the

following parts. Materials we mainly use for making the filter are clean sand, white gravel

and activated carbon. From co-operate with nonprofit environmental organization, we can

have aid to add more information and knowledge about the time to change or wash the filter .

Basically, this filter can be use for more than one year . We also design an underground

system that water trees, bring water to ornate fountain or pump water to floor for cleaning .

5 MARKETING

5.1 Make your idea accepted by community.

To commence, we would like to clarify to the community that what we are going tooffer is not a tangible product_ it isa service business. To be specific, our intangible productis a resources saving project, which mainly focus on saving such resources as electricity,water and paper, and we named it E.W.P. In compliance with the principle of scarcity, westrongly believe that our product does not only meet the current and raging demand of thetarget customers but also of the whole society.

As we know, our society narrowly and the world generally are now facing theproblem of saving the scarce resources; unfortunately, not many people in our society areactually aware of this serious issue. Therefore, in order to help the community more easilyand quickly adapt and accept this project, the very first action should be taken right away is

noticing the target market about the problem, than encourage them to learn about our product, help them realize what are the long term benefits they will receive from consumingour product so as to solve the earlier mentioned issue.

Some of our actions are discussed as follows:

y Contact other universities or office buildings where people consume a hugeamount of electricity, water and paper to present them our service and ask them to travel toIU campus for real observation on our project

y Making brochures and writing articles about social benefits provided by our service on newspaper, magazines, particularly in the sections of scientific environmental

protection, new creative activities of students, etc.

y Design a website to provide detailed information about our service as well as our

vision, mission, events, etc. y Bring our project to some of the universities or youth competitions around the

nation such as ³y tuongxanh´, etc.

5.2 Our users, customers

Our company is designed to provide saving solution for every kinds of infrastructuresuch as office buildings, factories, universities, schools, and even private houses. In fact,firstly we decide to focus mostly on small scale buildings and educational infrastructure . First, it¶s very convenient for the company to contact us and let us present our plan of installation. Saving means a lot, and with just a reasonable investment, they can get anefficient system for resource savings.

5.3 Our investors

When starting our company, we will find investors, companies, organizations that canhelp us or cooperate with us. Now, we are a new company, starting at high risk . It¶s very

difficult to deal with the bank to loan money. So, our group decides to find others investorslike venture funds and funds that re willing to help new companies. It¶s possible that theywould support us even of high risk .

We might contact the non-profit organizations (in environmental protection and

resource saving fields),show them the benefits of our project, and wait if they can help uswith the funding, in exchange with advertisement or promotion.

5.4 Our competitors, current products

5.4.1 Company from other countries:

About the foreign companies, there are so many of them, but thedisadvantage of those companies is that the cost is very high. Moreover theawareness of using Vietnamese product (service) is increasing in our society.

Then, we have the advantage to compete with these companies

5.4.2 Vietnamese companies:

Currently in Viet Nam, most resource saving project are conducted by theconstruction companies (builder of infrastructure), there are very fewcompanies that focus entirely on the edge of resource saving. There are manycompanies that combine electric construction and electric saving such asTienLuc ,Phu Hung« (http://tienluccorp.vn/) .But the unique competitive

advantage of our project is that we combine the three types of resources in justone project.

6.2 Process in depth

6.2.1 Creating:

From the idea, we try to find information about the current situation (by makingsurvey), then thinking about the initial requirements that need for our ideas. After that, we find team work and discuss to each other and finding more information . Together we design the requirement, then brainstorming to create various ideas. Depending on the condition of society, the advantage and disadvantage of eachsolution, we choose one best solution and then begin the activities and write the plan.

6.2.2 Developing:

After creating step, we start to develop our activities. Firstly we have to bootstrap. Secondly, we need to recruit in order to increase our activities, especially for paper collecting. In this period, we will focus on the quality and quantity of desiredproducts as well as develop our activities..

6.2.3 Managing:

When we develop our activities, we also expend new relationships, finding moreinvestors for our project. By encouraging students to join with us, we can popularizethe activities, organize some seminars and invite another university to let them know

about this project.

Thus we can expand our activities not only in InternationalUniversity, but also in another university

6.2.4 Closing:In the last period, this is the time we get the results, know how many money we

can save for our university, and importantly, increase the awareness of people toprotect the environment.

6.3 Production process

6 .3.1.2 Manufacture:

(1) - Save paper from using Notebook of examination.

