a message ffrroomm AAppoossttllee PPrriiccee

When my wife, Dr. Betty, was diagnosed with cancer in1990, I was shocked. My beautiful, vibrant wife had an inop-erable malignant tumor. While the news caught us all offguard, we immediately had to exercise our faith. I confessed

the Word with Dr. Betty and encouraged her.

Initially, she decided against chemotherapy and radiationtreatments because of the negative effect she thought it wouldhave on her body. She was eventually convinced by a wise doc-tor to go through with the treatments. Had she not, she mayhave died—and how would that have glorified God? Getting

medical treatment or taking medicine in no way negates our faith in God to heal us. Our faithis based on believing we have received what we have asked God for. Until you have the phys-ical manifestation of what is already yours in the spirit realm, you still have to walk by faitheven when your body, in the natural, is not healed.

By October of 1991, an MRI scan showed that there were no traces of cancer in my wife’sbody. She endured those chemotherapy and radiation treatments AND she stood on theWord of God. Healing is indeed part of God’s plan for our lives. It may not always comeimmediately. Often, we have to confess God’s Word in the midst of trying situations—that’sglorifying God!

Psalm 118:17 says, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” This is mywife’s testimony. And to this day, she is still declaring the wondrous works of the Lord.

God is a healer. He wants us to be healthy and whole in mind, body andspirit. But we can’t just ask God to heal us and not walk according to theguidelines He’s established. For healthy bodies, we must eat healthy foodsand exercise. For healthy minds, we have to meditate on God’s Word andwatch what we are entertaining ourselves with.

Healing is ours as believers. Mark 11:24 says, “Therefore I say toyou, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that youreceive them, and you will have them.” If you are in need of healing, confess God’s Word and stand on His promises.

Givingthanks

always for allthings unto God

and the Father in thename of our Lord JesusChrist. —Ephesians 5:20 (KJV)

s a Christian, am I sup-posed to thank God foreverything that comes

my way? There is a lot of discus-sion about this verse in churches

today. However, we need to bescripturally discriminating aboutthis and analyze what we are giv-ing thanks for.

Are you supposed to give Godthanks for your little child gettinghit by a car and dying? When yourhusband dies of cancer and leavesyou with five children to raise.Do you thank God? There aremany churches that preach thatwe are to give thanks in these andother evil situations. They say,“Well, the Lord gave and theLord has taken away, blessed bethe name of the Lord.” No!

I can’t thank God when some-one dies and goes to hell. I can’t

thank God when someone is crip-pled with some paralysis and he

can’t even feed himself. Is thiswhat the scripture is asking

me to do? Am I to thankGod for everything that

happens – good orbad?

TheSpirit of Godgave me a revela-tion regarding thisscripture which I wantto share with you today.Look at the twentieth verseagain, “giving thanks always forall things unto God and theFather in the name of our LordJesus Christ.” Notice that the thingswe are to give thanks for are those

that are “unto God.”

1166 And they sent to Him their dis-ciples with the Herodians, saying,"Teacher, we know that You aretrue, and teach the way of God intruth; nor do You care about any-one, for You do not regard the per-son of men.

1177 "Tell us, therefore, what doYou think? Is it lawful to pay taxesto Caesar, or not?"

1188 But Jesus perceived theirwickedness, and said, "Why do

you test Me, you hypocrites?

1199 "Show Me the tax money." Sothey brought Him a denarius.

Weare supposed

to give thanks toGod always for the

things that He has done, not for what the devil has

done. Do you understand? We give God thanks, credit,

praise and glory for what He hasdone! You don’t thank God for

what the devil has done. You don’tthank God that somebody died and

went to hell. You don’t thank Godthat somebody is sick and helpless

or because somebody was killed ormurdered. Don’t blame God for

what the devil does.

“I have come that theymay have life, and thatthey may hve it more

abundantly.”—John 10:10

I know that the idea of a devil isfar fetched for some intellectuals. However, whether you believe itor not, the devil still exists. The

Word of God says it and Ibelieve God’s Word. Some ofyou are in denial and that is whythe devil has been whipping your

heads. He has tricked you intobelieving that he doesn’t exist and

you have been calling the thingsthat the devil has been doing in

your life, “the works of God.”

Even as a society wehave been blaming

God for all mannerof destruction.

T h e

insur-ance compa-nies write intotheir insurance con-tracts, “Acts of God.”There are certain thingsthey won’t insure becausethey say that the flood, hurri-cane, tornado and earthquakesare “Acts of God.”

