For 21-year-old Niko Colbert who lives nearby, Nathan Hale is his home away from home as he comes here almost daily to study for school, do social media, listen to favorite music, plus conduct research and read online articles and books to help him bring to fruition his dream to someday work in music management.

Nature lovers also will appreciate the Nathan Hale Library, with its beautiful courtyard with benches, birds and wind chimes, and a monarch waystation with wonderful

wildflowers to greet you at the front door. The library even has a seed library where you can check out open-pollinated, heirloom seeds to grow in your garden at home.

Plus, where else in Tulsa can you borrow a one-of-a-kind cake pan for that special occasion? Rubber ducky, SpongeBob Square Pants, Batman and Big Bird are just some of the fun, unique aluminum pans available for check out at the Nathan Hale Library.

And with two bilingual staff members who speak Spanish and one who is fluent in Hindi and Urdu, the Nathan Hale Library makes getting library service easier for those customers whose native tongue is not English.

The Nathan Hale Library is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Ongoing programming includes a weekly Build A Reader family storytime followed by stay and play for babies to 5-year-olds on Thursdays from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m., a monthly PAWS for Reading program for elementary students on the first Saturday of the month from 2 to 3 p.m., a Tween Game Night for ages 9-14 on Tuesdays from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., and the Teen Leadership Club on the first Thursday of the month from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Check the event listings in this guide for more details.

It’s no secret that Nathan Hale Library customers love and value their neighborhood library and the personal, excellent service they receive from its staff. In fact, nearly 20 years ago when a proposal was in the works to relocate library services, residents formed a successful grassroots effort to keep their neighborhood branch.

“Our customers have a strong affection for and an ownership of this branch,” said Sara Martinez, site manager. “They really appreciate this hidden gem, a friendly library right down the street!”

Accessibility to books is a critical part to reading. Located at 23rd and Sheridan, the library is within walking distance to Hoover and MacArthur elementary, and
