Goal of the seminarThe AORecon Seminar—Principles of Shoulder Arthroplasty teaches current concepts to recognize indications, make appropriate planning, learn relevant surgical steps and potential pitfalls, including basic standards in shoulder arthroplasty.

Target participantsThis course is targeted at residents and practicing surgeons, on the point of starting to perform shoulder arthroplasty or with basic experience and surgeons starting to implement new arthroplasty techniques (eg, reverse arthroplasty).

Learning objectivesAt the end of the event, the participants will be able to:

• Perform a structured history and clinical exam of the patient (ask 4 questions: pain, weakness, limited motion, instability)

• Describe and recognize the different pathologies

• Make a correct diagnosis based on all the information

• Describe the advantages and limitations of the treatment options for the diagnosis

• Describe each treatment option including surgical technique, outcomes, and possible complications

• Discuss the treatment options and expected outcomes with the patient

AO funding sourcesUnrestricted educational grants from different sources are collected and pooled together centrally by the AO Foundation. All events are planned and scheduled by local and regional AO surgeon groups based on local needs assessments. We rely on industrial/commercial partners for in-kind support to run simulations/skills training if educationally needed.

Event organization complianceIn certain countries where AO has no office but offers educational events, the AO cooperates with third party companies to conduct local organization and logistics, as well as to communicate with participants in the local language. In these cases, the AO has put rules and guidelines in place (Letter of Secondment, AO Foundation—Principles of AO Educational Events) to ensure that this cooperation has no impact on the curricula, scientific program, or faculty selection.

General informationEvent feeThe seminar fee is EUR 200 and includes admission to the seminar as well as documentation, coffee breaks, lunches and certificate.

CertificateHard copies of the certificates are provided at the end of the day. Certificates will only be issued to participants who have attended the entire seminar.

Any technology used in the practical sessions of this event has been found suitable to serve the defined educational purposes.