He who sins is of the devil, for thedevil has sinned from the begin-

ning. For this purpose the Son ofGod was manifested, that Hemight destroy the works of thedevil.

If Jesus came to destroy theworks of the devil, then the devilmust have some works. Is thisright? Jesus described the deviland his works in John 10:10, "Thethief does not come except tosteal, and to kill, and to destroy. Ihave come that they may have life, and that they may have it moreabundantly.”

The devil has some works andwhen the devil does his works

you are not to give God thanksfor what the devil has done. You

give thanks unto God for whatHe has done. Render unto God

the things that are God’s and renderunto Satan the things that he hasdone. Stop blaming God for thethings that the devil isdoing!—EIF

e often hear stories from par-ents who are at a loss becausetheir teenage child, who onceloved church, has lost interest

in attending service. Exhausted from theSunday morning battle on the need to attendchurch, many parents decide to throw in thetowel and let their son or daughter stayhome. After all, they conclude that if theywould rather stay home than go to church, itmay not benefit them anyway.

Leading researchers point out that "justbecause a person identifies what it is they donot necessarily want, doesn’t mean theyknow what they need.” Rebuilding interestin church for a teen may seem difficult andmaybe even feel impossible—however, it’snot! By leading your teen on the right pathand taking the right steps, your son ordaughter can live a fulfilled life in Christ. You have already taken the first step by seek-ing Godly counsel.

Proverbs 22:6 says “Train up a child in theway he should go: and when he is old, he willnot depart from it.” (NKJV) Here’s how theNew Living Bible states it, “Direct your chil-dren onto the right path, and when they areolder, they will not leave it.” The way heshould go—or the path he should take (inthis scripture) refers to the tenor of his way(i.e. his gifting, his talent, his bent, the pathespecially belonging to, the path especiallyfitted for the individual's character, etc.).The proverb enjoins the closest possible

study of each child'stemperament and theadaptation of "hisway of life" to that.Train means to initi-ate, and so educate.

As a parent, youhave been given theability to identifyyour child’s gifts andabilities. Once thosegifts and abilitieshave been discov-ered, you are to then

provide direction, education, and training toassist him/her in finding their way. Thisapplies to church as well as other areas of life. You can help your teen find their place with-in your local church and within the church“globally” by getting them “plugged-in”through serving in the ministry. By doingthis you will provide them with the “want to”for going to church regularly.

HERE ARE SIX THINGS YOU CAN DO TO HELP YOUR TEEN

he heart has long been used as a sym-bol to refer to the spiritual, emotional, moral and intellectual core of a humanbeing. Years ago people thought and

argued that their emotions came from theirhearts, maybe because the heart beats faster whena person is scared or excited. We’ve learnedthrough research and technology that the emo-

tions comefrom the

b r a i nand the

b r a i ntells the

heart what to do!

The heart is one of themost important organs in the entire human body, beating approximately 72 times per minute. Anadult heart beats approximately 100,000 times aday, pumping about 2,000 gallons of blood. Theheart pumps nearly five quarts of blood throughyour body every 60 seconds. It has been estimat-ed that the heart will beat about 3 million timesduring a 70-year lifetime.

To understand heart disease, it will help toknow how the heart works. Your heart is a pump,it’s a muscular organ about the size of your fistand located slightly left of center in your chest. The coronary arteries that supply blood to theheart muscle spread across the surface of theheart, beginning at the base of the aorta andbranching out to all areas of the heart muscle.Your heart is divided into the right and the leftside. The division protects oxygen-rich bloodfrom mixing with oxygen-poor blood. Oxygen-rich blood returns to the heart after circulatingthrough your body.

Your heart also has electrical wiring, whichkeeps it beating. Electrical impulses begin high inthe right atrium and travel through specializedpathways to ventricles, developing the signal topump. The continuous exchange of oxygen-richblood with oxygen-poor blood is what keeps youalive. There are many causes of disease of yourheart valves. Four valves within your heart keepblood flowing in the right direction. You may be

born with valvular disease, or the valves may bedamaged.

Cardiovascular disease can take many forms:high blood pressure, coronary artery disease, valvular, heart disease, stroke, or rheumaticfever/rheumatic heart disease. According to theWorld Health Organization, cardiovascular dis-ease causes 12 million deaths in the world eachyear. Cardiovascular disease is responsible forhalf of all deaths in the U.S. and other developedcountries as well. Overall, it is the leading causeof death in adults.