In each examination, we spend a lot of money for buying examined paper and

draft paper . Our group provides the idea that we should use notebooks of examination

which contain examined paper together with draft paper in this notebook . After collecting

and giving marks by lecturers, these notebooks will be sold. By using this method, a large

amount of paper will be save and notebooks we collected could be sold based on its

weigh for recycling and earning back money. We can also prevent the waste of draft

paper after each examination.

(2) (3) - Collect and classif y paper by GET group.

GET stands for Green Earth Team, a BT group, which is founded in 2010. GET

responsible for doing many campaigns in order to prevent the pollution and protect the

environment on the IU scale. In this plan, GET will take part to co-ordinate with IU to

classify and sell waste paper .

(2) ± The quantities of paper used every week in IU offices are large . The larger

amount of waste paper we sell, the larger amount of money we earn . So, GET will

classify what kind of paper and responsible to deal with waste paper .

(3) ± At present, IU is conducting open-book examination. This leads to a large

amount of documents, literatures or lectures have been left after the examinations.

Besides, paper that students collect outside IU could be a good source to contribute to this

model.

If we can take full advantage of selling these kinds of paper, we can not only earnmoney but also protect our environment from waste paper . Students will receive

E nvironmental Protection Certification, which help them to increase their training

points. Furthermore, by using again these recycling waste paper, we can save our

environmental resources.

(4) - Selling paper to Collecting company

GET team will sell waste paper to collecting company and this company will

help us to give these kinds of paper to Paper company for recycling and pay us money.

These fees can be used for many activities such as making banner to appeal students for

saving and using paper appropriately or producing notebooks of examination..

(5) - Benefits from collecting company

Collecting company will pay us money based on the weight of paper we collect

and sell for them.

Collecting company also give us information about the classification of waste

paper which are helpful to classify waste paper and treat waste paper appropriately .

Moreover, Collecting company will give IU the E nvironmental Protection

Certification, which is important in increasing the prestige and the position of IU to

people, to prove that IU is friendly to environment and IU always takes the lead in the

movement for protecting environment.

(6) - Using money for many features

Money we earn from selling waste paper can be used for many activities like

making notebook of examination, doing some activities to appeal to student saving paper

and using paper appropriately or spending to some activities of saving energy .

(2) - Asking for permission

We do the plan asking for permission for sticking thermal-tolerant films to the

windows. Than we do research to know about the number of windows needed to be

stuck . From this, we can calculate clearly about the money we need to buy.

(3) - Buying materials

After calculating about the number of windows and the area of one window, our

group is going to buy thermal-tolerant films from specific company.

(4) - Sticking to classrooms

Material company help us to stick these thermal-tolerant films to the windows.

Our team will set up an ³CALIBRATED SOLUTION´ to minimize the cost and provide

the best efficiency of electricity.

Our priority system consists of many criterions:

Room with directed sunlight > Room with undirected sunlight.

Room with directed sunlight in the afternoon > Room with directed

sunlight in the morning

Room with many PC > Large room > Small room > Office room

6.3.3 The model of utilizing rain water:

6 .3.3.1 Design


(1) - Asking for sponsoring

Our group intends to find out an nonprofit environmental organization (NEO)

which will help us to have a best plan to design a water tank . We also ask them for

sponsor us money to build this model

(2) - Support from NEO

NEO will introduce an expert who always follow the model and give us

knowledge for making this plan perfectly. NEO also supply us money for buying material

together with building this plan.

(3) - Asking for permission

We will give the plan to IU for asking the permission to apply our plan . Then

we will combine with IU to find an appropriate place for building water tank . Beside that,

we also ask for amount of money that IU could support to us .

(4) - Support from IU

Money supported from IU and NEO will be used to ask for entrepreneur to build

a tank that ensure about the quality as well as the demand of the model like amount of

water can be stored, or time to store water ... We also have the combination of IU to

design a system for using water after filtered.

(5) - Buying material

From the expense of IU and NEO, we will first conduct the model by buying

materials for building tank as well as for making filters. Materials we mainly need for

filters are clean sand, white gravel and activated carbon.

(6) - Building tank

The entrepreneur conducts to build the tank . The entrepreneur and our group do

some procedures to ensure that the tank will finish on time and also ensure about the

quality. 400 liters of water will generate enough greywater to irrigate 100 m2 of garden in

one week . The average volume that we calculate that we need to use in 6 months is 9600

liters.

We will combine with the expert from NEO to help us to establish the filtered

After ensuring about the quality together with the requirement of the model . We

will co-operate with IU to build a system that transfer water to essential location like IU

garden, lake, ornate fountain or pump water to use as running water .
