product and why?

Before creating my music magazine I researched possible media institutions that might distribute my product. I looked at the biggest current music magazine providers, and decided that IPC Media is the best institution to use.

The current music magazines they publish are NME and Guitar & Bass, both of which are popular magazines. Although NME is a similar style to Download, it is not aimed at the same audience as the style of music it includes is different. Therefore, IPC Media will want to publish Download as they have a gap in the market for a punk rock music magazine.

As they are already a well known publisher, they have built up a substantial client base as well as already having successful methods to distribute the magazine. As my target audience use the Internet a lot, this would be a big part of the distribution of Download magazine. I would put out adverts through the use of social networking and sharing sites such as Twitter, Facebook and YouTube, as well as TV adverts to appeal to all possible audiences.

Another important feature would be to have a website for my target audience to look at.

I researched the websites of the magazines who have similar target audiences to Download magazine to find out the conventions of a rock magazine’s website

Looking at the NME website, it has the same style as my music magazine. I think that Download could easily be a part of IPC Media’s magazines as it has a similar style to NME, but isn’t exactly the same. Due to it being aimed at a different target audience and featuring a different style of music, I think IPC Media would benefit from publishing a music magazine dedicated to punk rock music.