Coronary artery disease, the most commonform of cardiovascular disease, is the leading

cause of death in America today. In theU.S. more than 60 million Americanshave some form of cardiovascular dis-ease. About 2600 people die every day

of cardiovascular disease. Cancer, the secondlargest killer, accounts for only half as manydeaths

One main contribut-ing Risk Factor is stress;it is considered a con-tributing factor becauselittle is known about itseffects. The effects ofemotional stress, behav-ior habits, and socioeco-nomic status on the riskof heart disease and heartattack have been proven. This is because we alldeal with stress different-ly. Stressful situations

raise your heart rate and blood pressure, increas-ing the need for oxygen. We as Spirit filledBelievers should not allow the powers of dark-ness to attack us with stress. Psalms 16:1,Proverbs 3:5, 1st Peter 5:7.

In the Bible the earliest passage concerningthe heart is in Genesis 6:5, even though the heartis emphasized in scripture, few understand theBible heart. The Hebrew word for heart is Lebwhich carries the meaning; intellect, awareness, mind, inner person, inner feelings and deepestthoughts. In the Greek the word heart is Kardia, which carries the meaning of thoughts or feelings(mind).

The heart is also described as the primarysource of such bad behavior such as adultery, hatred, lust, mischief, pride, and rebellion as well

as good behavior such as gladness, love, and obe-dience. The heart is fully known to God andJesus Christ, Jeremiah 17:9-10. Jesus said, out ofthe abundance of the heart the mouth speaksMatt 12:34, He who searches the hearts knowswhat the mind of the Spirit is, Romans 8:27.

Our Father God sees what is in the heart, Hecan accurately judge a persons heart and motives. In 1st Samuel 16:7 we see that God looks at theheart and not necessarily at the physical stature. We can also look at the scribes and Pharisees

who honored God with their lips, but their heartwas far removed from Him Matthew 15:8.

The Bible has a lot to say about the humanheart; of course, it addresses the heart not from amedical condition but a spiritual condition. There are about 850 times the Bible refers to theheart, but only a few times is the heart referred toas a physical organ that pumps blood. It’s mostlyreferred to as a spiritual metaphor that revels theinner core of a person’s actions thoughts andintents (Hebrews 4:12).

Finally, we understand that heart often meanssomeone’s true character or personality, purity orevil, sincerity or hardness. All these describe theheart or true character of individuals. Our heav-enly Father knows the heart of each person andsince people speak and act from their hearts, weare to guard our hearts well, Proverbs 4:23, themost important duty of a Believer is to love Godwith the whole heart, with all our soul, and withall our mind. In the midst of severedepression, she watched TrinityBroadcast Network (TBN)late at night when her familywas asleep, “I received Jesus atabout two in the morning whenI was 16. I knew what I haddone was right but I had no oneto talk to about it and was shy tobegin with. I was also torn. Tobecome a Christian in a worldof Jews would have been betray-ing my people because we weretortured and murdered by socalled Christians.

After Mindy received a bach-elor degree in vocal perform-ance from Webster College inSt. Louis, she moved toHollywood to pursue a secularsinging career and unintention-ally began watching ApostleFred Price on television. Herlife was about to change when afellow cast member led her to aBible Study at CrenshawChristian Center—not know-ing that this was the church she

had been watching on televi-sion. She soon became a mem-ber of CCC and received theinfilling of the Holy Spirit.

“I wasn’t sure I would bewelcomed by these beautiful, confident, wise people, but Ididn’t care. If I was just allowedto attend in the back I washappy to glean from the teach-ing. At that particular time Iwas bingeing again, 50 poundsoverweight, depressed, brokeand in that state there is no wayI could get singing gigs—yet, after receiving assurance of mysalvation and praying in myheavenly language, I knew Godwas with me and encouragingme with a power and love thatwas greater than human love.”

Soon after becoming a CCCmember, Mindy noticed a sub-stantial transformation in herlife. She lost the desire to singsecular music and began main-taining a steady healthy weightas the self-destructive behaviorwas rooted out.

She entered business schoolknowing she wanted to giveback to the ministry that hadhelped her and became a CCCemployee. In November of 1989she met the man she would latermarry, a fellow CCC employee, who became an assistant pastor

11 years later, Minister MichaelReid.

Says Mindy, “I grew somuch as a result of being mar-ried to this amazing man whoexuded the fruits of the spiriteverywhere he went.” They hada wonderful family life of 17

years and made many remark-able memories together. Mindyand Minister Reid were blessedwith a son, Michael Reid Jr.,who was diagnosed withAsperger’s Syndrome. “He is sowonderfully unique and I lovehim dearly. I actually love howhe interacts. He is going toamaze multitudes,” says Mindyof her son. Though they do facechallenges, they overcome themall one day at a time. “Michaelcan quote an innumerableamount of scriptures, is verysmart (almost a photographicmemory), he’s musical, tenderhearted towards others and hasa huge heart.”

Though their faith wasstrong and Minister Reid hadnumerous miraculous healingsthrough a chronic childhood ill-ness (he was diagnosed to onlylive until 19 years of age), hepassed at 44 years old. “The daybefore he died Michael prophe-sied over me and told me somethings that have actually cometo pass and some I still hold inmy heart. He thanked me formaking our home such a place ofpeace and told me he loved meand everything we had everbelieved God for will come topass.” I thought he was sayingall that because he was about toreceive a miraculous healing anysecond, but I was wrong. Hecould never have looked in myeyes and said goodbye and visaversa. The day that he died Iwas determined to move on tofulfill God’s will which was thecharacter of my late husband.”

Four months later, Mindymet Daniel Glaser while accept-

ing an invitation to sing at aMessianic Synagogue withDaniel as the piano player. They found out they were bothBorn Again Jews from the sameneighborhoods in Chicago. Asthe months pursued, they alsodiscovered their mothers wentto High School together andMindy’s father was Daniel’sfather’s biggest client. Theywere also birthed by the samedoctor at the same hospital! They began writing andrehearsing together and becamefiends. A year later they married.

Speaking of her new hus-band, Mindy says, “This trulymarks a new phase of my life.Daniel challenges me to be boldin ways that I’ve never been chal-lenged before. He pushes meand stretches me as a singer, songwriter, and mother toexpress my feelings and shareencouragement with others.”

Mindy continues aboutDaniel that he is great with herson and has taken him in as hisown. ”This takes continuouswork, gaining knowledge andseeking wise counsel but we’vecome so far. He and my sonhave now bonded beautifully.Michael is so happy! It is more

than a notion for a man to takeon a traumatized 15-year-oldwith special needs as well as ayoung adolescent accepting abrand new father he is to submitto. We all adore each other andhave come through so much in ashort time.

“I couldn’t have survived andexcelled on my own without lov-ing guidance and support. I amso grateful to the people atCCC and the Price Family whocontinue and will always be “my”family along with all of my fami-ly. In addition, it is an honorand privilege to be employed atCCC and working for Mrs.Angela Evans who I consider aspiritual mentor just by observ-ing her administrative gifts andspiritual sensitivity in operatingone of the most effective min-istries in the world. Wordscan’t explain how she hasunknowingly been a guidinglight of Christ through this jour-ney, encouraging me and con-victing me in ways she will neverknow,” adds Mindy.

Mindy’s family has grown asher husband Daniel has broughtthree young adults of his owninto Mindy’s life who she con-siders honored to know andembrace. Each is tremendously, uniquely gifted. Tabitha,Gabby, and Nicky are currentlypursuing art, ministry and pro-fessional skate boarding inCanada, San Francisco andChicago. “I’m so grateful toDaniel and Michael who loveme unconditionally. s a young boy, I remember rushinghome from school to watch the after-noon cartoons. After a full day of read-ing, writing and ‘rithmetic, my parents

often rewarded me by allowing me to watch anhour of TV before getting to my homework. One of my favorite shows to watch was a car-toon called “Transformers.” As the theme songcame on, I would get excited and turn the TVvolume way up. I can still hear the theme song inmy mind: “Transformers…More than meets theeye!” Who would have ever thought that yearslater, my 5-year-old son would now be watchinga series of Transformers movies on the bigscreen as the resurgence of the popular franchisehas taken the world by storm? As I sat in wor-ship and prayer recently, I soon realized a truththat encouraged my heart: The fictional depic-tion of robots being converted into automobilesand the like was actually a reflection of whatGod has set into motion in the Spirit realm:transformation.

Romans 12:2 tells us: And do not be con-formed to this world, but be transformed by therenewing of your mind, that you may provewhat is that good and acceptable and perfectwill of God. As faith-walking believers, weknow that our minds are constantly beingrenewed by the Word and that we are continu-ally “being filled” with God’s Spirit as we pray inthe Holy Spirit. Likewise, as worshipers, it isincumbent upon us to remember that as westand in His presence, we are made more likeHim and become more of the apple of His eye.Just as the famed Autobots and Decepticons ofthe Transformers franchise can morph into theobjects that are scanned into their mainframe,

we become more likeGod when we allow Hisheart to be downloadedinto ours. The key is toupload our worship intoHis server, betterknown as The ThroneRoom. 2 Corinthians3:18 states But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirrorthe glory of the Lord, are being transformedinto the same imagefrom glory to glory, just

as by the Spirit of the Lord. The key to qualify-ing for this transformation into His image is tobehold the glory of the Lord. The only way todo that is to get close enough to see His face. And that can’t be done standing on the outsideof the Throne Room looking in. It’s done bygoing beyond the veil (unveiled face) and havingone-on-one worship time with the Father. Thenwe shall be changed. And that is what I call anExtreme Makeover…Throne Room Edition.

Lets take a look at another account in God’sWord where worship to God created transfor-mation and affected change for His glory.

Many times when we think of the infamousKing Saul, we think of a jealous, deranged, bipolar, spear-throwing, has-been of a king whowas always “hating” on David. But what weoften fail to realize is that Saul was indeed aKING. At some point he did qualify to becomethat king. In those times, the position of kingwas not one that was arbitrarily or frivolouslybestowed on a person. It was one third of the tri-fecta of faith: the prophet, the priest and theking. Let’s go back in time and see how this man

“Do not be con-formed to thisworld, but betransformed bythe renewing ofyour mind, thatyou may provewhat is thatgood andacceptable andperfect will ofGod.”—Romans 12:2

came to be anointed as king.

In 1 Samuel 10, Saul is sent on an errand bythe prophet Samuel. Samuel tells Saul thatalong the way, he will come in contact withsome worshiping prophets:

3 Then you shall go on forward from thereand come to the terebinth tree of Tabor. Therethree men going up to God at Bethel will meetyou, one carrying three young goats, anothercarrying three loaves of bread, and another car-rying a skin of wine. 4 And they will greet youand give you two loaves of bread, which youshall receive from their hands. 5 After that you

shall come to the hillof God where thePhilistine garrison is.And it will happen, when you have comethere to the city, thatyou will meet a groupof prophets comingdown from the highplace with a stringedinstrument, a tam-bourine, a flute, and aharp before them;and they will beprophesying. 6 Thenthe Spirit of theLORD will comeupon you, and youwill prophesy withthem and be turnedinto another man. 7And let it be, whenthese signs come toyou, that you do asthe occasiondemands; for God is

with you.

Let me pause for a moment to point outsomething that I noticed about verse 6. Theassociative principle is very important in thelifestyle of a worshiper. It has been described inmany ways: “Birds of a feather flock together,”“The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree.” And soon. The bottom line is that we become most likewho we hang around. And in Saul’s case, hebecame like the prophets as he spent qualitytime around them. Subsequently, as they wor-shiped God, he worshiped God. It’s importantas worshipers to surround ourselves with thosewho are not only familiar, but are also comfort-able being in the Courts, the Gates and mostespecially, the Throne Room of God. Aligningourselves with those who maintain a healthyworship lifestyle is key to being a dweller withinthe Secret Place.

Now let’s examine what happened to Saulafter the Spirit of the Lord fell upon him…

9 So it was, when he had turned his back togo from Samuel, that God gave him (Saul)another heart; and all those signs came to passthat day. 10 When they came there to the hill, there was a group of prophets to meet him; thenthe Spirit of God came upon him, and he proph-esied among them. 11 And it happened, when allwho knew him formerly saw that he indeedprophesied among the prophets, that the peoplesaid to one another, “What is this that has comeupon the son of Kish? Is Saul also among theprophets?”

Wow! I like the first 3 words of verse eleven:“Then it happened…” To me, this translates into a simple equation:

OBEDIENCE + WORSHIP = RESULTSDo you see the life-altering, purpose-enhanc-

ing power of worship toward God? When Saulput himself in the company of worshipers andthen became like minded, verse 10 tells us thatthe Spirit of God then fell upon him as well. Then it happened…HE began to prophesy withthem! Saul left the camp an errand boy, butreturned a prophet. So much so, that thebystanders who all knew Saul beforehandexclaimed, “Wow! Is that Saul over there amongthe prophets?” Yes, the new and improved Saulwas most assuredly among the prophets! And asthe infomercial announcer says: “But

wait…there’s more.”

23 So they ran and brought him from there;and when he stood among the people, he wastaller than any of the people from his shouldersupward. 24 And Samuel said to all the people,“Do you see him whom the LORD has chosen, that there is no one like him among all the peo-ple?”

So all the people shouted and said, “Longlive the king!”

Saul was elevated to king and validatedamong the people. All because he chose to beobedient to his mentor, Samuel and because hedecided to not just be a spectator of worship, but a participator in worship. This is what Goddesires for all of us as believers. He has so manythings He wants to show us, give us and dothrough us. But some things can only be givenand some marching orders can only be sharedbehind closed doors: behind the door of theHoly of Holies. When we engage in worship toour Father, He lovingly draws us close to Him.It’s there that we see Him face to face. There is

a saying that says “Fathers are the mirrors thattheir children dress themselves in.” OurHeavenly Father is that mirror where we seeourselves as He is and we are changed.

I believe that thechange and trans-formation that Saulwent through wasfirst born in hisheart. The Word ofGod states that theissues of life flowout of our hearts. And as we spendmore time in thepresence of our

Father in worship, we will get close enough tofeel the cadence of His heart beating. And as weare changed, we will realize that our heartbeat isin perfect sync with His. So much so, that therethose around us will no longer hear two separatehearts beating…they will only hear one…His.—EIF

This brings to mind thetimeless worship chorusby Eddie Espinosa:

“Change my heart oh GodMake it ever true Change my heart oh GodMay I be like You You are the potterI am the clayMold me and make me This is what I pray”

ou need to have a personal rela-tionship with Jesus and knowHim in reality for yourself—what

He has done for you and what He will do,because He said that we could try Him andtest Him and then see Him work. But youwon’t know that about Jesus unless you firstact in faith and believe for Him to move inyour life. You have to believe that He is mov-ing in your life even when you don’t see it. Ifyou can learn that, you will have victory nomatter what you’re going through. Then

people will look aty o u

and say, “How can she be so happy while sheis going through all of this?” That is whenyou can be a witness that God is real. Whenyou know you can go through anythingbecause you know Jesus is with you, and Hewill bring you through no matter what the sit-uation or how long it takes.

A lot of Christians will start outusing their faith when they are goingthrough the challenge, but then theiremotions or the trauma of what theyare going through will get them offtrack and they lose their focus on theLord. Then they start making allkinds of terrible decisions that willhaunt them for months and some-times years. You have to stay focusedon God. You can’t look at what yousee. If I had looked at what I saw(the cancer, hip surgery, and kneesurgery), I don’t know if I would stillbe here today. But I refused to lookat what I saw, the sickness and dis-

ease. I looked at what I believed, and Ibelieved God’s Word.

We can start being a witness for the Lordright in our own homes. If you are a marriedwoman, you can serve by putting love intoaction by following Ephesians 5:22, whichsays: Wives, submit to your own husbands,as to the Lord. Most people don’t like theword, “submit.” However, submission is anact of love, especially when you do it as untothe Lord. Submission doesn't mean an infe-rior position or role, it is just that God hasplaced women in the position to be submis-sive to their husbands, who are or should be

the heads of the households.Somebody has to be the

h e a d ,

and somebody has to follow. Therank is: God the Father, Jesus Christ, theHoly Spirit, then man, woman, and then thechildren.

I have never understood why somewomen want to try and be the “man” of thehouse, when there is a man in the home capa-ble of fulfilling that role. If the husband is not

quite the head of the house he shouldbe, if you will submit like the Wordsays, God will take care of the hus-band. So many times we try to figureout how God is going to do things. Ifwe don’t wait on Him, we end updoing things our way and then wemess up things. But if we wouldlearn to let God do it, things willwork out much better. All of it is byfaith first. You have to learn to com-mit your spouse to the Lord becausenobody has the perfect spouse. Nowoman should expect her husband tobe perfect, because she is not perfect.Unfortunately, some of us want ourspouses to be right on in everything

and in everyway. It is not going to happen. When you get married, you start out just likea baby—a baby marriage. You have to giveand take. Now this does not mean that youhave to put up with or take all kindsof abuse, but you do have to give andtake and allow your spouse to growup. Ephesians 5:33 says:Nevertheless let each one of you inparticular so love his wife as himself, and the wife see that she respects herhusband. The part I want to empha-size is that the wife sees that sherespects her husband.

At a wedding I attended, theminister was reading the marriagevows and when he got to the partwhere it talked about the wife rever-encing her husband, the youngwoman said, “I don’t want to say that. Why should I have to do that?” Well, you can see that the marriage was not

getting off to a good start. Nevertheless, thewife respecting her husband is a necessarypart of marriage—at least in a Christian mar-riage. Like I said, “submission” doesn’t mean

that the wife has to do anything thehusband tells her to. God doesn’twant us to do anything that wouldviolate our conscience or ourChristian witness.

Colossians 3:23 tells us: Andwhatever you do, do it heartily, as tothe Lord and not to men. If you can’tdo it as unto the Lord, then don’t doit. It is our responsibility to train our-selves to be people of integrity, hon-esty, and character. —EIF

Unless otherwise indicated, Scripture quo-tations mentioned above are taken fromthe New King James Version of the Bible.

Do you have a question on your mind?Write to us at: Ever Increasing Faith Magazine, P.O. Box 44185, Los Angeles, CA 90009 or e-mail [email protected].

Can I live by faith and postdate a check, or not pay a bill, so I canstill have money to give to God?

If you tell the person to whom you are writingthe check that you would like to postdate thecheck, and that person says it is all right, then itis fine, because you have made that person awareof the situation. Normally, however, you musthave the money in the bank to cover the check. If you give someone a postdated check withouttelling him anything, you will cut your blessingsoff.

This also holds true if you write a check in themorning, then go to the bank in the afternoonand deposit the money to cover the check.Suppose there is a traffic accident on the way tothe bank? The streets may be blocked, and youmay not get to the bank in time to beat thecheck. In other words, you would be caughtlying and lying is against the Word of God.

As for not paying a bill so you have money togive to God, that is FOOLISH. When you do

that, you have lost your witness. You tell theman you are a Christian, make an agreementwith him to pay him for services he renders toyou, then do not keep your word when themoney is due.

If you do not have enough money to pay Godand pay the light bill, you are already overextend-ed. Tithing is for your benefit, not God’s. If youthink about it, not a penny of your tithe goes toGod. It goes to the local church, and is fed backto you in services through the church.

If you have not been tithing before now, youare already a God robber. Do not start tithinguntil you can afford to do it. If you do not pay abill, you are robbing the people who sent you thebill. That is even worse than robbing God.God will forgive you, but many times, peoplewill not.

from the hheeaaddlliinneess

y family was a struggling African-American, middle-class house-hold. Mom and Dad both worked

full time, all the time to provide a private schooleducation and the niceties of life. After I gradu-ated from an all boys’ private high school, Iwent to college to avoid military service. It did-n’t work; I got drafted anyway and spent a yearin Vietnam. I came home with nothing more

than mosquito bites. I par-layed my unemployedstatus into a job withthe railroad andremained there for14 years. Duringthis time, I providedan upper-middle classexistence for myself andeventually, my new family. Imarried a preacher’s kid and wehad children of our own. Like my par-ents, we sent our children to private schooland provided the best we could for them, which by then, was substantial.

I now have a wife and all the circumstancesthat go with it. So, by now, our children aregetting older, they can pretty much care forthemselves. My wife and I are approaching thetime when we’ll have an empty nest. She’s hav-ing PMS issues and I’m getting a gut and greyhair. We have a lot of time together now, with-out the distraction of the children’s needs. We’re really talking to one another for the firsttime in years and we’ve changed. We’reapproaching the dreaded mid-life.

What traditionally happens is when a cou-ple reaches their 40s and 50s, both the husbandand wife are having hormonal issues that theymight not realize. The woman is going throughthe change of life. Her body is no longer inchild-bearing mode. She’s also having issueswith her appearance. Starting with stretchmarks from her many pregnancies, addedweight she hasn’t been able to get off, grey hairsand wrinkles, now she’s looking more like hismother-in-law than the woman he married.

While the wife is going through her hor-monal issues, attitudes, mood swings and hotflashes, her husband is having similar hormonalchanges. His testosterone levels have droppedsignificantly since he isn’t catting around as hewas when he was single.

Now, the train wreck. These two peoplehave words with each other. The words lead toa communication interruption. This leads toeven less

personal interaction, ok, sex and itgoes downhill from there. They’re

both staying out late; doing heavenknows what while everything they’ve

worked for over the years is at home. She’sout with the girls or heaven forbid a guy, he’sout with the guys or heaven forbid a girl andguess who is in the middle of this? Satan—whoelse? The husband catches the eye of anotherwoman who is having life issues of her own. These issues the husband has firsthand knowl-edge of, and can assist (especially if she’s pretty)but it doesn’t really matter, she’s different. Thewife does the same or a variation of the Sex inthe City thing and the train is about to crash.

He ends up treating the new woman’swounds, she wants his stuff he’s accumulatedover the years, because she ain’t got jack. Thewife just wants to be held and talked to bysomeone understanding. Heaven forbid if it’sanother male out and about with his own mid-life crisis and they meet; but this is what Satanwants. He wants your family, dead, by anymeans possible.

So, finally, after months of no communica-tion, the couple speaks about their other livesand realizes they’re on the verge of destruction. Its decision time, do they keep their new inter-ests or try and repair the one they had? I sayyou’ve spent so much time together, you have somuch invested in each other, (Just look at all thephotos from before you got married until now,the children, the family time spent together, thetrials and tribulations, the good times and bad, look at the photos.) or, do you chuck it all androll the dice to see if the new person on therebound is any better or worse than what youhad at home?

More than likely, you’d end up jumping outof the frying pan and into the fire. Iknow a story of a man who was partowner in a business in his pot-bel-lied, mid-life state. He and his wifewere more of roommates than hus-band and wife. He starts flirtingwith the 20-something secretary inhis business who has nothing andnothing to lose. The guy is part-owner of thecompany so she entertains his flirts. He’s nowfeeling like he did when he was dating and nowhe flirts hard and heavy. In the meantime, noth-ing’s going on at home, so this is exciting.

He takes up home with the secretary, dumps his wife and she cleans him out in thesubsequent divorce. He loses all of his stuff andis living on the only thing he has left, a smallboat in the marina and Miss 20- somethingsays, “this isn’t what I had in mind, I’m leaving.”Now he has lost his business, his family, hiswife, his home, his history, everything and he’sstuck on this old boat with nothing and no one.Score one for Satan.

The mid-life crisis is real; some survive, unfortunately, many don’t. My mother andfather divorced after 28 years, guess why? I havea cousin who recently divorced after 42 years, yes, for the same reason. How do you avoid thishappening to you? The first step is realizingthat if you’re in your 60s, you’ve probably passedthis point, emphasis on probably. If you are inyour 40s to 50s and haven’t experienced any ofwhat I’ve related, be aware. If you’re in the mid-dle of a variation of what I talked about, know

who’s behind it all and get yourself together. Ifthis is all just an interesting story to you andyou’re under 40 years old, be advised, your trialis coming. The question is, how are your goingto handle it when it does?

Know your enemy and his tricks. Be pre-pared and study God’s Word. Use the Name ofJesus on your circumstances. I mean use it, lit-erally. In the natural, go see your doctor on aregular basis. Tell him or her the truth, withoutleaving anything out. They can’t help you if youaren’t honest. If you need to make somechanges in your life, make them. If you needmedication, take it. If you and/or your wife needassistance with your hormonal and libido

issues, get it. Why go through lifewith issues when it’s possible that asimple doctor’s visit can make yourrelationship whole? Eat a balancedmeal. Finally, exercise. I don’t meanheavy lifting, I mean something assimple as walking around the block.

If cosmetic surgery works foryou and you can afford it, go for it. It may helpyour self-esteem, so why not? Don’t give upwithout a fight. Another good activity for cou-ples is dancing. Not necessarily hip hop danc-ing, try ballroom dancing or stepping. Thereare many places around town where you can goand be taught a few steps. Guys, I guaranteeyou, your wife will love it. You’ve got your armsaround her, listening to smooth music; it does-n’t get any better than this, especially at yourage.

Do you have trouble hearing? Do you wearglasses? Why not get some assistance? Sayingwhat, what, over and over again is annoying, get some help. If you’ve got aches and pains, it’sa sign that you’ve lasted until middle age andyour bones and muscles need a little assistancefrom time to time. Take your prescribed painpill and get on about your business. Think of allthose who have gone before you and have nopain at all.

Bottom line, fight the good fight of faith.Stand up for your relationship. You’ve got somuch invested in each other it would be asinineto chuck it all and take a chance of starting allover again. —EIF
